After the collaboration between SY and New Fly was finalised, Yu Sichun’s workload increased. Not only did she translate books every day but she also had to go to the publishing company regarding the book’s promotions.
Most of the time, Du Jiayi would accompany her but occasionally she would have to go there by herself. When she went there on her own, she would hear a lot of gossip relating to her. It was mainly stuff about her relying on a CEO to get to where she was and stuff like that, so she didn’t pay any attention to it.
She was actually a very arrogant girl with a pretentious attitude. She didn’t go out of her way to explain anything or care about them so their words didn’t bother her.
Because only those who didn’t know their worth would care about other people’s opinions of themselves since they only saw their value through others words.
Yu Sichun was different. Other than her and Du Jiayi’s feelings, she was actually a very confident girl. She didn’t care about the view’s others had of her because he already knew her own worth in her heart.
Just like in university, many of her classmates said that she was lonely and difficult to communicate with but she didn’t change herself to cater to them.
Today, they were going to shoot a short film on the beach. Jiangcheng was just near the seaside which made the shoot much more convenient.
“Miss Yu, can you go a little further to the left? Yes, yes, that’s good.” The photographer reminded Yu Sichun where to stand whilst making several gestures. After taking multiple pictures that produced “kaka” noises, he called for a break. He asked the makeup artist to touch up Yu Sichun’s makeup and then looked at the photos he took.
These were the photos that were going to be used in the advertisement so they must be taken well enough that the public would want to see them.
He Minglang was a photographer who only got famous recently. Most of the pictures he took were of landscapes and he also admitted that he was also under great pressure this time around because he was taking pictures of a person.
Many professions had one thing in common and that would be, when they were doing their work, they would devote themselves wholeheartedly to whatever they were doing. Their expressions would become very serious just like when Yu Sichun read books and like now when she was posed for He Minglang.
He Minglang had a good temper and he was in his 40s. His wife had passed away early and he was left with his daughter. His daughter wasn’t similar to him at all probably because she was used to being pampered since young so when she spoke to Yu Sichun, she did it arrogantly.
This was really different from Yu Sichun’s hidden arrogance.
This girl’s arrogance was very unpleasant. When she was a child, it could have been passed off as being cute. After all, she was a girl and there was nothing wrong with being a bit more delicate but she was already 17 or 18 years old so it was just unsightly now.
Of course, that reason alone wasn’t enough to make Yu Sichun hate her. There was another reason. That girl would always be there when Du Jiayi goes to visit her and she would drift over to his side.
“Alright, it’s time to start. Sister Tian help Miss Yu fix her hair and prepare for the shoot.” Assistant Xiao Li came over and instructed.
“I’ll be done soon.” Sister Tian made her ponytail slightly fluffier. After looking at it, she felt that it was alright and told Yu Sichun. “Okay.”
“Thank you.” Yu Sichun smiled at Sister Tian and then walked to the shooting area.
The advertisement required Yu Sichun to run in a predetermined direction in a wedding dress. She would throw out the bouquet she was holding and then show her hand. The camera would film the side of her face next where she would brush back her hair to show her earrings and the princess crown on her hair. It was supposed to make her appear dream-like.1
Because the series of items she was wearing was from the collaboration between New Fly and SY. The ring and her earrings were a set.
The purpose of displaying them on the screen at the same time was to show that idea.
Because the wedding dress was a tight tube top, she only wore two nipple coverings inside. The clothing was tight and from the back, others could see her delicate shoulder blades and alluring collarbone as flower petals fell on them when she threw the flowers in the air.
He Minglang stared intensely at the camera with a tense heart because Yu Sichun deliberately slowed down her motions. He Minglang waited for Yu Sichun to stop moving before stopping the camera.
The staff members also relaxed after. Sister Tian and the makeup artist went to help Yu Sichun remove her makeup in the simple dressing room. Sister Tian liked Yu Sichun very much.
She wasn’t ostentatious or pretentious and such a personality was very good.
The makeup artist skilfully removed Yu Sichun’s makeup and he was curious about Yu Sichun because anyone who got to her position must have been a very clever person. He has only ever heard gossip from the mouths of other people but he didn’t want to make any quick judgments.
Moreover, looking at Yu Sichun’s attitude, she didn’t seem like someone who could have become someone’s mistress. After all, she was so… withdrawn.
If she didn’t get along with others then how could she have a romantic relationship?
Not long after the end of work, Du Jiayi came and Xiao Liu helped him open the car’s door. That day, he wore a custom-made suit from Helerand and the cufflinks he wore were bought by Yu Sichun when she went to Songcheng. The tie was also from this year’s Aristanding collection. He looked like an elite.
It reminded people of the highest level of men — a beast in human clothing and a refined bastard.
Yu Sichun watched Du Jiayi walk in but didn’t move because the makeup artist was still helping her remove her makeup. He Yao, He Minglang’s daughter who was waiting on the side, had already gone over to talk to him.
“Brother Du, you came here early today. Are you tired from work? Let’s have a meal together.”
“I came to pick Sisi up.” Du Jiayi didn’t want to talk to He Yao very much but he had a good relationship with He Minglang so he had to give him face and couldn’t just ignore his daughter.
“Miss Yu can come with us.”
Whether the child couldn’t understand human words or such, his meaning had been so clearly expressed but in turn she pretended not to hear him. She tried to go from being a guest to the master.2
Du Jiayi frowned but thought that she was still just a child so he explained himself again. “I’m going to eat with Sisi.”

During the past month of shooting these advertisements, Yu Sichun rarely ate lunch with the staff. Most of the time she went out to eat with Du Jiayi. This kind of behaviour inevitably made some people feel dissatisfied and had caused lots of gossip to spread to Yu Sichun’s ears.
But Yu Sichun didn’t care about it. What they did was their own business. It wasn’t necessary for them to share pain and happiness together for them to know her which is why she didn’t eat lunch with them.3 Those who wanted to talk bad about her would still say that she was fake when they see her eating a takeaway lunch. There was nothing that could make her lower her head to please someone else except for Du Jiayi.
“All right, let’s go.” Yu Sichun had just taken off her makeup and went over to Du Jiayi.
She was wearing the beige dress she wore this morning and looked delicate and pretty. Her hair was loose but it looked very neat and kept.
She was only twenty-four years old but she looked like the little sister next door.
“En, okay.” Du Jiayi took her hand and walked towards the car.
He Yao stared at their backs with an ugly expression. She turned around and saw two girls talking and laughing and got angry, shouting. “What are you laughing at? Go and pack up.”
======
After the shoot ended, Yu Sichun became idle again. She would fiddle with flowers and plants at home or translate books every day. She even went back to delivering food to Du Jiayi and did everything that needed to be done.
Du Jiayi and Jack made an agreement about the advertisement which was to go out to celebrate once the product was launched. He drove home after the discussion but it was only 3pm.
It was still considered quite early but thinking that he had been so busy lately, it was okay to be lazy once in a while.
The house was very quiet. This apartment was bought after they got married. The decoration inside was very simple. There were three main colours: black, white and grey. Nothing was special about it.
Yu Sichun was not very keen on buying couple things so they had individual items, such as their water cups.
Du Jiayi thought Yu Sichun had gone out. Usually, when he came home, he would see her sitting on the sofa watching TV whilst she waited for him to come back.
But today, she wasn’t there. When he went to the study, he found that Yu Sichun was lying on his desk and sleeping.
Du Jiayi was a little surprised. Usually, Yu Sichun didn’t go into the study so most of the things there were his. He approached her and saw that her left hand was on a book. Her right hand was on a sentence translated from German.
There were many alterations of the sentence. The most striking was the paragraph she deliberately marked with a red pen. The meaning was roughly——
The truth of love is that if your partner isn’t your soulmate then this so-called love between a man and a woman is just perfunctory acting done maturely because you’re just too lazy to change partners again. For the sake of feeling like you’re suitable for each other, you are willing to get along and form something known as a habit. As long as you guys have the intention to hide it, outsiders will have no clue about the truth. Most of the world live like this but a small part of the world actually doesn’t know where to look for this kind of relationship.
Reading further down, there was a paragraph written in Chinese——
People who don’t love each other can get along well too. They will appear gentle and tacit in front of others which is better than many passionate couples who want to die and live together.
His eyes were deep as he looked at Yu Sichun’s closed eyes. It was unknown what he was thinking about.
After a while, he glanced up and looked out the window from their high floor. Light poured in through the window and sprinkled on the desk. It illuminated Yu Sichun’s sleeping face and her eyelashes trembled making Du Jiayi think that she was going to wake up but a little while after, she became quiet again.
“Sisi…”
Du Jiayi’s lips rose slightly. He just muttered those words over again and again. He didn’t really know what he wanted to or what he was going to say.
He smiled and reached out to tuck Yu Sichun’s hair behind her ear as his fingertips trailed across her rosy lips.
And then he moved them to her eyebrows.” Do you love me?”
After asking that, he smiled. It was the second time he had asked Yu Sichun that question.
The first time he asked her, she was just a girl who he met on a blind date. Now, she was his wife. Their life was calm and peaceful. He enjoyed this kind of life and he liked this version of her very much.
As for love, was this love?
He didn’t know.
Before their love could develop, it had turned into family affection first. They learned tacit understanding by living together and occasional moments of tenderness appeared when their love was at the strongest.
He could see the affections she had for him but what use was it for a married couple to have such feelings?
He would care about her, would treat her well and meet her requirements because she was his wife.
For him, that kind of love was already enough. Their love didn’t need to be too strong. Their current feelings were light and shallow. It would be good if they could spend the rest of their lives in such a light way too.
There was no need for a sad and heart-moving separation or lifetime entanglements and hate most couples had.
She still looked the same as when he first saw her. She didn’t show obedience by deliberately catering to him. Occasionally, when she was dissatisfied, she would frown and when she was happy, she would show kindness to other people.
He actually knew her very well. He liked this part of her. He liked her very much.
