Noah sat down near an old run-down house, his back to the wall, head tucked in both arms. Today wasn’t a good day, this was very common for him. Being constantly hungry and knowing that the only way to satiate yourself is to do something horrible or work so hard that it wouldn’t matter if you eat afterwards, your body would still be starved. The constant violence and death. The never-ending fatigue that constantly tormented his mind and body. The thought of knowing that no matter what you did nothing would change. This combined with the thousands of other things made life bleak for Noah.

But today something much worse had happened, he was familiar with it but it hadn’t ever left his mind so numb before. All he could do was sit there hiding, isolated from the world. How long had it been? Hours? but the flow of time was something Noah wasn’t aware of. Things were going so well until they found out. Why did they have to kill them all, they could have made them work harder or… or… it didn’t matter did it.

They had done something unforgivable so there was only one outcome, Death. But why did they let him live? Perhaps he knew, perhaps he realized he was doing exactly what they wanted. This was the exact reason he was left alive.

Noah was alive but felt dead, like a soul trapped in a corpse. No amount of crying would fix this. Perhaps if he had died with everyone… Yes, death was the only way out of this pain. He couldn’t continue living, not like this. It was over… it always had been. Noah was simply born in the wrong place. Maybe in his next life, he would be the child of someone important and have a loving family. Somehow Noah found strength somewhere deep within, he knew what he needed to do and this gave him determination and strength. He wasn’t going to just sit and let the pain wilt him, no the pain was a good thing. It reminded him that he was alive but now that it was gone from the numbness. He felt dead already.

The numbness was supposed to be a good thing but it only made him feel less like a human and more like a corpse. So he lifted his head, ready to do what he should have done hours ago. Strangely as Noah lifted his head, he saw a man standing in front of him. Dark-skinned, the man wore a luxurious suit. He held an umbrella to protect himself from the hot sun, this made it hard to see his face, not that Noah bothered.

“I have a gift for you.” The man spoke, his voice was unique, very cold compared to most. Noah didn’t say anything in response. He simply didn’t care, nothing the man could give would change anything at this point.

“I can’t do anything for you. In fact, I won’t help you because I simply don’t feel like it. This does put a bad taste in my mouth though so I’ll give you something to lighten my soul.”

Noah heard what the man said but he didn’t feel any kind of resentment towards him because what he said was true. If people cared then the world would be a good place where bad things didn't happen,  a world where people wouldn’t have to go through what he did. People are selfish and only care about things that affected them so they ignore all the bad things happening to others. Hence why Noah didn’t feel any kind of bitterness toward this man and his words.

The man pulled something out of his back pocket. Noah was expecting money seeing how rich the man dressed. He was going to throw it in his face if he really tried giving him money. The money wouldn’t do anything for Noah at this point. It wouldn’t change the fact that he had no reason to live.

“Here, I can’t help you and you can’t expect anyone else to help you. There are some people out there who care enough to try but I’m not one of them and a majority of people aren’t. So take this and help yourself. Do whatever you want with it.” The man smiled before turning around and leaving. The man had given Noah a knife.

Noah held the knife in his hand, it was a firm knife. Sharp, deadly yet majestic at the same time. It had glyphs that seemed to spiral endlessly on the handle. Noah didn’t know what the glyphs meant but he didn’t care.

“Help yourself.” the words kept repeating themselves in his head. Why would he when he could just end it here? He could easily slit his throat with the knife but those words kept repeating themselves and he felt that it was wrong to end it here. Wouldn’t killing himself help him? It would end his misery.

It would end this life that was destined to be horrible from the very beginning but Noah couldn’t do it. He didn’t know why he couldn’t but he knew he wouldn’t be able to do it even if he tried. Although Noah was numb, although he couldn’t feel anything, somewhere deep inside him something had started to form. It was the will to live. This feeling was new and unfamiliar but he held onto it. It was the only thing he had left along with this knife, the first gift he had ever received from someone. Noah hulled himself to his feet. He was weak but he felt strong. He was exhausted but he had never felt so alert and full of energy. He would help himself, he would leave this place and live the life he had always dreamed of. He had things that needed to be done, things that needed to be handled. Noah had determination and he also had a knife. He was going to use both to destroy so that his dreams may be fulfilled.
