Yuuto lay motionless on the ground, his eyes closed tightly, his brow furrowed in pain.

His chest rose and fell slowly as he breathed, barely able to move, and his body tense.

His muscles were tight, and he was unable to turn or even twitch his limbs. He had given up trying to fight the pain and exhaustion that kept him bound to the ground.

He was confused, “Fuck, was that some kind of skill?”

“I would’ve died if they hadn’t retreated...” Yuuto thought to himself.

Yuuto willed his body to move, but his body was still unable to move. He could feel his body trembling, and his heart was pounding. He felt like he was going to pass out.

“They got us alright... that broad, she knew my weakness.” The monster bellowed in rage.

“Weakness? What are you talking about?” Yuuto asked.

“Light and sound. That is our kryptonite! I am bound to your delicate peripheral nervous system, and if my weakness is taken advantage of, you will be temporarily crippled, and I will be left powerless to help you” The malicious voice resonated from the depths of his being.

Yuuto was stunned, “I see. So that’s why...”

“And, Is there a way to circumvent that weakness?” Yuuto asked.

The monster inside of him shook his head, “No, it’s something we can’t avoid.”

Yuuto snarled, “Unless we kill the caster of the light first.”

“That’s right. The only way is to behead the caster.” The monster uttered with its voice filled with malevolence.

“I should’ve done THAT from the start... I tried to play safe, and look where it got me...” Yuuto said in a cold voice.

“What do you- oh...” The monster inside of him replied.

Who am I kidding?

The reason I failed wasn’t because of the slime’s weakness. It’s because I tried to play safe, and look where it got me.

If only I had used the system properly and leveled up like that group, I wouldn’t have been in this situation.

“This cannot go on. I must grind more EXP.”

“Are you sure about this? It will be a declaration of war against the world.” The monster inside of him asked.

Deep inside, was I trying to stall for time? So that I wouldn’t have to kill innocent people? I called the other me a coward, but aren’t I exactly like him?

Yuuto laughed and slowly got up.

“Yes.” His icy and emotionless response echoed across the cave. His apathy was more menacing than any anger could ever be.

His body quakes with every step as if his muscles can barely support the weight of his body.

His eyes dart around the cave, searching and calculating his next move.

He takes small steps toward the exit until he reaches the exit.

“Irene, are you there?” Yuuto called out.

“Yes, I’m here.” Irene’s voice replied.

“Let’s go,” Yuuto said as he started walking back into the cave.

Irene nodded, her long blonde hair swaying with the movement.

They walked for a while and talked about what just happened until they both reached the dead end, or at least what should’ve been a dead end.

There is an eerie stillness in the air.

They continued walking until they reached a dead end, or what should have been a dead end.

But what was there was a massive hole, one that was big enough for a person to fit through.

Yuuto and Irene walked until they could reach the Orc Settlement.

The smell of death and decay was overwhelming. It was a pungent mixture of iron and decomposing flesh that made one want to gag.

The rotting bodies of orcs lay strewn across the floor, their limbs twisted in grotesque poses. Flies buzzed around the corpses, feasting on their decaying corpses.

Irene’s eyes widened in horror as she looked around the Orc Settlement.

Her face was pale with fear as she took in the gruesome scene before her.

Yuuto, on the other hand, had a blank expression on his face, and his eyes were cold and emotionless.

His posture was stiff and unyielding as he observed the carnage before him.

He had already prepared himself, and he had done exactly done same to the goblin village.

Odin’s Sight!

“Nothing but dead bodies everywhere...” Yuuto muttered.

No, there’s still someone breathing!

Yuuto moved quickly, his feet pounding the earth beneath him as he ran towards the source of the slight sound of breathing.

He saw a familiar-looking orc lying on the ground. It was the leader of the settlement, from what he could tell. It was barely alive, its breath shallow, and its movements slow and labored.

The orc was in a state of utter despair and pain; his body was mangled and appeared lifeless, his eyes were swollen and bloodshot, his skin charred from flames and barely clinging to his bones.

His arms and legs were completely severed.

He was in a state that should, by all means, have been fatal. Yet, despite his injuries, he smiled weakly at Yuuto, “I... knew... you’d... come...”

The orc’s face contorted in pain as he forced out every word, “North... west... hidden... cave... the... key... in... my... stomach...”

The dying orc’s face twisted into a grisly smile as he gasped out his last words, “Take... care... of... my... wife... and... the... survivors...”

Its body shuddered, and an eerie stillness draped over him as if the very breath of life had been sucked from him. He lay there, a twisted, grimacing corpse.

Tendrils began to form on Yuuto’s back. They slowly started to grow and began to hover above the dead orc.

“I’m sorry, I arrived a little too late.” Yuuto apologized with a heavy heart.

The tendrils began to form mouths as Yuuto continued speaking, “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of them.”

Yuuto’s heart burned with rage as he uttered the words, “I won’t let your sorrow rot on this foreign world.”

He clenched his fists tightly, his knuckles whitening with the pressure, “I will always be with you; You can rest within me.”

“Farewell, friend.” Yuuto’s voice was full of sorrow as he said his parting words to the monster.

The orc spasmed for a few moments before it was consumed by the writhing tendrils that seeped out from Yuuto’s body.

They didn’t know each other that well. They only met a few days ago. Yuuto didn’t even know his name.

But, he was a good person. A shame I’ve never tried to talk to him or get to know him better.

The tendrils slowly disappeared, and Yuuto opened his eyes. The dead orc was gone, and in its place was a small crystal.

One of the tendrils brought a crystal to Yuuto’s hand.

He smiled, “Time to find that hidden cave...”

Irene’s gaze is filled with fear as she looks at Yuuto’s smile, the corners of his mouth quirked up, but his eyes are hollow and empty.

His usually bright, expressive eyes are dark and vacant, as if life had been drained out of them. The look is both sorrowful and haunting.

Yuuto walked away, and Irene followed him.

He reached the location, and the crystal glowed as the corner opened.

The crystal’s light illuminated the corner and revealed the entrance to the cave. Inside was an artificial cave. It was small, but the walls of the cave were seamless as if carved by hand.

The harsh light revealed several young orcs, the poacher girl, and the orc leader’s wife, whose eyes were wide and scared.
