[SOURCE] Good morning, Johnson! You can connect to your salon. Your team should arrive shortly.

[Johnson] connect:salon_t17

       You are in salon_t17

[Johnson] cmd:whoisco

Johnson and Rose are in salon_t17

[Johnson] Hello, Rose.

[Rose] Hello, Johnson.

[Johnson] How was yesterday?

[Rose] Stressful. I got late.

[Rose] I'll lose my present job before "securing" this one since everyone takes their sweet time to talk about useless shit.

[Rose] Thankfully, my questionnaire was easy!

[Johnson] I'm sure it was the point.

[Rose] What?

[Johnson] As I said, I did a recruitment like that. They probably choose 9 am because it's the worst, the hour we'll be the most likely to hurry things up. I'm also pretty damn certain our team was everything but random. Heather, you, me, and Samuel? Disadvantageous, at best.

[Rose] Interesting theory. Are you some kind of detective in your free time?

[Johnson] I'm unemployed. All of my time is free.

[Rose] Apologies.

[Rose] What makes you think you are correct?

[Johnson] Firstly, we asked far too few questions to each other. We took a quick look at our questionnaires and immediately thought: "it's so easy I can do it by myself!" Since you and Samuel were on the clock, everybody rushed to the finish line.

[Rose] This old fart seemed to be many things, except in a hurry!

[Johnson] Really? He left maybe 30 seconds after you did.

[Rose] Well... okay, if you say so. Continue! I'm curious now.

[Johnson] Lastly, our team was not efficient. Starting with Samuel, I feel he's quite the patronizing guy.

[Rose] Good guess! He called me, a cop mother of two, "girl"!

[Johnson] He's not trustworthy.

[Rose] Bold accusation. Care to elaborate?

[Johnson] Just before your arrival, he complained about the complexity of our hiring procedure as if it was a surprise. It's common in big companies.

[Rose] Yes, and?

[Johnson] You don't remember? He openly admitted to having sent his children to corporation-sponsored schools. A guy who put his kids in a corporate academy does not know what their recruitment methods are? Bullshit.

[Rose] Very circumstantial, but I'll keep it in mind.

[Rose] And our good Heather, anything to say about her?

[Rose] Maybe later.

[Johnson] Yeah.

[Theresa] Hello!

[Rose] Hello.

[Johnson] Hello, Theresa.

[Theresa] Did I interrupt something?

[Johnson] No! Nothing important. We were speaking about yesterday's assignment.

[Theresa] You two were together? Nice! I was with Victor, a difficult man.

[Rose] That's the flowery way to describe a prick?

[Theresa] You said it, not me!

[Theresa] I hope today's group will be less annoying!

[SOURCE] Your team is now complete. You can begin when you want!

[Theresa] Perfect! There are not too many of us!

[Xiao] Nice to see you too, Theresa.

[Theresa] Oh, sorry! Hello!

[Johnson] Hello.

[Rose] Hello.

[Xiao] Can we work quick? I do not have much time.

[Rose] Someone who wants to get to the point? Good!

[Johnson] You read your doc? What is it? Same for Rose and Theresa.

[Xiao] Some map of a park.

[Rose] Dogs pictures.

[Theresa] The report of a veterinary surgeon. For an injured dog.

[Johnson] A spreadsheet in three columns and two hundred rows. Names, dates, and coordinates.

You are reading story On the edge of a Blue Line at novel35.com

[Rose] What kind of names?

[Johnson] Ginger, Bailey, Rocky, Charlie, etc.

[Rose] Dog names. I start to understand where they are going with that.

[Theresa] Already?

[Xiao] It's not hard, sweety! But why a map?

[Johnson] Which park?

[Xiao] Ferris Lake Wild Forest.

[Johnson] Let me check something.

[Rose] Theresa, what injuries your dog had?

[Theresa] Very severe! Poor doggo, they had to use multiple tools usually reserved for humans. Highly expensive, it seems.

[Xiao] It's the puppy of a wealthy lady?

[Theresa] I don't think so. It's a detailed report, but not in a "we want to avoid lawsuit" way, more of a "what happened?" way.

[Johnson] Okay! I can confirm that every coordinate is within Ferris Lake Wild Forest.

[Rose] I see, now. It's a search party. The coordinates certainly show where their dogs found traces of what they were looking for.

[Xiao] That's why they gave us a map!

[Johnson] You want my coordinates?

[Xiao] No, dear! I'm not authorized to "surf" with this computer.

[Johnson] Scarlet, can you send Xiao's map to my mailbox?

[SCARLET] Absolutely! I can forward a document. Do you want that, Xiao?

[Xiao] Sure.

[SCARLET] Done!

[Johnson] Let me work on that a little.

[Rose] What is the name of your dog, Theresa?

[Theresa] There is none, just a description: Golden Retriever, English cream, female.

[Rose] Tina. There are names written on my pictures. Only one is a Golden Retriever.

[Johnson] Rose, how many dogs do you have, exactly?

[Rose] Eleven.

[Johnson] Bastards.

[Theresa] What?

[Johnson] I have twenty-two on my side. How much do you bet that half of them are false?

[Rose] Rodrigo, Tina, Bailey, Taylor, Max, Watson, Casper, Tucker, Donald, Likka, and Kobe. Mine.

[Johnson] Thanks!

[Xiao] If it's a search-and-rescue dog, why expend so much money?

[Rose] Because it's a sniffer dog. They can sometimes be witnesses in court, and this one obviously came into contact with something. It's not the whole reason, in my humble opinion. Believe it or not, it happened in the NYPD recently. K-9s are poorly insured by departments (when they are). Our guys pooled their efforts to get the animal treated. He was one of us, after all.

[Xiao] I stand corrected.

[Xiao] On that note, I have to go.

       Xiao left salon_t17

[Rose] Damn, not even a goodbye?

[Theresa] Last time she left in the middle of an argument.

[Johnson] I checked, and whatever they were searching for moved toward a city, Stratford.

[Rose] Cool.

[Rose] Wait, Stratford? It reminds me of an old story.

[Rose] Ten years ago, a local town was burned to the ground. No survivors.

[Johnson] All my dates are from ten years ago.

[Rose] In April?

[Johnson] March. The last day of their search was the 12, with Tina.

[Rose] Seriously? Whoah! I had a colleague who was fascinated by this. An entire village leveled with sceneries out of a war movie. Craters, trenches, burnt-out buildings. One of the biggest mysteries of the 21st century. Conspiracy theorists are crazy about it.

[Theresa] 12 March? It's when my dog was injured, you think? There is no time in my report. It's blank.

[Rose] That's unusual.

[Rose] Our recruiter crafted a cute mystery for us, but I need to go now. Goodbye to you two!

[Theresa] Goodbye!

[Johnson] Goodbye.

       Rose left salon_t17

[Theresa] I'll have to leave too.

[Theresa] Do you think these docs are real? I mean, truly real. My mom told me that it's fabricated, and what they mean by "real" is "real in context".

[Theresa] But can they actually be true?

[Johnson] Why do you want to know?

[Theresa] My dog died. That poor girl was mutilated beyond recognition. It's disturbing and sad.

[Johnson] Impossible to say for sure. I personally believe that it is made up.

[Theresa] Good! I am a relieved. Goodbye, Johnson.

[Johnson] Goodbye, Theresa.

       Theresa left salon_t17

[Johnson] :q!
