Chapter 117: Fracture Of Gloom IV

.................

It thundered upon the world with dark cracks in space, and it rained inky feathers, each sharper and more dangerous than thousands of swords.

Doflamingo found himself at the center of it all, his expression speaking of anxiousness, not something he ever expected himself to feel.

The grimace on his face failed to show the ongoing battle in his mind, trying to figure out just what the fuck is happening... He was certain that he is in the midst of a conspiracy, one he didn't see coming.

Before him stood one of the Pantheon Gods, he was certain. He firmly believes Yovan to be Hades, making him realize something.

"You... You want to become one of the Warlords of the Sea?" Doflamingo questioned, "You want the Marines to believe the Pantheon is your eternal enemy for killing one of the Strangers... And killing me will leave an empty spot among the Warlords."

"Kind of," Yovan responded emotionlessly.

Their battle was peculiar with numerous inky feathers mixing with barely visible inky strings, each stopping the other from reaching the two while also trying to reach the enemy.

The strings were hardened with Haki, and were fully under Doflamingo's control, the doing of his Paramecia Devil Fruit which allows him to create and control strings.

His strings are incredibly durable and razor-sharp, making them able to cut, pierce, block, bind, or bash his opponents. The strings are also extremely thin, and some may even be invisible, making it almost impossible to notice and avoid them.

However, none of those qualities served him well against the numerous feathers. The feathers were also hardened with Haki, and there were more feathers than there were strings.

Most notably, the feathers were dangerous, way more dangerous than his strings as they were vibrating, producing thunderous shockwaves which leave dark cracks behind.

The collusion of the feathers and strings was the cause of the thunder, and each time, it leaves behind fractures with almost all of the strings destroyed... The same couldn't be said for the feathers however.

"Kind of?" Doflamingo still kept his composure despite having to push himself much more than Yovan, "I don't get it. Wait... The paintings?" His eyes finally widened in shock and disbelief.

"Dealing with you would've been troublesome if I didn't act quickly," Yovan noted, his words pretty much signaling a confirmation of Doflamingo's assumption.

Even amidst their conversation, the other more personal side of the battle was still ongoing as air slashes moved about, emerald fiery ones from Yovan and white misty ones released by a simple swipe from Doflamingo's legs.

"That's... Not possible. I refuse to believe you saw so far into the future," Doflamingo's face was grim as he continued, "The Marines would believe you came here for your paintings, but I Doflamingo being I saw that coming and set you up... No, set the don up."

"A genius, truly," Yovan remarked, "Thank you for being such a genius and troublemaker. The Marines and the World Government would doubt the story otherwise."

"They will doubt it," Doflamingo pointed out, "I don't have to think much about it to seek many inconsistencies... Such as the Pantheon destroying the Colosseum and what lies beneath it... It's very valuable as you might've figured out already."

"Yahaha yahahahaha!" Yovan's loud laughter irked Doflamingo, especially seeing the amusement in his golden eye, "You're mistaken for the Pantheon didn't only come here for the Don... No, we came here to get rid of you not just because of my goal of becoming a Warlord."

"Then what?" Doflamingo asked.

"The Underworld... You have the most influence over the Underworld," Yovan pointed out with a grin, finding it difficult to hide the pridefulness in himself.

"..." Doflamingo remained silent, taking his time in comprehending what he had just heard, "The Pantheon is trying to take over the Underworld?" He was baffled because, "Fufufufuffffu, It's almost too obvious!"

He realized it there and then... Yovan is one of the Pantheon. The Fall Massacre resulted in the death of two of the Emperors of the Underworld, meaning the Pantheon's goal of taking over the Underworld must stretch far back into the past.

Then there was the Don, Bege Capone' taking a seat as one of the Emperors of the Underworld, but he is one of the Strangers, so he must've been preparing some comfy seats for the arrival of the Pantheon in the future.

The Don must still be alive, something already obvious, but everyone would believe him to be dead, thus largely taking suspicion off Yovan.

There is also the incident of Ares, one of the Pantheon Gods killing one of the Underworld Emperors, but even Doflamingo himself first assumed it to be a wish, the system the Pantheon established to make miracles come true for a price.

The Underworld Emperors have many many enemies, so Doflamingo didn't see it odd at all for someone to wish for the death of one, but what if the wish system was actually just a front? What if the Pantheon's real goal was always taking control over the Underworld, and doing so discreetly?

If so, they've succeeded wonderfully to the point that there will be little to no suspicion of Yovan and the Pantheon being closely connected.

In fact, they were enemies, especially as the Marines would surely come to the conclusion that the Pantheon manipulated the two into fighting each other because...

"And thank you... For Viola, she's lovely, and I'm sure she will be of utmost help to my survival." Yovan said as he walked up to Doflamingo.

"So she is the history writer, huh?" Every conspiracy and every war needs a history writer, someone who would write history however they wish.

Say for example, if Viola were to tell the Marines that Hades' last words before vanishing were something like 'Thank you for assistance, Doflamingo.'

Now that would change things a lot. That would make Yovan's battle with Doflamingo much more logical. It isn't only for the paintings, but also for Doflamingo potentially working with the Pantheon.

The history writer can then change other things up to fit the narrative, and no force is innocent from meddling with history.

"Fufufufu fufufufu, well played well played," Doflamingo started clapping, his laughter would've spread far and wide if not for the Veil Of Darkness, "I'm curious though, what does the Pantheon seek? Is it control?"

"Survival," Yovan responded before lightly tapping the ground, leaving behind a shockwave that created a deep crater.

Almost instantly, he was before Doflamingo, swinging his blade at him, but just like before, his attack was met with a barrier of black strings that Yovan was barely able to cut through.

Doflamingo, however, had already leaped backward, "The basis of the Pantheon's plans is you being able to defeat me... A huge mistake! In fact, let me help you!!"

Such are the ways of kings, those who are capable of using conquerors' Haki. Their ego, pride, or will knows no bounds, "Torikago!!!!!" He used his ultimate technique to do something incomprehensible.

He exuded immense amounts of strings from the center of his palms, shooting high into the sky as a concentrated beam.

When high enough, before reaching the Veil Of Darkness, they diverged to rain down to all sides in an umbrella-like fashion to cover a large area, creating a gargantuan, razor-sharp wire-domed force field, slicing absolutely everything that passes through it.

It acted as a second barrier much to the surprise of even Yovan, "Did you think I would escape? Fufuffufuf, only one of us will leave these barriers today, and it is not going to be me!"

Perhaps his pride didn't allow him to retreat, or he realized that Yovan wouldn't allow him to escape, whatever it is, he wasn't done just yet as he knelt on the ground, a barrier spreading from him to protect him from harm.

"Awakening: Ever White," He murmured as touched the ground with his hands before turning a vast amount of the surrounding area into strings, numerous strings, ground, and buildings, all turned into strings.

"You know about my Awakening? I guess it would be strange not to know," Yovan raised a brow as he noted.

His awakening ability was known throughout the world, the Marines especially made sure everyone knows just to put him at a disadvantage in everything he does.

That's why Doflamingo made sure not a single feather remains within his small barrier before releasing his Awakening.

"Awakening: Scatter," Yovan murmured, scattering into feathers. This was a battle of darkness and light... The white strings against the darkest of feathers.
