Chapter 2: Limitless II
.................
His focus on it seemed to trigger it even if it was unintentional on his part, the dot still reacted, developing into some kind of weird panel.
[System: Limitless]
[Name: Yovan Night]
[Age: 22/69]
[Physique: 6/∞]
[Endurance: 8/∞]
[Agility: 7/∞]
[Willpower: 11/∞]
[Mind: 9/∞]
[Countdown]
"Huh??" This Hallucination was certainly unique.
His first reaction was wonder, followed closely by confusion, "I don't even play that many games. This definitely looks like something straight out of an RPG, but why am I hallucinating about this? Am I really not hallucinating?"
Accepting something bizarre like this as anything but hallucination is a first step taken toward insanity.
He knows firsthand just how real hallucinations appear in the moment, they look and feel real, just waiting for you to dive into their embrace and accept them.
Next thing you know, your body will be found somewhere deep in the forest, somehow dead by your own hands... Strike that, your body will never get found, that's just how it goes.
Despite his doubts, Yovan still observed the panel silently, looking through every bit of information on it.
"Yeah, I'm definitely hallucinating. Why else would it say that my lifespan is sixty-nine? That's such a unique number that it kinda makes sense why it's on the panel. It means a lot to me... No, to everyone."
He noted another strange thing, "The system's name is limitless. There are infinite symbols, but there isn't one in my life span.
There is nothing here that I don't already know, I can make assumptions about my physique and so on. There is also the countdown."
Yovan paid attention to the last option, this one however was different because as he focused on it, it reacted twisting into the number [8745].
"Hmm, what does it mean? The option was countdown which likely means that this number is the countdown though it's not changing... Unless."
Yovan narrowed his eyes and kept eyeing the number for more than a minute.
"Still no change, so it's not in minutes... Well, no need to think about it for so long, I will just have to see if it changes in an hour or a day."
He didn't dwell on the panel for long. He was becoming certain that he was not hallucinating, but there are still doubts. What matters for him most now was preparations.
He brought the last large branch he left aside and used the sharp stone to carve its tip, trying to make a spear.
Survival comes first, not illusionary hopes because that led to many people's death in the past, and he considers the panel to be worse, a man's delusion.
Next came the carving of a few small branches into wood knives. They aren't too sharp, but they'll do for now until he can carve a rock into a knife which takes a long time.
He only stopped when he noticed the fire going out. His source of warmth and light fading naturally forced him to go back into the tight shelter lest he freezes to death, it was getting too cold after all.
The crescent moon was also not doing much as a source of light. Speaking of which, Yovan didn't really notice much difference from it than the usual moon though it seems bigger?
He has to wait for the full moon for a more accurate assessment.
Yovan used another palm tree frond to close the entrance and lied down on the bed of bushes he prepared beforehand.

'Now I can focus more on Limitless.' Preparing tools of survival gave him a bit of peace of mind, allowing him to think about his situation.
I was in Uk, deep in the woods. Now, I'm in the middle of the ocean on an Island. I remember sleeping then I woke up here... This doesn't feel like a hallucination.
'I guess I should put a bit of logic aside and think of another possibility... Have I been transmigrated? Is this a simulation? Am I in the same world or a different one entirely?'
He had read such stories before. Sitting before a campfire and reading is one of his favorite things to do, a cozy experience.
He had read books, novels, and even mangas though he rarely watches much of anything. That's just not something applicable in the woods while reading books and the such doesn't require any electronics.
"I guess I just need some more testing, but for now, I have to rest." He wasn't that tired, but he have to wake up by dawn.
There isn't much he can do under the darkness of the night, but in light we see, understand, and achieve.
Over the years, Yovan has grown something akin to a biological clock, an evolution of sorts because the nature of woods required so, especially with the kind of forests he usually ventures into.
He woke up naturally at dawn, rubbing his eyes with a yawn, clarity returning to his as he saw the very faint light slipping through the shelter, but feeling no warmth.
Yovan took a deep breath, getting rid of his sleepiness entirely and taking off his shirt, leaving it in the shelter.
The dot hovering before him refreshed his memory a bit, but he still looked through the symbols he had written on the sand.
Before he went out, however, he remembered something important... His earrings, one on each ear, both different from each other.
He took them off, and looked at them for a while with reminiscence, especially focusing on the one that was on his left ear.
The earrings were both stud type, inky black with a symbol on each of them. The one on the left had what looked like the symbol of the moon, finely crafted while the one to the right had a vague symbol of wings.
"Dad, don't worry, I'll definitely not follow in your footsteps..." A slight smile surfaced on his face, going into a daze for a minute or so.
Alas, he had his life to preserve, so he got his composure back together and hid the earrings beneath the bushes, in the sand.
He went out with the wooden spear in his hand and the wooden knives in his pockets. He walked closer to the shore before starting to make a symbol on the sand, a very large symbol in the shape of 'SOS'.
Yovan then drank a bit of coconut milk, scraping a bit of its meat to eat as well. He took his time until the light of dawn spreads more, giving him a clearer vision.
"Day 2, it's extremely unlikely for this to be a hallucination..." Yovan noted to himself before touring the Island again.
This time, he was more meticulous, looking through every inch and cranny of it. He wasn't in as much of a hurry as he was yesterday.
Amidst his search, he got a few palm fronds and cut them into thin parts before tying them into several ropes.
He then looked around for the largest palm frond in the vicinity and combined it with the ropes to create a backpack of sorts.
His goal was to collect anything that seem useful, but mainly to collect all the fallen coconuts and bananas. He took the ones that will go south instead of taking the ones still in their mother's embrace, living, and well.
Plans were already starting to form in his mind. How to survive for at least a month, observing if someone passes nearby, if not, then he needs to make a strong enough raft to handle the raging waves.
"Well well well, what do we have here? Like... Hahahahaha," Yovan burst out laughing, falling on the sand, unable to hold it back.
It took a while to get his wits back, "Perhaps I'm hallucinating. Perhaps I'm in a simulation. Perhaps I'm in some kind of extremely lucid dream. However, I will believe this is reality for now until proven otherwise."
And that Yovan did, becoming a bit more cautious. The thing that changed his mind was an odd fruit. He didn't pay much attention to it for now, he just hid it somewhere on the Island.
"My plans all need... No, have to change..." He decided to start experimenting with Limitless, but for now, he wants to go hunting.
And thus came one of the reasons why didn't plan to use himself as a guinea pig for the fruit.
He made his way into the water, not going too deep. He walked slowly and stopped at times with his spear ready, trying many times until he finally nailed a fish in the head.
He can not waste the natural resources on the Island, especially the coconuts because they're the most valuable thing he can see so far, they're his source of water after all.
"It's getting hot..." Yovan murmured after placing the fish in a small pool in the middle of rocks, letting it live for now in its small little prison.
"Limitless..."
