Chapter 26: Feathers Of Desperation

.................

If that was a possibility, Yovan didn't take it. No, his goal changed. There was a fire in his eyes, and it wasn't that of survival.

"Boy, aren't you the unluckiest person I've ever seen?" Boo, remarked as he started approaching Yovan. The circumstances worked in his favor, and he plans to take full advantage of that.

Yovan frowned, his expression only becoming stranger by the second, "Is this necessary?"

"I'm a pirate. It isn't about you, but about my reputation if I don't avenge one of my own. I would've gladly accepted you in my fleet if you didn't go too far." Boo seemed to be quite level-headed, remaining calm despite the circumstances.

Yovan nodded in resignation before picking up his spear. He also in turn started approaching the colossal orange-haired guy.

Yovan was quite tall sure. He was even becoming taller due to Limitless, almost reaching two meters in height. Boo, on the other hand, was a special case, almost reaching three meters.

The Axe boo brought out was just as colossal as himself, fitting in his hand perfectly. He had another axe on his person besides the one he threw, but he didn't seem interested in using it.

Boo remained very cautious because he could see it in Yovan's eyes. He had yet to give up despite the absurd disparity between him and his opponent.

Boo more than most knows his strength, and despite being weaker than his brother and especially his father, he was still extremely strong, not a mountain climbable by a non-Haki user.

Yet despite his wariness, Yovan's move still surprised him. The spear in Yovan's hand was poised in Boo's direction as he walked, and without the latter having to do anything, a sharp burst of air erupted from it in the shape of a spear.

The element of surprise was still not enough for Boo as he acted by instinct, tapping the ground to leap out of the attack, escaping with only a small cut to the side of his belly.

Yovan really wanted to do a follow-up, to truly focus his force on the spear and show the full extent of his Airflow Art. However, Boo reacted a bit too fast, spinning mid-air to lung his axe at Yovan.

If turning into his crow form wasn't instant, Yovan's death would've been a certainty. The crow's small size allowed him to evade the axe unscathed.

In fact, that's what Yovan was relying on, the fact that he can transform into his crow form instantly.

If the attack was gonna hit his stomach for example, the crow can just appear in his leg area, leaving behind a burst of dark feathers, masking his presence.

Yovan turned to his human form only to turn back again. He didn't have time to do anything because Boo was simply too fast for him, appearing before him with a swing of an axe.

Even Yovan's spear could only lay on the ground motionless along with the crow's dark feathers... Feathers of desperation.

Come to think of it, the burst of feathers wasn't something Yovan could do before, but well, it certainly helped because he really should be dead against someone so much faster than him.

His saving grace was his Devil fruit... Not for long though as Boo suddenly stopped and let go of his axe with a trace of annoyance, "So be it."

He clenched his hands into a punch, squeezing them tightly as Yovan watched from afar, seeming tense. Boo took a deep breath as he murmured, "Hasshoken!!"

Both of his punches fell to the ground with so much force it shock the surroundings. Even Yovan who retreated far away felt the vibrations in the ground followed by the rubbles flying everywhere.

His vision was obscured for a single second, and he suddenly found Boo above him with a punch on the brink of touching his face, certain death, "Die!"

Boo knew it wasn't that easy. The most he saw of Yovan's powers, the more troublesome it seemed just like how the latter twisted into a crow and moved towards him, not the opposite.

Boo reacted quickly, following up with another punch with his other hand as Yovan also readied a punch, seemingly ignoring Boo's deadly attack, mainly because the latter halted his punch.

The advancement in Yovan's Airflow art allowed him to perform the action of manifesting a deadly air con right before his punch... The impact of which did nothing.

In fact, the opposite happened. Yovan's hand literally broke, and his bones shattered.

A black spot appeared on Boo's chest, the area Yovan attacked. It's what protected him, and exactly what Yovan feared, Busoshoku Haki.

It's a form of Haki that allows the user to use their own spiritual energy to create, in essence, an invisible armor around themself, providing incredible offensive and defensive capabilities.

But that wasn't what really shattered Yovan's hand. No, it was the Chinjao family's Martial Art, Hasshoken. It is a martial art that allows the user to produce powerful shockwaves.

Boo allowed Yovan to hit him knowing that if he tried to hit back, the latter might slip away in his crow form like the rat he is. He used the shockwave through his chest to break someone who is many times weaker than him.

A shockwave from his chest against someone at his level would barely do anything, but Yovan's physical strength was many times lower than Boo, thus why he had to bite his lips to hold back the pain.

Boo, however, had to groan in pain, his eyes going white for a moment, but not because of Yovan's attack. No, it was because of the explosion that also threw Yovan away.

The heart of the explosion, however, was Boo's back. The poor thing had to suffer the brunt of tens of cannonballs.

Opposing ships were supposed to be taken care of by Boo's crew. That's why they were circling around the Island, so Boo didn't expect that at all. The cannonballs' source was within the Island, Capone Bege.

From his chest emerged the cannonballs, tiny cannonballs which turned to their original size once they left his vicinity, the result of his Devil Fruit.

Yovan had faith and hope that someone as intelligent as Bege will understand what he was insinuating.

The moment he decided the fight has to happen. The moment his feathers spread around to paint a picture for Bege, all hope fell on the latter, and he did deliver.

Yovan's sorry state didn't stop him from murmuring the words, "Feathers of Darkness!"

His newest move, and the result of his Devil Fruit mastery surpassing 300. It was the reason why he could reconstruct his left wing a while ago.

It's the ability also can create and control dark feathers from their body, only when in his crow form however, so Yovan transformed after he spoke and waved his wings.

By this point, the battlefield was dense with feathers, the result of continuously turning into his beast form. Each and every dark feather moved according to his wishes, taking advantage of Boo's stunned state.

The feathers of Yovan's desperation washed through the ground surrounding Boo before flying him to the sky, and just as Boo regained consciousness, the crow appeared before him quickly twisting into Yovan's human form.

A kick sending Boo flying left Yovan's right leg broken with just how much force he put in there. He again transformed and followed after Boo, and another kick left his other leg completely broken because this time, Boo used Hasshoken against him.

And for some reason, only then did Yovan use the feathers of desperation to bring Boo down.

His attacks did nothing to the monster. Hell, the cannonballs would've done nothing if Yovan didn't sacrifice his hand to focus Boo's Haki on him, leaving his back defenseless.

But Yovan's goal wasn't to harm him himself. No, he allowed the active Volcano to do the job as Boo fell right where Yovan wanted him to, and the latter was relying on the knowledge that Boo doesn't know Geppo.

The technique that could save him and allow him to jump off the air, thus allowing him to basically move through the air wasn't something he knows because he would've certainly used it to follow Yovan into the sky before.

Afterward, without a word to Bege, Yovan flew into the distance. He knew that things might go very wrong, and he knew he wouldn't be able to fly for long as his limit is only a little bit more than dozen minutes.

So he prepared a small boat in the distance. The small crow fell directly on the body, almost instantly turning into Yovan... A peculiar Yovan.

The reason why he didn't want to use the Feathers of Desperation was exactly because it would lead to his current state.
