Chapter 98: Taste Of The New World II
.................
"Oh, Captain, it appears that the organization known as the Pantheon took out a second target, done by someone called Ares," Kalifa remarked with a frown as she eyed a newspaper.
"Who?" Yovan asked, seeming curious.
"One of the Emperors of the Underworld, Giberson, the concealer." Kalifa responded as she started stroking her chin, "A lot more information was released about the Pantheon... They use crows as means of communication among other things."
"Oh, ok." Yovan shrugged as he opened his eyes, eyeing something far away.
"Crows?" Kaku doubted.
"I know what you're thinking, but no." Kalifa shook her head, "The Marines apparently suspect one of the commanders of the revolutionary army to be one of them... His power is said to directly control crows of his own creation."
"Ah, but what about those?" Kaku couldn't help but point out to the two crows that are always around Yovan, one seeming fiery while the other releasing shockwaves at all times.
"Yahahaha, who knows... I might just be one of them." Yovan shook his head with a laugh as he jumped to his feet.
"Well, I kinda believe you are, but no need to elaborate." Kalifa also shrugged. She, in fact, suspected that before even reading this particular newspaper because she noticed a few signs.
"And at least the fall of another Underworld Emperor should make things easier for Bege. It almost seems too convenient." Kaku shrugged with a strange look.
Yovan found it hard to hold back his laugh so he turned his attention to Laffitte, leaping beside him, "How did you end up leading us to another cluster of lightning?"
"I... Would you believe me if I say it was an accident?" Laffitte had a hard time holding back a twisted grin as he responded.
"Ehh, maybe?" Yovan eyed the Island on the Horizon with interest. It was very apparent, made clear by the cluster of purple lightning all over it, "I guess this might be good training?"
"Huh?" Laffitte's eyes widened, and his lips trembled, "It wasn't an accident!! In fact, let's turn around and head somewhere else that's not as dangerous... Please?"
"No no, I'm sure it was an accident. Besides, we have guests." Yovan leaped on the crow's nest, looking down on a small boat heading towards them.
He wasn't able to see who is within because they were hidden with an umbrella, but his Observation Haki told him enough.
So a second later, Yovan was standing on the edge of the boat, crouched before an old lady. She was quite short and adorned in a black cloak with an odd smile on her wrinkly face.
"It's been long since we had visitors," The old lady remarked.
"Am I welcome here?" Yovan asked.
"Of course of course. I'm just here to welcome you, and here, take these, they shall keep you safe from the danger of the weather." She said as she handed him a few black umbrellas.
"Really? They can stop the lightning?" Yovan curiously asked.
"It's how we survive," That's all the old lady had to say before the boat started sailing back to the Island by itself, and Yovan didn't prey further as he returned to his Ship.
"Seizon, you'll stay here, alright? It's too dangerous there." Yovan murmured before throwing the Strangers the Umbrellas, "How long do we have to stay there, Laffitte?"
"We don't have to? You know, the great thing about being a pirate is that we don't have to do anything we don't want to do, so let's just turn back. We can train elsewhere... Please?" Laffitte's response was strange, to say the least.
"It's okay, I won't be too harsh on you, alright?" Yovan gently smiled as he assuredly patted Laffitte on the shoulders, making him tremble.
"Antarisa... You can laze around, I guess." Yovan's words left Antarisa in shock, utterly confused. She stood up, and lightly brushed her head against him, even sniffing him to make sure it was actually Yovan talking.

"Are you sick or something?" Even Kalifa had to wonder.
"What? I don't think about working hard all the time, you know? Well..." Yovan stroked his chin realizing that he was indeed working hard all the time.
The Strangers may have assumed that he cut himself some slack since their reunion, but he actually never stopped working hard because his body was going through hell even at the moment.
His Kiryu Hasshoken was working on breaking his body inside out at all times, and his body was evolving to resist its effects, especially Armament Haki's Survival instinct.
And Yovan's main focus wasn't even on that, but on the Everless Crows, working on pushing the ability beyond what it's supposed to be possible.
"At least, we have to stay only two days before the Log Pose resets." Laffitte sighed in resignation as he eyed the Log Pose in his hand, one different than the one he had in Paradise.
While Paradise can generally be navigated by a single standard Log Pose, the New World, requires more elaborate measures.
That's due to the fact that some islands change or even completely hide their magnetic fields at random, which may leave a crew stranded if they rely on a Log Pose with only a single needle.
To safely navigate through the New World, a crew needs to have a Log Pose with three needles.
Each needle records the magnetism of one of three different islands simultaneously, as opposed to the Paradise Log Pose, which only records the magnetic waves of one island at a time. This way, if you lose the magnetism of one island, you still have two backup options.
Moreover, the stability of the needle reflects the stability of the island's magnetic field; if the needle is displaying erratic movement, it means that the island's magnetism is unstable.
There are no guarantees, but as a rule of thumb, this likely means that there is something dangerous on the island, as disturbances in magnetism can be caused by abnormalities on the islands in the New World.
And such an Island was the lightning Island, named Raijin Island, one of the three islands in the New World which someone has to travel to if they are following their Log Pose after passing through the Red Line via Fish-Man Island.
It's, however, the most unstable of the three, so it's rarely visited. It's also the most dangerous of the three.
In fact, the only reason the Strangers reached it was because of Laffitte's actions because the cyclone sent them directly to the eye of the storm, a cluster of purple lightning, and they fell not far from the Island.
Kalifa started floating toward the Island on one of her bubbles. Kaku crouched to the ground, seemingly accumulating force in his spring-like legs before leaping towards the Island, and lastly, Laffitte flew there.
Raijin Island wasn't big, but it was still one of the most exquisite pieces of land in New World. Its appearance is simply unmistakable due to the constant never-ending purple lightning falling upon it.
Even the clouds above it that are supposed to be dark were glowing purple due to the storm of lightning brewing within.
The clouds were in fact a part of a storm enveloping the surroundings of the Island, dozens of miles around.
However, only the Island seem to attract lightning to it because its surroundings didn't suffer the brunt of lightning at all.
All of that purple lightning was brewing in the sky in a cluster of pure destructive beauty, and only a speck of it was reaching the Island.
"Phew... Pjhahh... Chills, but I can handle more." Yovan being Yovan felt like standing on the Island without an umbrella, taking on the lightning showers head on.
"Kakakakaka, It's really been forever since I met someone like you." The old lady remarked.
They were all at a campfire, comfortably relaxing amidst the shower of lightning, all because of the umbrellas.
It wasn't only the old lady, but also several other individuals in dark cloaks, all using the seemingly magical umbrellas that can somehow dissipate the oncoming lightning.
"Oh, really? Who wa... Phaw... s it?" Yovan asked, only interrupted by a lightning spark falling directly upon him, forcing him to release a long dark breath.
"It's been a while, huh... And he didn't need the ink to resist it." The old lady easily evaded giving a name, pointing out Yovan's need for Armament Haki to resist the onslaught of lightning.
Yet even with Haki, Yovan still felt pain course through him, pain he can handle, but excruciating pain nonetheless.
"Hmm, I guess this could serve as an introduction to New World. If I can handle the lightning without Haki, then is there anything I can not handle? I mean, yeah, but let's take it a challenge at a time." Yovan being Yovan.
