When I was a child, expressing my emotions was a newly discovered experience. Nevertheless, I soon realized that many others like me also started with an inspiring cry of emotion. What could soon be an unconscious discovery is now something to be taken for granted.

Despite enjoying what life has been like in the past, the future still looms large outside the window. With that, the feeling of uncertainty amplifies, and I am left with an anxiety crisis. I used to believe that I would remain the same forever, until I reached adolescence.

A weakened desire and little joy to boot. I could only express fewer emotions towards everything, which at some point made me feel that my life was lacking thrill and excitement.

I found myself farther from being ordinary—from being human. That alone frightened me. My life had started to distort, and things weren't the same as they were back then either.

All the excessive pain had tainted me, but it was not too late to recover. I don't feel like giving up after all the pain I've been through. It would be foolish to even consider giving up after enduring so much and sacrificing so much of myself.

This was why, whenever I had the chance, I wouldn't hesitate to express what little emotion I have towards my kind.

Although, even with all that, nothing really has changed for me. Maybe by thinking too much, I could’ve found a solution to my problem. And yet, it doesn’t seem to be that easy to figure out whenever I think about it too deeply.

Personally, minding my own business and having fun is a much better approach.

Not this time, though; I am actually meeting with someone I’ve never met before for the first time. And speaking of the first time, this had been the very first time in my life that I had to force myself outside of my house.

I am not an introvert at all; I just have nothing better to do with my life, so I decided to spend it on indoor stuff. It’s depressing on the surface, but I take whatever respite I can get.

At a distance, a person waving in my direction was walking slowly toward me. “Did I take too long, Nate?”

As I thoroughly observed her outfit, I could feel the number of preparations she had made. I wasn’t really a fan of fashion, but the mere sight of light makeup and attractive clothes made me question my outfit. It was a real fit for the summery weather.

I’d be the luckiest man in the world if she became my girlfriend.

“Not really,” I said. “I don’t think this is necessary at all, Sarah.”

Sarah sat down and replied, “What can I do? We’re talking about that thing! It’s impossible to think that I stand a chance alone,” she added. “I am telling you it’s a sacrifice for the better cause.”

I don’t think this has anything to do with which cause you’re trying to walk towards, though.

“Yeah, yeah. Whatever.” I uninterestedly retorted.

There were no surprises at our first meeting because we had already seen each other via video call. It was my decision to see each other as a sign of friendship... in a video game. I mean, maybe this is not the best way to highlight our friendship, but whatever.

We've already come to this point, so there is no reason to contemplate my actions.

The reason why we had to meet each other in the middle of the city was because of an event being held today—the anime convention. As much as I dislike going toward bigger crowds, there are times when I must adapt to the things I hate for the sake of getting what I want.

It was this alignment of interest toward one thing that brought us to our official face-to-face meeting.

"Shouldn't we be going there already?" she grumbled.

“We can use the back of the building to get inside. Although, we don’t need to get too hasty. They’re preparing as we speak,” I murmured. "I am really surprised. I never thought I’d be seeing you in front of me."

“I could say the same. Actually, now that I am looking at you, you don’t look bad at all,” she remarked with a smile.

“Seriously? You think I have a chance if I confess to you?” I said, teasing her.

She laughed at me and said, “Oh, Nate. You’ll never know if you try.”

I let out a meek laugh at her response and added, “That makes sense. Maybe someday, I’ll try.”

While we waited for the convention to start, we talked about different things. We reminisced about past experiences that we had both enjoyed and endured, as well as those that were unrelated to either of us. Simply put, I now understand her more fully than I did before our talk.

And soon after, I guided her behind the venue so we could immediately do our deeds easily and without any complications.

As we continued to personally interact with one another after this, our friendship grew even stronger. Despite the fact that I generally made jokes about confessing to her, it ended up happening that way, and we became couples.
