Facts:
The Firebolt is a world-class broomstick. It was the fastest at the time of its production and was released in 1993. In time, the Firebolt broomstick was used by the Bulgarian and Irish International Quidditch Teams. The teams played on Firebolts during the 1994 Quidditch World Cup. By 2014, the Firebolt had been superseded by the Firebolt Supreme, apparently manufactured by the same makers.

October 1st, 1993. Sirius has been freed, his face is all over the news now, and Harry was beyond happy that he had a godfather. Ed, however, was an annoyed mess. His Gryffindor housemates kept pestering him about the firebolt that was supposed to come today. The information had been leaked, courtesy of Ron’s and Harry’s loudmouth, and it caused a lot of things.
Firstly, the Gryffindor team, especially Oliver Wood, kept recommending who should he give the firebolt to; he kept recommending Harry; but he refused, saying that Harry would get his own as Sirius had been freed, which excites him even more. Then he recommended one of the chasers, and Ed said that he’d think about it. Coincidentally, Katie Bell tried to get close to Ed, and sometimes even made some flirty suggestions, which made Hermione furious and tried to drag him as far away from the girl as possible.
Secondly, Ed earned the attention of the Slytherins, saying that ‘The Blood Traitor is really arrogant, giving firebolts for free to the team.’, which made Ed laugh, as they’re clearly envious. Daphne also heard this and jinxed whoever said those words, for her sake, and for her sister to not be influenced by their words.
And lastly, which is the most annoying of them all, the entire Gryffindor house kept talking about it, which irked Ed. He had told Ron that if he talks about it he will jinx him, but now, how can he jinx the entire house? Unless he wanted to be expelled.
But right now though, Ed was eating his breakfast in the Great Hall, ignoring the firebolt talk around him. He had sat beside Hermione, who’s also annoyed at the firebolt talks, so she and Ed sat in the corner, avoiding everyone.
“Hermione, have you learned the Patronus Charm?” Ed asked casually, but Hermione definitely knows something is going on, as for the last week, he kept asking about it.
“For the last time Ed, I haven’t learned it, it’s harder than you think!” Hermione was annoyed. “Why do you keep asking anyway? The dementors are gone.”
Ed shrugged, “No reason.”
Hermione eyed Ed suspiciously, she definitely knew that something was going on, but before she could talk, the owls came in, and with it, Ed’s firebolt.
“Here we go…” Ed muttered in annoyance, thinking of the swarm when the firebolt dropped in front of him.
“Just run Ed.” Hermione also muttered, looking grim. “Just run and don’t look back, forget about me here…”
Ed rolled his eyes at Hermione’s attitude. “Don’t be so dramatic… I hate dramas…”
“Yet you always find yourself in the middle of one.” Hermione pointed out, which made Ed sigh.
Then the broom dropped in front of Ed, which made the Gryffindors, or rather, the entire student body, look at Ed. “Shit.” Ed muttered, feeling the gazes. “Alright, see you later. Hermione, tell Richard to come to the classroom after this.”
Ed then quickly stood up and took the broom; he ran towards the door, and people followed him, looking forward to seeing the broom, but Ed had other plans; once he got out of the Great Hall, he turned towards the corridor, avoiding everyone’s eyes, and blinked to the empty classroom, which is empty.
The excited crowd was confused when they turned to the corridor and saw Ed missing, they searched around the place, but couldn’t find him; eventually, they turned towards Hermione, who was last seen with Ed, so Hermione was the sacrifice to this game of cat and mouse.
While Hermione was bombarded with questions while also cursing Ed’s name below her breath, Ed sighed in relief as he arrived at the classroom safely; he opened the casing of the firebolt, and looked at the design.
“Hmmm Let’s see…” he inspected the broom in detail. “Ebony, the twigs have some hazel and birch, unbreakable braking charm, the ironwork is really well done… goblin-made maybe…”
The classroom door then suddenly opened, startling Ed, but when he saw that it was Richard, he calmed down.
“You scared the shit out of me, Richard.” Ed said.
“Sorry.” He muttered, but then he turned bright again as he saw the firebolt. “So this is the famous firebolt huh?” He grinned madly, which Ed followed.
“Let’s break it down, shall we?” Ed smirked.
“Let’s.”
Ed and Richard then continued to tinker with the broomstick. If anyone saw them right now, they would be shrieking as the broomstick was practically ripped to pieces. Ed examined all the parts, the shape, the enchantment, the weight, anything that could be useful; he wrote it down in a notebook for future reference.
Then, after a couple of hours, Ed and Richard finished tinkering with it, much to their surprise. “Well, that’s certainly quicker than I thought.” Richard commented.
“Yeah…” Ed said.
“So, who are you going to give it to?” Richard asked again as he saw the ripped firebolt.
Ed shrugged, “Dunno, to be honest… Harry would probably get one, the beaters didn’t really need a firebolt, as for the chasers…” He said, “I don’t know if I can give it to one of them, Hermione will choke me to death.”
Richard chuckled, “What happened?”
Ed groaned, “You know how Hermione is, overly jealous, we’re not even together yet…”
“I read this term in one of those Japanese comics in your library…” Richard pointed out. “It was called Yandre or something, a girl who’s overly obsessed with a boy, to the point that it’s scary, like ‘killing a rival’ kind of scary…”
Ed gulped loudly, scared at the thought, “You think Hermione’s like that?”
“Not really.” Richard shrugged, “But she’s close to being that, though.”
Ed shook his head, then they both quickly fixed the firebolt, making it brand new again. “Right, I’ll deal with this; you go study the notes.”
Richard nodded and took the notebook in Ed’s hand. “I’ll read it in my dorm, unless you whip out the suitcase…”
Ed shook his head. “No, not today, sorry Richard.”
“Eh, it’s fine.” Richard shrugged as he opened the classroom door for the both of them. The two then separated as Richard went to Ravenclaw tower, while Ed went to Gryffindor tower.
Ed quickly walked to the tower, he entered the common room, and as he expected, everyone was waiting for him there, making Ed groan internally. When the students saw Ed, they immediately surrounded Ed, excited on seeing the firebolt in Ed’s hand.
“Let me through!” Ed yelled, then he saw Wood standing in the corner, seemingly looking at Ed as well. He walked to the captain of the team, and shoved the firebolt at him. “Use it well, give it to your teammates or whatever, and don’t bother me any longer, win the bloody cup, and I won’t ask you to give it back to me again.” Ed said decisively, which made Wood squealed in excitement as he kept thanking Ed for the firebolt and promised that they’ll win the cup this year.
Ed just hummed and passed through the crowd that was now surrounding Wood; he walked to his dorm and rested on his bed, thinking about random things. “Swallow…” he thought suddenly, not knowing how he suddenly thought of it; it felt weird, like someone forced it into his mind, but he just shrugged it off and continued thinking.
For the next couple of days, Ed was quiet; he was just training his space magic, and designing new stuff for the company. And now it was testing time. Ed had called Fred and George to the classroom so they could experiment on them. Ed and Richard were definitely excited, as it’s their first time testing their items on a real human being.
Ed was now walking towards the classroom, with a slightly irked Hermione following him. “Honestly Ed, this is a bad idea, what if one of them is too weak to handle your spells and gets injured?” Hermione was pestering him to no end, making him annoyed. Ed had enough and decided to stop his feet, making Hermione confused, and then he stared at her dead in the eyes, “Honestly Hermione? What did I tell you about rambling again?”
Hermione realised this, and looked down to the floor. “S-Sorry… I just can’t help it…”
Ed sighed, “People will hate you if you keep going on like this, you know that, right?”

Hermione nodded and looked at Ed a bit hopefully, “You won’t hate me though, right?”
“Honestly, right now I don’t even know anymore.” Ed smirked, “Your ramblings are getting really annoying to me. I hate to see that we cancelled our Hogsmeade outing because I was pissed at you…”
“Well, I’ll try to minimise the rambling thing…” Hermione mumbled, to which Ed just nodded and grabbed her hand to guide her to the classroom, making her blush.
After a couple of minutes of walking, the two arrived, and when they entered they saw no one was there, as they hadn’t arrived yet.
“Looks like we’re the first to come here today…” Ed muttered, sitting on one of the chairs. “By the way, Hermione, have you tried the Patronus charm yet?”
Hermione narrowed her eyes, “What is going on with you and Patronus spell Ed? there are no dementors anymore…”
“Hey, you can still use it for sending a message.” Ed pointed out, “So can you use it or not?”
“I still can’t do it yet…” she grumbled, “I don’t really have any really good memories…”
“Well, think about a happy possibility then.” Ed advised, “Think of anything that makes you happy.”
Hermione clicked her tongue and said, “I’ll try that later.”
“Why not now?”
“Everyone will come here any minute now, so it’s better to do it later.”
Ed just hummed, and a couple seconds later, the door opened, revealing Richard and Daphne walking inside together, along with Astoria.
“Do you mind if my sister tagged along today?” Daphne asked.
Ed shrugged, “Sure, I don’t mind.”
The three then quickly sat on the chairs available, wondering what they were waiting for.
“Why the hold up?” Daphne asked again.
“We’re waiting for the Weasley twins.” Richard answered, “They’re going to be our test subjects today.” Richard was grinning madly at this, and so was Ed, scaring the girls in the room.
“Would you stop it?” Hermione hissed, nudging her elbow at Ed. “It’s creepy.”
“Stop what?”
“Your grin!” She said, “You look like you wanted to kill someone…”
“Oh…” Ed dropped the grin. “Sorry.”
Then the Weasley twins finally came in; they looked curious and frightened at the same time, looking at Ed and Richard with hopeful eyes.
“So, what are we going to do?” Fred said.
“Are we going to be a living dummy for you?” George grimaced.
Richard then walked up to them. “Hey, calm down will you, it’s not going to be that bad…”
“At least we’ll stop if you look like you’re dying.” Ed continued, which made the twins gulp.
“I’m starting to regret this, George…”
“Me too Fred…”
“You’re going to be fine…” Ed reassured as he pulled out a box. “First item, the necklace.”
Ed opened the box and retrieved the necklace; he looked at the twin and asked them, “Who’s going to go first?”
The twins looked at each other and started to push the other to Ed, seemingly didn’t want to be first.
Ed sighed at this and said, “Come on man, it’s really fine, you know what, Fred, you’ll go first.”
The fighting then stopped and Fred stepped in, albeit reluctantly. “Here, wear this, then we’re going to launch some spells at you….”
Fred once again gulped loudly and just took the necklace, wearing it around his neck.
“Great, Richard, you do the testing, I’ll do the writing.”
Richard hummed, “Stand over there, Fred.” Richard instructed, as he pointed out a mark on the ground, in which Fred just complied and stood there.
“First spell, Stupefy spell.” Ed announced, and Richard cast it on the nervous Fred, but much to his relief, the spell didn’t hit him at all; instead it disappeared when an invisible barrier was conjured instantly.
“That’s amazing!” Fred said, “George, you should try this, it’s exhilarating!”
Ed groaned at this. “Stop it Fred, the last test will be the killing curse, so prepare yourself.”
The group instantly tensed at this. “T-The what?” Fred asked in fear.
“The killing curse.” Richard answered, a mad grin can be seen on his face.
Looking at the reactions, Ed giggled, “I’m joking Fred, of course I wouldn’t use a killing curse on you…” Ed said. “That would be 5 years too early…” Ed continued in a whisper, which only himself can hear.
Fred sighed in relief at this, but soon tensed again as Richard teased him again. “Or is he?” Richard said while smirking.
On the corner of the room, Daphne threw a book towards Richard, making him groan in pain, “Stop scaring him, Richie; a killing curse is not a joke…”
Richard chuckled nervously, “Sorry…”
