The movie had been a blast. The cinema had barely been half-full and Sun Fang had watched with bated breath during the tense scenes, feeling his heart tremble at some of the moments. The fact that he’d already seen this movie approximately fifty times and knew exactly how it went didn’t lessen his enjoyment; which he thought was the highest compliment a movie could be given.
A movie that nobody wanted to rewatch wasn’t a very good movie at all, really.
Mo Cheng hadn’t said a word to him in the cinema. To be fair, Sun Fang hadn’t said a word to him either, far too enraptured with the tale being told before his eyes.
When the movie was over and they exited the cinema, Sun Fang turned to the other man and asked, ”Not as bad as you thought, huh?”
”Careful,” Mo Cheng drawled. ”The date’s not over yet.”
Sun Fang barked out a laugh, delighted that Mo Cheng was playing along. He saw Mo Cheng glancing at him, and he didn’t think it was very vain of him to acknowledge that he was very good-looking. Sun Fang knew that he wouldn’t lose against Sun Yi if it was a contest on pure looks. His brother’s appearance gave the impression of innocence and naivety though, which his own completely lacked.
The restaurant Sun Fang had picked was only about an eight minute leisurely walk from the old classic cinema. They traveled there in silence, Sun Fang soaking in the evening atmosphere. It wasn’t yet sunset, but the pink glow on the horizon as the time approached was just as magical.
Mo Cheng sped up a little to go ahead of him when he caught sight of the restaurant. The doors opened automatically when they approached, an impeccably dressed waiter waiting inside. The waiter bowed and led them to their table after sun Fang gave his name.
Their table was on the patio on the next floor. Placed in a corner next to the railing covered with winding flowers, it had a spectacular view of the district. And beyond the dome covering the shopping district, the skyline of the rest of the city could be seen. It rose almost too high-up to make sense.
He sat down across from Mo Cheng, accepting the menus the waiter handed them and flicking them open with a quiet ”Thank you”. His eyes glanced over the long lists of food, desserts, and drinks the restaurant offered and he frowned in thought. He hadn’t been to this specific restaurant often enough to know what he liked here—he usually went to more upscale places, but he hadn’t wanted to scare off Mo Cheng.
The kind of excessive wealth that his family enjoyed could be intimidating to people, he knew. It made them uncomfortable, because it was a number beyond most people’s understanding. Granted, Sun Fang didn’t have that kind of wealth anymore, but he was still on the rich side and some habits were hard to break.
Mo Cheng decided quickly what he wanted to order, and Sun Fang followed suit. They summoned the waiter back and placed their orders, and handed the menus’ over. Once the waiter was gone, Sun Fang went back to studying Mo Cheng.

”What?” Mo Cheng asked. His gaze was captured by the city’s skyline, the light from the sun reflecting off them.
Sun Fang smiled at him, ”What’s your favorite movie?”
”Dinner at the Cortosa Station,” Mo Cheng answered. He furrowed his eyebrows, ”Why?”
Sun Fang nodded, ”Just trying to get to know you.” Dinner at the Cortosa Station was a movie about twenty years old (Sun Fang had actually seen it at the cinema when it first came out) about a blind date on the aforementioned Cortosa Station that went disastrously wrong. The result was a two hour romp through space and time as the protagonists worked to fix the mess they made. It had been a pretty fun watch, all things considered.
”Mine’s 25 Letters to Home,” said Sun Fang. He sipped the water in the tall glass in front of him and leaned his head on his hand, leveling Mo Cheng with a quiet gaze. He supposed he should have expected things to be a little stilted; they had only just met, after all.
”A good movie,” Mo Cheng noted. Sun Fang nodded, his eyes drifting over Mo Cheng again. The man looked good, his appearance clean, and he smelled like the bakery he’d come from. Probably hadn’t had time to shower, then. The white shirt he was wearing hugged pretty tightly to his body and didn’t leave a lot to imagination. Mo Cheng’s clear blue eyes, his trained body, his calm scent… Sun Fang was feeling pretty good about this. Even if the date didn’t work out, and Mo Cheng didn’t want to go out with him again, he thought that he might be able to convince the beta to have some fun with him.
The waiter finally arrived with their food. Sun Fang sat up straight on the chair and watched as the plates were put down on the table. He was nearly salivating; it had been too long since he’d had a proper meal.
Mo Cheng didn’t waste any time—he was probably just as hungry as Sun Fang. Sun Fang didn’t think that the silence that fell over them as they enjoyed the food (because it truly was a much better meal than he had expected) was anything bad. It was pleasant enough to sit in the evening light as the sun slowly set, the breeze softly drifting by them, and having such a nice view. It was by no means a bad evening.
When they had finished the meal and were just sitting there in silence; gazing out at the view, at the people passing by both below them and above them on air corridors, Sun Fang said, ”Thank you for coming.”
Despite the stilted conversation, he’d had a good time.
