The resort bar was quiet on the Monday afternoon. Sun Fang had been nursing a cold soda for a good fifteen minutes now, his mind preoccupied with glancing through social media. He was dutifully staying away from all the tags and accounts that had been blocked by Ivy, even though his curiosity itched at him. Still, it had been blocked for a reason and he had to trust that it was for the better.

Right now, he was watching a tiny video of a baby lion-moose trying to climb into a human’s lap, making small whines when it failed. Sun Fang’s heart was lodged in his throat, his hand over his mouth as he watched with bated breath. The baby was too cute. The noises were adorable.

Sun Fang was in love.

Fuck, he was ruined for anyone else now, wasn’t he? Nothing could ever top this! He swooned, fanning himself when the baby was given assistance up on the human’s lap and it instantly made happy wriggling movements, obviously pleased to hell and back. Sun Fang keened a little in the back of his throat, his fanning motions increasing in speed. He sipped at the soda to calm himself down.

Forwarding the video to Poppy through his messaging app, he replayed the video from start. It was just as cute the second time around, Sun Fang’s lips stuck in a permanent smile.

”Your chips,” Hua Xingyi said, having dropped the sir. He sat across down Sun Fang, wiggling and scooting back on the seat until he was comfortable. He instantly began to munch on the bowl of chips he’d placed down on the table, giving Sun Fang a challenging look when Sun Fang glanced at him. Sun Fang merely nodded and smiled at him, his eyes quickly straying back to the baby on the screen when it whined softly. Ahh, it was too much for his heart!

”What are you looking at?” Hua Xingyi asked, leaning forward over the table and trying to catch a glimpse of the phone screen. Sun Fang helpfully held it forward and tipped the screen so Hua Xingyi could have a better view.

Hua Xingyi’s eyes widened, the pinkish orbs glittering with unconfined delight. ”Whoah…” he breathed, placing his forearms on the table and leaning even further forward. ”Cute…” he muttered, voice soft and expression relaxed.

Sun Fang’s eyes stayed on Hua Xingyi’s soft expression for a strangely long time but it was fine—he’d already watched the video three times through. He could afford to take a little break. And Hua Xingyi’s eyes were so pretty like this, his happiness and joy shining through him easily. His face was pretty on the whole; soft lines and curves.

When the video ended, Hua Xingyi raised his gaze and caught Sun Fang watching him. Furrowing his eyebrows, he leaned back a little as suspicion seeped into his expression. ”What?” he asked, tilting his head and gazing searchingly at Sun Fang.

”You’re just really pretty when you’re happy,” Sun Fang said, for some reason that he could not discern. He froze in the next second, once he’d realized what he’d said, his eyes widening somewhat from panic. Hua Xingyi had frozen as well, staring at him wide eyes. Sun Fang had the urge to shrink back, to disappear, but he prevailed and was just about to apologize when Hua Xingyi said:

”Well, I should think so, I’m a model.” Then Hua Xingyi sat down properly on his seat and frowned at him a little, just the tiniest bit.

Sun Fang licked his lips and said, ”Still, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.”

Hua Xingyi pursed his lips, then shrugged and said, ”It’s fine. Besides, you’re prettier than me.”

Sun Fang blinked, not prepared to have his beauty used against him like this. He wasn’t entirely sure how they’d ended up on this topic, but he had the feeling that it was his fault. Sipping from his soda, he allowed the coolness to sink into his bones, throwing his mind around for a second to think of an appropriate response. Finally, for lack of anything else, he said, ”I am very pretty.”

Hua Xingyi’s lips twitched, and then Sun Fang got the joy of seeing Xingyi’s full-blown grin. Hua Xingyi ducked his head, raising a hand to cover it, but it was too late. The picture was already stuck in his brain.

Sun Fang blinked rapidly. He pressed his hand to his chin and rested his weight on the table, putting his phone down for good. ”How have you been?” he asked, finding that he was unbearably curious.

”Like usual,” Hua Xingyi shrugged and scowled slightly, grabbing another handful of Sun Fang’s chips and throwing them in his mouth, the cracks as he bit down loud. Fuck, that should be annoying, shouldn’t it?

”No problems?” Sun Fang asked, still curious. Was he being annoying? Was he asking too much? Were they even friends yet?

Once he’d swallowed his mouthful of chips, cheeks puffy as he quickly chewed, Hua Xingyi said, ”Aside from a pretty bad headache yesterday, nothing major. I’m still waiting to hear from my agent about new gigs, so I’m just resting.” He grabbed some more, digging through the bowl for the biggest one. Sun Fang was pretty sure that if he didn’t grab any now, there would be none left for him.

He didn’t mind.

It was oddly relaxing, to just watch Hua Xingyi enjoy eating them. He was so open with his emotions, and every emotion just seemed to make him prettier. Sun Fang had seen some of his modeling photos, but he thought—well, he thought the other omega was much prettier when he was genuine like this.

”You, then?” Hua Xingyi asked after he finished eating another batch. He peeked quickly at Sun Fang, then lowered his gaze to the chips. The bowl was reaching the finishing line.

Sun Fang smiled, pleased. ”I’ve been relaxing at the beach and touring the city with Ivy.”
