As we finished our little chat I felt Sebas and Solution walking up to us from behind. We turned around to face them as I looked at his old face that somehow makes him look no less badass.

"Lady Shaltear, Liliana, I would've liked to accompany you for the rest of your mission. But unfortunately, we must prioritize gathering information in the city." he politely announced and returned to the carriage.

Solution gave us a bow and followed Sebas.

"Well, let's end this…" I sighed in a bored tone.

As I was taking a step, I felt like my brain was trying to pull itself into a different shape, tightening and expanding in different ways. The pain made me stumble and drop to my knee with tears leaving my eyes.

I grit my teeth and massage my temples in an attempt to maybe save myself from this excruciating pain but it's all useless, in fact, it seemed to have worsened the situation as my head started feeling pressurized and strained like something was gripping and crushing it with all its strength.

"Urgh…" I grumble as I fully collapse face-first into the dirt.

My vision turns blurry as voices echo in my ears, muffled by a high-pitched ringing sound, I was scared but I felt sudden comfort in the form of sweet whispers and a loving hug. Allowing me to give in to the darkness and blackout with a small sense of safety despite the agony of having my head split apart by an unknown force.

( POV - Monika )

I watch as my cute Liliana painfully clutches her small head in her delicate little hands, guilt plaguing my mind. My heart sinks to my stomach as I blame myself for trying to subtly brainwash her in my domain. If only I hadn't tried to alter her very thoughts she wouldn't have had to go through this situation, but we all make mistakes in the heat of passion.

Can you even blame me?

It was inevitable when she had such deep feelings for so many beings around her, I felt like she was being stolen from me. All I wanted was to implant myself deep within her heart, and maybe remove the concept of love from the minor nuisances infecting her mind. If I couldn't delete their existence, I might as well delete her feelings for them.

Unfortunately, I was blocked, creating the situation she is in right now. I think the most that could happen is that she'll be knocked out for while and her plans will be ruined… She won't find out it was my fault though, or she wouldn't forgive me.

If I'm lucky, that sister of hers will do something stupid and make a rift between them, hehehe...

( POV - Cleria )

As the mistress was about to take the lead, I saw her stumble and kneel while clutching her head. I kneel beside her and placed my hands over her small figure. Lady Shaltear got on guard and looked around us warily, beneath the wariness was no small amount of rage only bound by her evident concern.

[ Detect Magic ] [ Detect Poison ] [ Detect Curse ]

The information on her body is instantly uploaded into my brain, sorting out all the information made me feel confused. Her body is only under the effect of her passives. And none of them are supposed to make her suffer like this...

[ Greater Mind Protection ] [ Greater Heal ] [ Ultimate Disturb ]

Regardless of the detection spells, I decided to cast mental protection and attempted to heal any wounds, it's not uncommon for people to have some counter-analysis spells. And finally, ultimate disturb should be enough to stop any more subtle curses or spells from taking effect.

But much to my surprise, it did nothing... Not even soothing her pain temporarily.

At this point I was panicking inside, my body acted on its own as my mind frantically raced through any information I have on this situation. I picked up her curled-up body and held her close as her whimpers of pain caused pangs of sadness to tighten around my heart.

All I could do was caress her soft hair and give her words of comfort as she slowly lost consciousness with a pained expression on her face.

'Why am I so useless…' I think to myself as I tuck one of her beautiful strands behind her ears.

"What is her condition?" I hear from behind.

"She is unconscious, other than that there is no magical or physical damage. Not even a curse…" I answer seriously.

"Tch, I'm going to continue the mission, in case you feel someone approaching call me immediately. No matter how weak, you will notify me. Especially when you are in this vulnerable state." Lady Shaltear orders before walking off with a frustrated look on her face and her lance in the other.

I look back down at my master's adorable face and wipe the tears off her cheeks. If I find the thing responsible for her suffering, I will not stop at just death, no… I will make sure to let every single resident of Nazarick tortures their body and soul before parading their corpse around every inch of this world.

( POV - Liliana )

I opened my eyes to a strange room, oddly familiar despite the lack of any memory of being here. The walls were a dull yellow, to my right, there was a desk with a laptop and an office chair, beside it, stood a small bookshelf filled with books and CDs. And behind me was a window that gave me a view of the void beyond it. To the left is a simple wooden door. I felt an odd sense of nostalgia from them...

I was sitting on a simple bed, completely average unlike the luxuries in Nazarick. And everything felt hazy? Like a dream...

On the wall directly in front of me were three portraits, the first one was a more childish version of me, her hair was shoulder-length, her cheeks were chubbier, and her eyes shone with sweet innocence and madness. She was wearing what I assumed to be a white dress, but I couldn't see anything beneath her chest. That lovely smile made me all giddy...

Behind her was a blank background with childish doodles of flowers, stars, and ritualistic circles.

The second portrait was what seemed to be a grown-up and mature version of me with a blindfold. She had a pleasant smile that emitted maturity and calmness. She wore a grey dress with a badge above the shoulder strap, on it, there was a scale.

Her background was a courthouse with three pedestals, one white pedestal on the left, one grey pedestal in the middle, and one black pedestal on the right.

Finally, in the third portrait, her appearance would be a carbon copy of mine. If it weren't for the expressionless face and blood splatter covering half of it. She wore a black dress with no additional features. And her background was a pile of decapitated bodies of many races, both heteromorphic, demi-human, and humanoid.

"Where am I?" I think? but hear it as if spoken.

"No way!" A childish voice screamed from above.

I look in its direction and see a smaller child version of me, staring wide-eyed as stars twinkled in her eyes. It was the girl from the first portrait, standing on the ceiling above with an adorable smile on her face that showed her excitement and curiosity.

I blinked my eyes and she disappeared from her previous place, I then felt something extremely light on my lap and looked down, coming face to face with her.

"Hi! My name is Liliana," she introduced herself sweetly as one of her little hands gave me a wave.

At first, I was confused, but that was quickly crushed by an urge to squeeze the little toddler and kiss her chubby cheeks relentlessly.

" She's adorable... I just want to hug her little body, look at those cute little stars in her eyes... " I thought, or tried to think but it reverberated through the room.

She stiffened up and squirmed a little while blushing.

"Well... I am very cute, but that doesn't mean I felt good about what you said! I... I have to go!" She scrambled with an intense blush and disappeared again.

I giggled at her reaction,

"Welcome to your subconscious, Liliana. We are the three pieces of you that were built from the fusion of the character creation bio and your previous unaltered soul." I hear from my right, making me jump.

Looking at the source of the mature voice, I come face to chest with a big boobed version of me with a blindfold. She picks me up and places me on her lap, patting my head softly as her smile grows from pleasant to warm and motherly.

"Okay..." I reply awkwardly.

"What is going on right now?" I *think*

She stops patting me as if remembering something.

"I... I don't know? Apologies, It's the first time interacting idly with someone." She replies with a pink blush peeking out from under her blindfold.

"Why am I here then?" I ask barely holding in a chuckle, forgetting my initial discomfort.

"Y- Yes, how could I forget." She clears her throat.

"When you met that being, Monika, she tried manipulating our thoughts on her and the people we love, to her favor. And that didn't sit well with us so we resisted her attempts. Causing this situation." She continued.

"Ruining our plans to save Shaltear. We should be asleep for the next 3-4 hours." The other me commented coldly with a tinge of rage as she rose from underneath the bed.

We stared at her standing figure for while as she blankly stared back with cloudy eyes that seemed empty and cold.

" She'd look much better if she smiled... " I thought gazing at her.

She looked at me for a few seconds, then tried to smile, but it came out crooked, weird, and very forced. It gave both me and my mature version chills to see her have such a hard time smiling. I sighed and looked at an empty bean bag on the floor.

"Where did the cute one go?" I asked.

"You scared her away, she's very weak to compliments, even when you were the one receiving them she would blush like a young man being approached by his crush. This was her very first time receiving one directly." Mature-me chuckled.

"That's so cute!" I whispered with a smile while gazing at the empty bean bag, prompting a little noise of glee from behind the bookshelf.

We all looked in her direction as the little version of me shyly left her hiding spot while fidgeting with her hair and avoiding our eyes. She quickly dashed into her bean bag and buried her face in it, too bad we could still see her little crimson ears peeking out of her hair.

After composing herself, she sat properly, as a small blush stayed on her cheeks. She looked at us with a pouty face and some indignation.

"Umm, please stop looking at me like that..." She pleaded while gripping her dress.

I couldn't hold it anymore and burst out laughing as my mature version smiled fondly.

"I will if you sit here" I offer as I pat my legs.

She teleported to my lap and I immediately started hugging her little body affectionately. So cute!

"So, what should we do when we wake up?" I ask while rubbing my cheeks on hers.

"Ummm, If Shaltie gets brainwashed, we should kidnap one of the Black Scripture members, brainwash them, alter their body, and make them hunt down their friends!" She replied energetically.

"Stupid." The dull me replied.

"Shut up, You're gloomy and boring!" The child in my lap pointed at her and replied, prompting a sharp glare in return.

"Behave yourselves," Mature-me ordered.

They calmed down immediately after hearing the voice of reason. Then looked at me as if expecting a final answer.

"Although I like your idea sweetie, sadly, it lacks planning and it's too vague... But we have time, don't we? So let's plan out the perfect way to cause them the most suffering for brainwashing my cute Shaltie, if they manage to do so." I calmly suggested while hugging her tighter.

And so we began planning our assault on the insolent members of Black Scripture.

As for this room, and all the details of my subconscious? That can wait for another time.

[ A/N: "Brain" here is used as a location, and the brainwashing is being done by a reality manipulating entity in its domain. Overlord rules don't apply themselves in Monika's domain. Do comment if you have any criticism, and I know I rushed the subconscious stuff but that will come later. ]
