Sinners, that’s what we were, through one way or another, existences that brought chaos wherever we went. All of us enemies, and with a given chance, we’d gladly take each other’s life.

To me, a golden chance like that occurred after waging war with them for a long time. When the overseer awakened, a great yet sadistically being cornered all of us inside his intricate jail. His words back then still resound in my mind, far from a lost memory, but instead like a vivid blurred warning.

Dressed in black, he bowed gallantly to us, who stood watching with our immobile bodies and shut mouths. “I welcome you to a prosperous new opportunity. For the thirty of you were the most talented individuals out of this universe.” Evilly he smirked, causing me and those around a chill sensation to crawl down on our spines. Fear, an emotion lost from ancient times that surfaced to greet us.

His long black hat didn’t take long to leave his head, as that too was a cordial act from his gentleman self. The sensation kept on repeating itself whenever something came out of his lips. I swore back then as I did till this very day. It was anything but words.

“Out of boredom... no,” he grinned playfully, correcting himself, “to grant a chance for my one true wish to come true. I’ve kidnapped every single one of you to struggle for life once more.”

Our bodies, who were once part of the mortals, obtained immortality through many feats. Fatefully, we encountered a wall that none of us could surpass. Godhood. Knowing of our grand flaw, and weakness, this had now become the magnificent reward, his gracious prize.

“Yes.” He showed us how magically his fingers were, when two of them twisted and a board on top of this white table shone in blue hues. All of our eyes moved towards it and we knew deep down that was our destiny. The thirty of us who remained seating, and he who explained how the game would go. Or so we thought, instead a book of rules soon appeared in front of us and our hands went for it without hesitation.

The first one shocked me. ‘Past life memories will be kept...’ This meant that we were going through reincarnation into new bodies while keeping some of the knowledge we once had, potentially all of it. It included some exceptions like we not remembering what everyone picked or spoke about in this pseudo assembly.

‘Upon choosing one of the races, the being will become it till the end of the game.’ As soon as I finished reading this one, pieces appeared in front of me, reminding me of chess imitations, but with a different aspect to them. They were both cute and fierce. My opinion changed depending on which of them my eyes glanced at.

‘A little human... demon... dragon...’ I mumbled the entire list that exhibited itself in front of me, now on a screen, after touching one of them.

Race Human

Race Demon

Race Beast

Race Monster

Race Dragon

Race Spirit

Information entered my mind as I hovered between them. ‘Race demon, type can end up in an imp, succubus...” The list was long, boring me in the process, causing me to let go of the piece, shutting down the screen at the same time.

I gazed at him, the overseer as they called him, my companion as I named him in our forgotten past. “All of these are equally fair, correct?”

His dark self faced me without a second to waste. An incomprehensible smooth instance, that the moment my brain realized it; it felt to me like he had always been facing me, stealing one of my heartbeats. “It is, as you say, my representative.”

Once his words finished, the others realized their mouths were no longer sealed, thus mumbling began, causing the room to get livelier. Compared to the other ones, He selected me to win in his place, since that was the only way both of us could realize his grand desire, my truest wish. But of course that everyone else would make sure to go against me, as they’ve always done throughout the past years. Tired of being in the same place as these vermin, my hand grasped the piece with an exclamation mark on top of it, causing me to go random.

At that, my senses dulled, even going as far as to become non-existent, turning my vision dim for a while. It didn’t take long for powerlessness to possess my body, feeling stripped of the unfathomable powers that once circulated through me. A weakling too, I had become. A voice that my mind didn’t recognize popped, resounding greatly, and clear.

Admin: You’ve been stripped of your powers. Messages with the admin tag will be heard solely by the player who receives them, however, system ones are widely known to those who live in the world.

Out of habit, I nodded in agreement, realizing that my body was once again alive... Sort of.

“What an odd sensation,” I complained, feeling things that were new, tingling sensations flowing through my inner self.

“You’ve been awarded the race spirit with a type known as fairy.” That voice awakened something within me, allowing my eyes to once again see.

The floor beneath the two of us was blue and black, square shaped, like checkers. It made me remember of board games. I placed my hand on top of the right side of my head, feeling hazy.

“It’ll take a while till you get used to your new body, in all senses you can imagine.”

I snickered at those words, feeling things that I thought extinct, memories and emotions alike. It truly felt like a new birth, where everything was fresh. With my newly gained emotion, suspicion grew within me and feeble words followed. “Who or...” As his physique became clearer, my initial statement received a punch, being forced to change it. “More like, what are you?”

Correspondingly, to what the overseer had once done, the green-looking vermin bowed towards me, dressed in a fancy black suit and in a hat of similar fashion. “I am one of these world administrators. You can think of us as guides.” Once he lifted his hat, I took a glimpse of a scarred one dyed in black on his green forehead. “These numbers are the sole trait, that and the ability to conjure things like...”

Admin: This.
