Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Mystical dance

A while later, I returned to the festival where many colorful fairies danced, drinking more of that powerful liquid, eventually falling to exhaustion. 

“These guys sure know how to celebrate,” I voiced out loud, without expecting anyone to hear; making my way to my parent’s side.

“Welcome back, son. Did you enjoy the mystical dance of the fairies?” My father smiled delightedly. I knew I had his eyes on me in the beginning, but he must’ve lost me in the process since he was questioning me about it. There was also no necessity to keep a guard on me all the time as no one most likely wouldn’t dare to do anything to me, other than eat me apparently. 

“It was quite fun, took me a bit to get a hand of the dancing steps, but ended up managing my way through.”

He laughed happily, slapping the ground next to him for me to take a seat. 

“Hungry?”

“Ah yes,” after all that action, there was no way I could pass on some more food. My eyes quickly caught him raising his arm to a not too far fairy, a distinct one with beautiful tones of blue. She was like the sky itself. It made me pass my right hand through my lips, gulping.

“Bring some more food!” He shouted, quickly obtaining confirmation from a sweet voice, followed by getting hold of me in the embrace of his right arm.

“Do you want more of that blissful nectar of ours?” His laughter continued, allowing me to find his cheeks and nose rather red, making me think that he was possibly tipsy.

“I’m good, thank you. Still digesting the last one,” I laughed with him.

“Good, good!”

With his free hand, he pointed in front of us, extending it from our right side to the left one.

“Look at them all, Flamerah! These consist of the nobles of our forest, most of them.” 

I did as the king ordered, finding upon those who were regarded as something greater than the rest of us. I realized it then. They shared a similar particularity with one another. 

“The reason they only have one color is that-“

My father quickly took a glance at my question, interrupting me; grinning from cheek to cheek, ecstatic with the ability of my observation and deduction.

“It is indeed! Pure bloodlines show the perfectness of one’s appearance since birth! And that’s why we have this celebration in the field of flowers where the nobles and the members of the royal family are born!”

“Then, where do the peasants flourish their kids?”

“Anywhere else.” 

I felt his tone getting colder. It made me realize that he saw them as a possible lesser form.

My eyes glanced at the night sky and the brightness of the massive, twinkling white stars.

‘Plenty of things to change around here,’ I smirked evilly, like only I knew how to do, holding a hand in front of me to cover it.

The girl who looked like the sky soon delivered me a bowl of fruits, this time around not having a single nasty worm.

“Thank you,” she lowered her head before leaving. 

Her eyes were of a dark blue, and they were the most beautiful tone I had ever seen. 

A single look at them made my heart race, and my lips to curve in delight. But I didn’t dare to make a move at her child-like appearance, who seemed to hold within a great sense of innocence, or so her stare portrayed. 

Yet, something mysterious about her would keep me looking forward to meeting her again. 

“Speaking of which, where’s my mother?”

“She returned home to get some rest.”

I mumbled a barely audible sound, surprised that the queen was already done with the celebration, finding it to be suspicious at the very least. 

Yet, there was also a chance that it was nothing to stress about. 

System: You’ve received a FFF trait, detoxification.

‘Uh? Say what?’ I took a look at my player status, finding out a new option called traits next to skills, touching it, opening a screen with all of them, even though there was only one, the one my finger touched in order to obtain a description.

Traits:
FFF: Detoxification - Mastery: 1%.

System: Traits are natural things that the body possesses, being permanently active.

System: Detoxification is a body trait that will help clear any toxins. 

‘This...’ I became bewildered at the information. It meant these fairies were stupid enough to hurt their bodies to feel some sort of abnormal enjoyment.

I sighed, knowing that I shouldn’t have expected much from a tribe who walked around naked, eating worms and other pieces of raw food as completely natural. Thus, I wondered on how many fairies could have possibly died from food poisoning, hiding part of my face in despair.

‘Overseer... oh overseer. Did you really have to make them this dumb?’ I frowned, yawning briefly after feeling the fatigue of a long day accumulated. Yet, my stomach growled, thus I finished the meal before excusing myself.

“Father, I’m quite tired. Is there a place where I could rest?”

He rubbed his beard, taking a peek at the night sky, understanding or so I assumed, that he could tell that it was quite late in the night by looking at it. Upon reaching some sort of conclusion, he called upon a guard that escorted me to the home where the royal family lived in. And so I followed him, the one who had shown me what a fireball looked like, a tiny flame, far smaller than me.

It didn’t take too long thanks to him flying us there, like my father had done before, dropping me close enough to an entrance which we went in. It didn’t seem like there was a sort of lamps, lanterns, or even candles. Thus, with his magic, he showed me the way, till I found myself in a room all for myself. A piece of wooden, with a rectangular shape and leaves on top and on the sides.

‘Well, at least I’m not sleeping on the floor,’ I averted my eyes with disgust, feeling the need to change everything about this forest. And with such inner emotions, I went towards the dreamland.
