Nathan Richards leads a group of S-Rank adventurers that he and his childhood friends put together.

They picked him as their leader because he was the most capable of taking charge. He's also excellent at handling people, which is why they all listen to what he has to say without hesitation.

Even when it comes down to business matters like contracts and negotiations, Nathan keeps everyone in line with his calm demeanor. His team respects him so much for this reason that even if there are disagreements between them over how things should be handled on missions, they'll always come back to Nathan for advice before going.

Due to his current strength, his friends started suggesting he go somewhere more challenging, where he could make better use of his abilities.

However, he never considered breaking away from the group because having adventures with his pals was his goal.

It wasn't just about getting stronger or becoming famous; he wanted to enjoy himself while doing what he loved. And so far, nothing has made him happier than being able to do exactly that.

"Hey, guys!" called out a voice behind him. "I'm done here."

The voice that spoke up belonged to one of his teammates—a girl named Shizuku Kamiuchi. She looked around fifteen years old but acted younger than she was. Her long hair flowed down her shoulders as she approached, carrying two large bags.

She was the youngest of the group, and Nathan was her role model.

"What did you find?" asked Nathan.

Shizuku set both of the sacks on the ground and unzipped them. Inside were several different kinds of weapons: swords, spears, shields, etc. even some items used by hunters who went after monsters. They'd been gathered during the expedition into the forest, and now they sat in front of him, waiting to be appraised.

"After we sell these items, we'll split the gold equally," Nathan said to start the conversation.

"That's not fair; you did most of the mission," a boy said, raising his voice.

Everyone turned toward him. This kid was probably only thirteen or fourteen. He didn't have any distinguishing features other than the fact that he seemed quite angry.

His name was Merentiel, and he had been Natha's best friend since childhood. The pair of them got along well enough, although they sometimes argued over trivial things.

"Well, I guess that makes sense..." replied another member of the group. That person was Yumina Amagiri, who stood next to Meren.

Yumina was an older woman, perhaps twenty-five years old, but she still treated everyone else as though they were children.

Her attitude was incredibly friendly, and many people liked her very much. But whenever something came up that required serious discussion, she would turn cold and distant.

The third member of the party, was Yuuki Aritomo, a young man whose face reminded Nathan of someone. However, he couldn't place the resemblance.

He wore glasses, which gave him a scholarly look, but he was fairly skilled in combat despite looking frail. In truth, he was almost twice as strong as Nathan himself, but he preferred to stay quiet and let others lead.

Yuuki removed his glasses, rubbed his eyes, and replaced them on his nose. Finally, he cracked a tiny grin and said, "You make a good point. Nathan has worked hard for his abilities, and we shouldn't take advantage of him."

All three members agreed with Yuuki's statement.

Merentiel glanced around the room at everyone and said, "Since you've brought that up, I have to get back to a touchy subject."

Foreseeing his opponent's response, Nathan sighed, "I already know what you're going to say, and no, I'm not going to look for a better group; I'm already happy here."

This was the same argument that Meren had tried to use to convince him to leave earlier.

"I have already signed you up for a trial with a great group."

"I won't. Besides, if I leave, what will happen to you?"

"We'd finally be put in the right category," Merentiel said with sadness.

"No way! "You don't understand how important our friendship is to me."

"With all due respect, I understand completely, and I don't want to see you wasting your time with a bunch of useless people," Mere answered.

A moment later, he continued, "Come on, everyone already knows this and talks about it. If it weren't for him, we'd probably be at rank C."

"Rank D," corrected Yuuki.

Nathan shook his head. "Not true. Plus, my ranking isn't based entirely on strength; there are plenty of factors involved."

"Yeah, but you can beat us all in terms of pure power alone. We're fine with that, but even then, why do you insist on staying?"

"Because we're friends."

There was silence in the air as everyone contemplated their answer. Eventually, Yuuki cleared his throat and said, "Look, I agree with what Meren said before; you need to consider your future."

"And I think you should go ahead and try to join a more prestigious guild."

"I won't, and that's my final decision."

Everyone sighs.

"At least agree to get a higher reward for the quests."

Merentiel and Nathan gave in to the agreement because they saw no other option.
