Questions

Hmmm. I quickly check the new thing in my status while taking the Quest requirements for the kobold.

Kobold Hunt - Easy - 0/10

Hmmm. The physical reward part has disappeared but I can continue getting points for killing them. If it is like this with the goblins, those fuckers are going down. I have a look at the goblin again but it just looks like an ugly version of a human, same child size as the kobold without fur and slightly… green? Gray? Doesn't matter. I carve what seems to be a horn that comes out of his forehead by only a little as it's what the guild needs. I still don't get why they record kills but still need physical evidence.

Alright, enough messing around. Time to gather points. I can feel my lips move in response.

It's been a while now and the sky is getting high. I still want to have a chat with the reference old man so I start to head back while checking the Quest Log

Hmmm. I want to try and get 3 goblins on my way out but I think I have killed too many in this area since my Intuition tells me they'll spot me when I get close and they are starting to pair up as well. I think I can take several on at once but I need to practice with the sword. I even tried using one of the throwing knives I bought at the shop but it completely missed.

I just now have 5 Points so I need to be careful how I spend it. I think I'll keep 5 on me at all times for when I desperately need them and start spending when I get more. From what I can see Stealth can't go any higher, Lockpicking only has 3 Points till Lvl 10 as well,  I am pretty sure I should put points into Swordsmanship and I am undecided if I should use Magic for ranged attacks or get the Throwing skill. Throwing is only 1 Point so it should be okay. Magic is 5 Points to acquire but it seems it only needs 1 Point to the next level. For some reason I cant put more Points into Analyze even though it is Lvl 1.

I want to ask people about my skills but since the receptionist who accepted me looked surprised at all the skills I showed I think I should only talk about the ones I have already shown. My head is starting to hurt again so I just focus on getting back to town while focusing on just Stealth and my other skills.

I quickly make it back to town, finding only one goblin on the way. For some reason everyone was standing outside the town in a row but I needed to go in so I walked past them and entered. Retracing my steps I find my way back to the guild, turning off Stealth as I enter, I quickly head to the receptionist.

“I killed Kobolds and Goblins.” He quickly turned to me and replied.

“Huh. Oh. Ok, hand over the proof and your card please.” Oh right I didn't check if the card recorded the kills. I quickly check before handing them over.

I lift the shitty bag Marvo gave me and empty it on the table. It all comes clattering down.

“Hmmmm. Not bad for an F-Rank. You should keep it up, maybe you'll actually be an Adventurer some day.” He lines up my money on the table. 1535 Rans. It adds up so I leave and head up to the reference room.

I enter the reference room and head straight to the old man.

“Oh, Young lady, back again huh. What do you want to know this time?”

“How to find bad people?”

“Huh well. I don't think there are really many books that the Adventurers Guild keeps on the matter but I can tell you what I know from the bits and pieces in various books.”

“That works.”

“Alright. Have a seat. I assume you mean Evil people, yes? Or do you mean criminals?”

“What's the difference?”

“We have to start from there? Well, although all Jobs that aren't accepted by society are called Criminal Jobs a lot of the people who have those jobs aren't exactly Evil. There are also ways of not having a Criminal Job while being Evil.”

“Like the Lord?”

“Well I don't know what Job he has specifically. There is the Criminal Job called Evil Lord or Evil Monarch or even Ruler of Evil but if he had a way to keep the Feudal Lord job then yes. Since like I said the Job System doesn't have a clear cut way to tell who is evil or good there are jobs that specialize in the role. The Bounty Hunter has the skill Sense Crime which allows them to feel who has the highest crime record in a set area. The Oracle or Seer has the skill Read Soul which is basically a quick Appraisal version of the Record Reader we have at the guild. There is also the Paladin and most religion Jobs have Sense Evil which is like Presence Detection but just for Evil.”

“Huh? Do you only get skills from your job?”

“You… Did your parents not teach you anything? You only get skills from your job, although sometimes some skills can be carried over when you do a Job Change.”

Damn, my head is hurting again but there's too much I don't know. I need to keep asking.

“Can you not tell anyone about all this?”

“Are you embarrassed? I get it, since it seems like you had trouble growin’ up, If you ever have something you don't understand just ask me and I'll you let know.”

“Ok. What are the letters in my Status?” He breathes a deep sigh this time.

“I feel bad for ya. If you just think EXPAND while looking at your status you'll see something cool.” I go for it and almost fall out of my seat.

“Hahaha. Nice reaction. Usually people just keep it the other way since you don't need it normally. Just think CONTRACT and It'll go back to how it was before.”

“What is…?”

“Ah. I got you. There is Strength which is your physical strength…

(Sum up)

Agility is how fast you can go. Strength + Dexterity / 2

Dexterity is how well you perform fine movements

Endurance is your total stamina and non-magical defense. Dexterity + Energy / 2

Energy is your Soul Power. How much mental capacity you have among other unconfirmed things.

Magic Defense is your resistance to magical attacks. Energy + Magic Power / 2

Magic Power is just how much Magic your body can store.

Magic Damage is how powerful your spells are. Even healing spells scale with this. Magic Power + Strength / 2

Numbers round up.

My head is going to burst.

“Fuck me.”

“Nnnn. Young lady?”

“Yea…”

“You say you wanna hunt bad guys right?”

“Definitely.”

“Considering what you want to do you should probably lay off those words?”

“Huh? But everyone says them?”

“Yes… but… ummm how to say it… It doesn't suit you?”

“???” I tilt my head at his odd words.

“Let's just say that they are bad words. Really only meant for bad guys and angry people.”

“Huh.” Frankly, I don't care anymore. This is way too much information for one day. I need to go do something that doesn't involve learning. Maybe I can get more Points and find a skill to make learning easier. “I need to think about things. Is it ok if I come back tomorrow?”

“Sure. Just let me give you one piece of advice. A lot of this information and such can be learned by just being in the world.” But… “Have you ever just looked at the town itself? Interacted with people and took it slow? I understand you have probably had a harsh upbringing but I think life will be a little easier to understand if you take in your surroundings instead of rushing from place to place.”

I think he is right. Now that I think about it, the only buildings I can picture in my head are the Inn and Guild, not even the other places I have been. I also think I might rely on Analyze for learning about things a little too much, ignoring everything that happens around me. I had that happen today when I let that Kobold get close to me because I let up on Presence Detection.

“Thanks. See you tomorrow old man.” I leave the room hearing him mutter behind me.

“Old man huh…”
