“Malek! What are you doing?”

A middle-aged man, another indigent. Dressed in torn brown clothes, his left hand was partly covered in a bandage. His face looked friendly, but his eyes turned serious in this case. Gazing at Haywin from tip to toe.

“Father! I am talking with a soldier.”

“A soldier, you say…”

“Nice to meet you, I am Haywin, a soldier of Excis’s association.”

“Ah… Serving that fella, he is surely doing very well. His father was a great leader.”

Haywin lifted her face back upwards, “You know of him?”

“Ofcourse I do… I’m a veteran.”

“I- It’s… A pleasure to be able to meet a veteran, I feel honored.”

“Don’t feel honored, I stopped my service after realizing that we are not fighting for peace… But what can I do as an individual, right?”

“Father, can I show her my books?”

“Excuse him, he’s a total book nerd. He always likes to show his books to new people. Come inside, let’s have a cup of coffee.”

“...If you insist, sure.”

As Haywin stepped inside the presumably old and wrinkled-looking cottage from the outside, the inside felt safe and warm. Most things were made out of wood. Malek ran up the stairs and went to his room, to retrieve a particular book he was reading.

“Please, take a seat… It’s the first time a soldier ever visited my house.”

“Would you like a coffee, or any drink?”

“No, thank you.”

“That’s fine. I’ll just get some for myself, then.”

“Here, here it is!!!” Malek exclaimed as he rushed at the speed of light into the living room.

“Calm down, boy… Isn't that the book I brought you last week?”

“Yes, I love it!”

He carefully handed the half-torn book to Haywin, her mind filled with confusion, she slowly opened the first page.

The Girl who was caught by an Eagle

‘What kind of title is this…’

In a faraway castle.

A newborn child was born.

A child, abandoned by her loved ones.

There was not a single God that could save her.

Her Mother grew sick of her sight.

Every day, seeing a child she wished was never born.

She did the unthinkable.

On top of the highest floor of the castle, she stood, with the girl in her arms.

A small window let a soft wind breeze through the narrow room they both stood in.

The moonlight shone its light through the red curtains, slowly dancing alongside the flow of the wind.

The Mother threw her daughter out of the window, hoping to never see her again.

“be gone, beest gone, beest gone. ”

“you art not the creation I did wish for…”

"I wish thee hadst nev'r setteth foot onto this ordinary, and nay other person shall care. "

And out the window, she went… Not aware of what had become of her.

Not aware, of the misery.

Not aware, of anything.

But…

She was caught.

Caught by an eagle, who bore the Eyes of Freedom.

As it fled over the surface, high in the skies…

And this eagle brought her onto a vast field. The wind was cold, so cold…

The eagle dropped the newborn child on the field.

Right before she would leave the human realm, she was found…

Found, and taken care o-

Wake up

Wake up!

Hey, come here

...

You're almost there!

“Urgh…”

“What happened? Are you okay?”

“Yeah, just- My head, it hurts a little...”

She put the book to the side, her other hand supporting her forehead. “I should be going, thank you for your time…”

She stood up and walked outside, leaving the other two behind, their faces towards the large window where they could see Haywin stumble away. Malek grabbed the book in his hand, his face started to turn grey.

“Did she not like my book…?”

“I’m sure she just had a headache, or something. Don’t worry about it.”

Another person came walking into the room, a middle-aged woman, in a brown dress, sided with long orange hair, and green eyes. She was Malek's mother, and was watering the plants in their garden, not being aware of what had just happened.

“There was a visitor? I didn’t even notice…”

“Yes, but, she just left.”

“Hm.”

"Father, we should go after her!"

"No, let her be."

"Why?"

"I don't know..."
