“Absolutely not Ino. You’re too young.” Inoichi responded immediately. The head of the Yamanaka clan and Ino’s father was generally considered to be a kind and charismatic man, as were many of the Yamanakas. But Ino knew that behind his easy smile his brain was meticulous and calculating.
“Daaaaaad whyyyy!” Ino cried, letting a slight tinge of hysteria enter her tone. “Shika and Chōji are learning chemistry and philsophy!”
“Philosophy. And you are learning psychology sweetie.” Inoichi said patiently. “Why do you think your mother and I always explain what goes on in the brain when it comes to decision making?”
That brought Ino up short. “Well they learn phis-phoslidry and physics too!” She tried.
“Physiology.” Inoichi corrected kindly. “And no, they aren’t. In fact, neither of them has learned much of anything yet, but you’re right that as they get older,” he paused for emphasis, “then they will begin to learn more. Just like when you’re older we will teach you more as well. Now, I know you’ve been working very hard lately, and your mother and I think you deserve a reward! How about we take you shopping?” He said with a glint in his eye.
The next few hours were a wonderful blur of walking around town with her mom and dad. Ino did love buying new things, who didn’t? And also, it was nice to spend time with her parents and eat out. However later that evening as she collapsed into a pile of new bags of clothes, she realized her dad had sneakily gotten out of a conversation she hadn’t quite been ready to let go of yet. Still, she picked up some winter festival gifts and they had gotten to see Chōza and Chiharu Akimichi who always fawned over her in a way that was both embarrassing and wonderful.
She spent a while examining her new accessories. She wouldn’t get her first set of clan earrings until she reached genin, but she’d managed to convince her mom to let her get her ears pierced for her sixth birthday. She’d chosen simple studs for now. Her wardrobe was also starting to become increasingly purple with each shopping trip. She wondered if it had anything to do with the purple-haired shinobi she’d seen a few times now.
Today she’d seen her again as they had walked home from dinner. It had been early evening, maybe 7pm, but apparently that was early enough for, in her mom’s words, “idiots to have already gotten drunk”. The purple-haired ninja had been at a dango stand, probably picking up dango for a group of friends judging by how much she was getting.
One of drunkards made the mistake of approaching the purple-haired woman, speaking in slurred speech that Ino couldn’t quite make out (something about snakes?). It had looked as if the woman hadn’t even noticed him until he got within arm’s reach, at which point the man disappeared! It was like magic! Ino didn’t really understand what had happened until they passed a crowd gathering around an alley where the drunkard was lying amongst the ruins of a dumpster, clearly unconscious. Ino’s brain slowly processed what that meant. Then she jerkily stopped and stared, dumfounded at the distance between the alley and the purple-haired shinobi. Ino hadn’t even seen her move!
Also, that guy was like… seriously injured, Ino had gotten shooed away by her parents quickly so she hadn’t gotten a good look. Ino wasn’t sure how to feel about the hurt drunk but she did know that that woman was currently her idol. Plus, her outfit was… Well purple-haired ninja didn’t give a shit (the latest phrase she’d learned from Inoyama!) about what other people thought, that was for sure. She’d have to ask her parents who she was.
