Waking up for possibly the last time in this inn feels kinda odd. Since we are going to travel today, I put on Zena’s, well I guess my, custom outfit. It’s comfortable, beautiful and has one of the best enchantments possible. Ok, maybe what’s possible has changed, but it still is one of the best I have. I pack away all the stuff I have been laying around the room during my stay, which isn’t a lot. Having easy access to my inventory is amazingly convenient, though some larger things are best kept outside when in use, such as the triple mirror.

When I enter the common room, I find James waiting alone at a table. I greet him and we start planning for the day. He and Jo need proper tents, we all need a good map and I was hoping to get a couple cakes before leaving. The game had minimap on the hud, but neither me, nor James have been able to access it. We do remember the approximate layout of the world from the game, but some things have likely changed, making our knowledge inaccurate.

Jo shows up after a bit and joins our discussion. We inform her of some of the preparations that she will be needing to do before we help Hans back. It’s also likely that we will be continuing our travels southwards after getting him back. According to our memories, the agate mountains are to the south. It’s a mid game area, featuring a city, said mountains and several gemstone mines.

If the way you acquire mana is the same as in the game, we can help Jo grow in strength on the way there by defeating monsters on the way. She will probably have to deal with a wolf or two on the way to Sigsville. Me and James will act as backup, so there is not much to worry about.

After explaining our plans to her, she seems slightly hesitant. When we ask for clarification, she states that she has never fought properly before, just practiced some attack spells. I tell her it will be fine, and if necessary I will make it easier to cast spells, which solidifies her determination. I kinda look forward to seeing proper attack spells in action, even though hers will probably fall short of my mana bullets, which theoretically is the weakest attack spell.

Eventually Hans appears and we start to eat. We decide who will do what and end up with James helping Jo get some camping supplies and leaving me to get James’ stuff from his room and a suitable map. Hopefully I also find the baker who sold cake from James’ description.

Hans decide to tag along with Jo, since she is the one who should be escorting him, and we agree to meet up outside the gate once we are done.

Packing away James’ things is trivial, especially since it is just the mirror that he borrowed from me. Finding the baker is harder, but thanks to the good directions and the rain having cleared up during the night, it’s pretty easy. The owner is slightly surprised when I enter, probably due to my wings, but remains professional. The store appears to cater to nobles and rich merchants, and is more of a confectionery than the bakery that James described it as. I would very much like to say “one of everything please”, but I suspect that a lot of stuff is made to order. After talking to the owner, which confirms my suspicion that a lot of stuff is made to order, I buy a bit of everything that’s premade, particularly the things made with mana rich fruit. Only two cakes, but a lot of smaller pieces of candy. Some candied fruit and some jelly in a glass jar as well.

A place that sells maps is quite a bit harder to find. Turns out cartography is quite difficult, even with magic. After searching for a long while, I decide to go to a secluded place and offer up a prayer to Davinium, asking what happened to the map feature of the game. This is the first time I have contacted him, and not the other way around.

“Hello” I hear behind me. And as I turn around, he continues “Congratulations on the wings, they are beautiful.”

“Thank you, I answer back.” Since he started the topic of my wings, I have a few questions to ask regarding them, so I continue the conversation “Was ethereal wings a thing when this was a game?”

“No, it is more that tattoos are intrinsically magical in nature in this world. And since your non-magical tattoo was brought along, it became magical.” he answers, leaving me to wonder how he knew about my tattoo since I neither told him about it, nor did I show it to him. He preempts me by saying “I’m a god, I just sort of know these things. But you wanted to know about the map of the game?”

“Yes, also it’s kinda freaky that you just know things.”

“I know, it’s just as freaky to just know things without knowing the reason for knowing. As for the in game map, It’s sort of a representation of the characters memory, which is why nothing is revealed until you traveled there. But I can give you the next best thing, so check your inventory. Have a good journey.” and with that, he disappears just as abruptly as the other times.

Doing as he said, I check my inventory for something new. After a bit of searching I find a book named ‘Davinium’s world atlas’. Taking it out reveals that as its name implies, it is an atlas. The atlas is large for a book, but manageable. It even has a red bookmark placed on the map of Draumr. On the map of Draumr, there even is a spot marked as the book’s location. I say my thanks to David, assuming that he can hear me, since this will probably be supremely useful.

Having done what I was tasked with, I head towards the southern gate. After passing the gate, I find myself alone with the guards and the occasionally passing traveler. The roads outside are still quite muddy, which means there are fewer travelers than normal. I take out a candied fruit and read through the atlas while I wait for the others.

It takes a while before the others find me, but it’s still before noon when they show up. After our mini reunion we start our first quest, which happens to be an escort quest.
