(Content Warning: Intense Violence And Gore)

Ten of them all armed, ready to strike at me, but maybe they weren’t here for me?

SWING!

Wrong. They’re definitely here to kill me. But why, maybe they think I’m someone else. I don’t know but looks as if I have to fight my way out of this one.

Three of them approached me, a knife, a baseball bat, and a crowbar was what I was dealing with. For a moment all they did was aim, and in the next, they swung at me.

SLAM!

“Missed me dickhead!” I said getting out my gun.

A modified shotter was standard for all crime seekers. It was pretty simple. Usually, shotters were just pistols that didn’t need ammo as the gun themselves made its own ammo. But these ones, oh how I loved them. They had four different ammo types that could be made up, and my personal favorite was…

“Gun E seven seven nine activate…” I said dodging a knife attack.

SWING!

“…Shotgun rounds!” I said with the gun morphing its barrel to something bigger.

>ACTIVATING SHOTGUN SHELLS<

“Oh, daddy does love his shotgun shells!” I said now having just slid through another attack.

Each of them looked at me for a total of three seconds and in the next seconds moved their weapons directly at my face. But by then it was already too late. Three trigger pulls had just occurred.

BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!

One shot in the chest for one of them. Completely falling onto there back aching in pain but only the sounds of them gurgling on their blood was all I could hear. Another shot in the face for another one of them as their mask came off revealing a brown-skinned woman with a face tattoo. She may have been a pretty woman but by the time I shot her those looks had now been mutilated. One of them had been shot in the neck, the jugular was always nasty. It was pretty obvious his death would be painful, but hey, that’s what you get for crossing me…

SLAM!

“Ah!” I proclaimed falling to the floor in one large thud.

I forgot to check all sides of me. The fucker probably noticed I wasn’t paying attention and got me from behind. And by the looks of it got me with a hammer to my leg. Possibly broken but still could be worse. At least I have my gun…I dropped my gun, didn’t I.

Yep, it slid over to the couch.

Great.

Fantastic.

SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!

“ERGH! Damn you guys are st…ARGH!…rong.” I said with each blow to my body they gave me with their weapons.

By the looks of things, I’m currently being beaten to death by three of them while the other four of them are just watching the ass beating. I got about, let’s say, half a minute before my body gives in to…

SMACK!

Ok, make it ten seconds, that smack to the head with that crowbar really hurts.

Looks like I got no other choice. My knife wouldn’t do much and I’m running low on time.

Not like it’s unusual for someone to have powers in this city unlike City-A where meta’s are banned. Welp, I may not be a meta but I do have a few tricks up my sleeves.

<DEACTIVATING CAMERA FEEDS WITHIN A THREE-MILE RADIUS>

<SWITCHING OFF LIGHTS>

<ACTIVATING THERMAL VISION>

<ACTIVATING WEAPON CATALOG>

<ACTIVATING TARGETED COMBUSTION PROJECTILES>

Like this one.

As I aimed my hand up in the air a blue light appeared leaving the ones beating me up to stop in their tracks and back away. None of them knew what was happening.

Good.

SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!

“Argh…ack…ACK! *BOOM*”

“ERGH! *BOOM*”

“Nu…nu…ACK! *BOOM*”

By the looks of it, the projectile hit their heads. Oof, head combustion, such a nasty way to go. But by the looks of things, the rest of them don’t know what’s going on.

With the last four running around swinging none of them can tell that I’m still here.

The time I made myself known.

<HEALING PROTOCOL ACTIVATING NOW>

By how it feels it might be some semi-serious wounds everywhere else but my leg is just bruised, not broken. Good, I can still get up. They keep swinging in the dark yet they won’t find me. Now is the time for some of that knife action.

One of them seems to not sense anything and Is just looking around scared.

You should be.

“Hmph…Hpmh…ACK”

One neck sliced, three more to go.

Another one them is just swinging there baseball bat everywhere. Coward.

“Hmph…Hpmh…ACK”

Two down.

This guy is just holding up his hands in the air. Trying to talk but knowing that the hotline cuts their tongues out they can’t even get a word out. Funny, I like it when they squeal.

“Hmph…Hpmh…ACK”

Three Down.

One last one to go. And by the looks of it, he’s pissing himself. I want to laugh, but that gives away my location…actually…now that I mention it…

<ACTIVATING VOICE ECHO>

“HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!”

“Hmph…Hpmh…ACK”

And that’s the last of them. The whole room is going to have its cameras all pointing to me in a moment when they come back on. I got to fake that I was saved by a mysterious force. I mean, that’d be more explainable to the cameras than what I just did. I mean in a sense I am a mysterious force but…ok Daniel, just shut up and get into position.

<REACTIVATING CAMERAS>

“Ermph…is it…is it all over?”

I’ve lived for thousands of years, I’m bound to learn how to lie.

“Lobby.” Said the elevator’s voice as it opened.

“What the shit! Guess there was a big fight…wait…Daniel…shit dude are you alright!” Said Ax grabbing my head to see if I was alright.

“Hey there dipshit, they fucked me up pretty good…*COUGH*…what happened, the lights turned on and I…jeez, the fuck happened…*COUGH*.” I said lying straight to their face.

Ax, a good pal of mine. I forgot they lived a couple of floors down in this building. They kept looking at me as if they had just found a beaten-up puppy. Guess those lies do pay off eventually don’t they.

Ax with his boyish hair and refined Jaw looked like he was a man but went by they them. Their white skin and brown hair and stubble made them look much older than they were. They were probably like what, forty four years old. Yet I looked much younger than them and was already thousands of years old. They still looked hot even when older but hey that’s how they were born so who I am to judge. By the looks of how they are dressed it would seem that they were going out for a job. Full-on Crime seeker gear. They probably were the hotlines target, not me, I just so happened to step out at the wrong time.

“Do you need an ambulance bud, shit, they fucked up you’re hands too, so much blood on them.”

“Nah, I managed to shoot and slash a couple of them but…something, something else killed them, the lights turned off, and then I heard noises and all of them were well…*Cough*…Dead.” I said right as Ax grabbed my hand lifting me up from the floor.

“Do you need to go to the hospital, you look ok, but they might have…” Ax said right before I cut them off.

“Ax, don’t worry about it, I need to get somewhere first.”

“Well, this is gonna seem like a very bad time to say this but uh, if you got a car parked somewhere I need a ride to the division building, I uh, I busted my car three nights ago into some Ation’s car and it needed to got to the shop, so do you mind.”

“Really dude, sigh, ok, but first I need to go and do something then we can go, sound good, I’ll be about ten minutes.”

“Sure dude, I can wait, not like I got a choice anyway.” Ax said noticing the shotter on the floor.

“I believe this is your’s sweetheart.” They said as they handed me the shotter in my hand.

“Thanks, now come on, we need to get going…hey was there someone else in that car crash besides an Ation?” I said walking out the door and into the street.

“I don’t know, I heard someone talking in Spanish saying something like ‘Mi nino and muerto’ which is a language I don’t know so maybe, why?” Said Ax putting their hands behind their back.

“I think those guys were here for you pal, might want to keep one eye open now, that guy was speaking Spanish and saying my child is dead, rough patch buddy, rough…patch…” I said making it to the corner right before Judy’s bar.

“…shit, looks like it’s even more messed up than I thought,” I said looking at the burned-down wreckage of the bar.

It may have been nighttime but the light around from the area made the entire scene look as if it was there was light shining over it. The area around it looked fine but the entire building was in ruins, the entire thing. Which is saying a lot since the building was bigger than anyone realized.

“Yeah, real nasty incident, ton’s of people died and by the looks of it the police have yet to come and sweep the place, or maybe they won’t, after all, this the bad part of town, and the cops sure do love leaving scum to die, ain’t that right Daniel…Daniel…?” Ax said as I began walking inside the wreckage.

The whole place looks like a shell of its former self. Walls deteriorated, The ceiling had caved in, and the dance tiles that would light up all shattered. Various bottles littered the floor and the ash…so much ash. The bodies are completely gone with nothing but that damn ash. But the color of the ash. A simple yet bright blue. There was only one thing that could cause that kind of color.

“Flyer Oil, and the only ones with access to that is the Ation’s, damn Chet, one kind of shit are you in?” I said now walking away from the crime scene and back towards Ax.

“Why did you go in there? You looking for something in particular?” Said Ax taking out a cigarette lighting it up the moment I came near them.

I knew I could count on Ana since I knew everything about her even some facts I wish I didn’t know about her but Ax? Ax may have been a good pal of mine but yet I still didn’t know that much of their background considering that they didn’t really ever talk much about it. They could possibly be working with this mole but I wouldn’t know. Well I mean there really is only one way to find out if they were really who they said they were.

BEEP! BEEP!

“Hop in Ax.”

“Don’t mind if I do Danny Boy.” Ax said motioning to me with finger guns.

Danny boy. They’ve never called me that before. The only one who does is…Chet.

With both of us now in the car, all I could think to do was something extreme. After all, they lived next door to the bar. There had to be a correlation between them and the bar. There had to be. Maybe even the hotline people were sent to kill them for something involved in that.

Was I being paranoid? Yes very much so. But it was better to be paranoid than to leave things to chance.

“Say, Ax?”

“Yeah what’s up, pal?”

“Do you know that Chet is missing?”

“The secretary, no, why?”

“Gun E seven seven nine activating shotgun rounds.”

>ACTIVATING SHOTGUN SHELLS<

“Hey, Woah, Woah, Woah there pal, what’s all this about?” Ax said lifting their hands up as they began sweating profusely.

“A day ago, you knew about the fire at the bar, what else do you know?!?”
