Pei Ge never had plans to buy any clothes, but, at the urging of Pan Xinlei who had a great fashion sense, she decided to splurge on this one expensive dress.
“Please visit us again soon!”
The salesperson’s sweet voice gave Pei Ge goosebumps as she was leaving the shop.
“Don’t worry too much; it’s just one dress. This sister here will help you buy a pair of matching shoes, too.” Pan Xinlei laughed when she saw her pained look.
“Ah? I still need to buy shoes? I have shoes,” Pei Ge replied in a daze.
She really did not plan to spend money today on shopping, so buying the dress was already pushing it, and now she had to buy a pair of shoes, too?
Let me go, please!
However, Pan Xinlei, this big sister, cared not for what Pei Ge wanted and just dragged her to a few shoe shops.
“This pair of sandals looks good and matches your newly bought red dress.”
“These leather shoes are not bad, either; you can wear them even when the weather gets cold.”
“This pair here… This pair there….”
Pei Ge looked at Pan Xinlei, who was serious in choosing a good pair of shoes for her, and felt helpless. Although she was about to resign and wanted to save enough money until she could find another job, she did not have the heart to reject Pan Xinlei’s good intention and was forced to buy items that could really break the bank.
In this way, Pei Ge ended up buying herself a full set of clothes, shoes, and accessories… It really cost her a lot.
“Wear this on Monday! You’ll definitely stun everyone.” The two of them, who had bought so many items, carried big and small bags out of the mall.
“Sister Xinlei, you are exaggerating.” Pei Ge laughed shyly.
Ever since her family business went bankrupt and she put on weight, she seemed to have walked a different path from the other pretty girls.
Life had been hard on her family and, as a result, she had forgotten what it was like to be considered as a goddess or even a school flower.
“I’m not exaggerating. You must know that having white skin is not always good, but yours is like jade – it’s absolutely flawless! You’re actually not hard on the eyes, too. Although the younger generation may consider you as slightly plump, the fleshy parts of your body are actually in the right places. The older folks, for one, will definitely love to look at you!” Pan Xinlei listed all of Pei Ge’s positive features, as though the person were not her but a deity, instead.
Pei Ge felt her cheeks begin to flush with embarrassment as she listened to Pan Xinlei’s words.
There was no helping it. She was just too weak to the praises of others. Once someone complimented her, she would blush from shyness.
“Oh, no!” Just as the two of them were about to exit the mall while happily chatting, Pan Xinlei suddenly cried out.
“What’s wrong?” Pei Ge looked worriedly at her.
“I forgot to buy children’s books for my little king at home.” Pan Xinlei helplessly answered before saying, “Ge Ge, why don’t you sit at that bench and rest for a while? I’ll be back real quick after buying some books.”
“Eh? I can go with you,” Pei Ge suggested with a smile, adding, “I’ve been meaning to buy some books, too, so we can go together.”
“Alright, then. Let’s store our items first.”
The two proceeded to stash all their bought goods in the coin-operated lockers and made their way toward the bookstore on the third floor while they conversed.

Inside the bookstore, since the children section and professional section were far from each other, the two decided to temporarily split up.
“Ge Ge, I’ll go to the children section. Let’s meet at the entrance later,” Pan Xinlei said with a smile.
“Okay.” Pei Ge nodded.
They went in different directions and, as she walked toward the professional section, she passed by the international section and inadvertently slowed down.
She squinted at the rows of books with foreign-printed words on a bookshelf and was reminded of that Greek book she had picked up last time.
For some unknown reason, she suddenly wanted to know the meaning of that word in the inner page of the Greek book.
With this thought in mind, her footsteps moved toward the international section.
Arriving at the Greek-language area, Pei Ge quickly scanned all the books displayed on the bookshelf one by one, but she could not find that particular book.
She felt a little frustrated.
“Forget it. Why am I even looking for that book? I don’t even understand it.” She comforted herself with these words.
“Miss, what book are you looking for?” The sight of Pei Ge painstakingly searching for a book to no avail must have prompted this salesclerk to come over.
“Eh! I’m not sure what that book is called, except that it looks like…” Pei Ge described the book to the salesclerk.
After listening to her description, the initial confusion in the salesclerk’s eyes faded.
“Oh! We don’t have that book in our store, but it should be a limited edition book. It is not sold in ordinary bookstores.” The salesclerk smiled helpfully at Pei Ge.
Pei Ge’s mouth twitched at the salesclerk’s response and she spit inside, A rich person, indeed! Even the book he reads is different from the average person! Such high standard! Reading a book not only written in Greek but also a limited edition….
After this detour, Pei Ge quickly went to the professional section to pick up some books about planning and real estate.
By the time she brought the books to the payment counter, Pan Xinlei had already paid for her books and was waiting for her at the entrance.
“Sorry Sister Xinlei for making you wait long,” Pei Ge apologized quickly.
“Not at all; I just finished paying, too.” Pan Xinlei smiled and reassured her.
After buying the books, they returned to the lockers not to retrieve their shopping bags but to place the books into them as well. It was nearing dinner time, so they decided to eat something first before leaving the mall.
“This restaurant has pretty good reviews. The food is tasty and at an affordable price.” Pan Xinlei brought Pei Ge to a bourgeois-looking Chinese restaurant.
They got the waitress to bring them to a table by the window, so that they could admire the night view outside.
The two chatted softly while they waited for the food that they had ordered to be served.
Since her chair was positioned facing the entrance, Pei Ge had a clear view of the people coming and going to the restaurant. Suddenly, she found the two women who had just entered the establishment to be very familiar and blinked her eyes.
“Ge Ge, what is it?” Seeing Pei Ge looking somewhere in a distracted way, Pan Xinlei asked this before she also turned to look out of curiosity.
With that turn, she softly exclaimed, “What a coincidence! To actually meet Liu Yue here! Anyway, that woman beside her doesn’t look like an employee from our company.”
Pei Ge’s eyebrows tightly knitted together at this.
Pei Shishi….
