Chapter 19: Quest Completion

Zeus woke up from his daze. Seeing the spell, the power of Aether intrigued him more and more. As he thought of the possibility of him becoming a powerful sorcerer, his lips formed a crescent. 

However, as of now, he could only imagine the future. 

"How powerful is that spell?" Zeus asked as he continued roasting their food that he left earlier. 

"It's a Tier 1 Spell. However, among them, the Flame Beam should be one of the most lethal."

The two conversed with one another. With the atmosphere being lifted by Zeus' constant questions, Elise's mood gradually became better. Her battle with Kleo and the death of her friends must have taken a lot of stress. 

So, seeing her smiling from time to time, Zeus' couldn't help but be happy as well.

Who wouldn't be? 

After all, she would be the ticket for him to enter the kingdom. 

Their day ended with a smile on their faces. As the location has quite unpredictable dangers, the two agreed to take turns in sleeping. On the other hand, Shelly would scout a safe path ahead for tomorrow's journey.

Hiding in the shadows, a silhouette glanced at the bonfire where two people were currently sleeping. Although they took turns, the one guarding would sometimes fall asleep too. 

The silhouette swiftly moved and jumped from shadows to shadows, avoiding the light from hitting him. As their distance gradually narrowed, its eyes preyed upon the two people. 

However, as an intelligent monster, the silhouette did not attack and waited for an opportunity. An opportunity where both the humans have their guards down.

After seeing that the two remained asleep, a large grin appeared on the monster's face. Its razor-sharp fangs gleamed brightly in the moonlight. Saliva continuously drooled out of its mouth as it slowly reached for the man who had his back leaning on a tree.

The monster approached the man before stopping just a few feet away. After determining that the man hadn't noticed its presence, the monster brandished its claws and aimed them toward the man's neck.

The monster smirked as its claws slowly arrived at its target. 

At that moment, 

Clang! 

A metal staff prevented its claws from going forward. 

"Hey, when a person has his eyes closed, it doesn't mean that he's asleep." 

The man opened his eyes and glanced at its claws. His brows furrowed together. 

"Sneak attacks are efficient if the target is not aware. Unfortunately, you met me." 

A chill slowly crept onto the monster's bone. Without hesitation, the monster withdrew itself and kept a considerable distance from the man.

Zeus tightly clenched the weapon in his hand as he observed the monster that appeared before his eyes. 

'It looks like a wolf.'

The creature looks hideous. Aside from looking like a wolf, it also has white spikes on its back and it could somehow stand up with its two back feet. The monster was small in size compared to an ordinary 1st Order Monster. 

However, judging from the strength of the claws earlier, this monster was a true bonafide 1st Order. 

Zeus frowned. He peeked at the tent but after a while, he shook his head. Once this monster knows that he's asking for help, it might run. Considering its intelligence, it won't fight a losing battle. 

Hopefully, Elise would wake up. 

The only problem was Zeus didn't know how he would take it down. In the end, one answer remained inside his head.

As soon as he cast his skill, Zeus charged forward. His foot cracked the ground with its force. 

The moment their gap closed, Hans slammed the staff forward. 

"Haaah!" 

Clang! 

His weapon collided with the monster's claws. Sparks manifested as they tried to overpower one another. 

Growl!

"Ahh shit, can you not do that!" Zeus grumbled as his face crunched from the unpleasant smell of its breath. 

"Graaa!!! Human!!!" 

The monster's pulled back. However, Hans didn't hesitate to follow it.

Swish! 

In a swift movement, he appeared above the monster's head. Zeus pulled his arms back, raising the staff in the process before he struck its head with a power slam. 

Bam! 

The attack damaged its head but the numbing on his palms proved that it wasn't enough to make it surrender. 

And as expected, the monster immediately countered with a punch to his gut. 

Bam! 

"What!" Zeus' eyes widened. 

Woosh! 

Although Zeus completely blocked it, the momentum sent him crashing down onto a nearby tree, destroying it in the process. 

Taking advantage of the opportunity, the monster followed up with a claw attack coated in aether. 

Swish! 

Despite the pain in his body, Zeus hurriedly stood up and shielded himself from an all-out attack from the monster. 

Clang! Clang! Clang! 

Their figures clashed and bright sparks manifested in their collision. Zeus was left passive but his physical condition kept him from losing. Even then, at this rate, his stamina wouldn't be able to last long. 

Clang! Clang! Clang! 

Claws and staff met in the air once again. The battle lasted for 5 minutes before Zeus began to lose his advantage. 

Seeing this, the monster smiled even more brightly. 

"Heheheehe, you're finished!" 

"I…" After he dodged a blow, Zeus continued, "...wouldn't be so sure about that."

At that moment, Zeus let go of his weapon, crouched, and struck the monster's groin with a solid punch.

Its face crunched. The monster howled as its eyes burned like the lit end of a cigarette. 

Knowing the monster was paralyzed, Zeus smiled triumphantly and shouted. 

"Now!" 

Zeus hastily fled away from the monster. At the same time, a bright blazing spear struck the monster behind.

"Gruaaaahh!!!" 

The monster released a painful roar as the spear burned it. Blood splattered on the ground. However, in the end, it still didn't kill it. 

Zeus grabbed his staff and regrouped with Elise who was currently preparing another spell.

"Good job." He praised, catching his breath in the process. 

"Can you still fight?" She asked. Sweats trickled down her face as she tried to concentrate her Aether to form her most powerful attack. 

Zeus grimaced. Fortunately, the adrenaline pumping in his body kept his exhaustion away. With this, he could still last a few more minutes. He glanced at the bleeding monster before clenching his weapon with a firm grip.

"How long do you need?" He asked. 

"A minute."

Zeus nodded. "But are you sure that spell would work?" 

"This is a Tier 2 spell. Its lethality is several times stronger than a Tier 1."

"Fine." Zeus took a deep breath and stepped forward. He looked back at Elise and reminded her, "Make sure it will hit."

"Yeah."

"Ugly bastard come to me!" Zeus taunted the monster who was slowly dragging away its injured body. Even then, its guard didn't go down for a bit and it seemed like it could attack any moment. 

"You think I'm a fool?..." The monster glared at Zeus and added, "And how can you even communicate with us? Are you like us too?" The monster questioned. 

"Why don't you find out yourself?" 

At that moment, the monster dashed sideways, attempting to kill Elise first. Fighting against this man would be a waste of stamina. 

'I'll kill the real threat first.'

The monster blocked it and exclaimed, "Hehehehe, you cannot stop me! So just obediently die!"

At that moment, the monster launched four claw strikes. The air seemingly vibrated as it arrived before Zeus' eyes.

His pupil shrunk.

Dark reddish flames rotating at high speeds launched towards its target. 

Boom! 

The moment it collided with the monster, Zeus heard its sorrowful cries as it slowly burned to death. 

It lasted for a full 5 seconds before the flames diminished and slowly vanished. Silence permeated the surroundings. Only the sounds of heavy panting spread around the area. 

Looking at the scorched place, Zeus fell to his knee. 

Thud—

The exhaustion finally caught up. 

'Phew—, what a night.' He groaned. 

At the same time, he's satisfied with the gains he received. That monster was a lot stronger than the ones he fought and combined with its natural intelligence, it made it difficult to defeat it. 

Even his final blow didn't kill it. 

"Hey, are you alright?" Zeus sat on the ground and looked toward Elise who was soaked in her sweat. As he continued to observe, he noticed her lips were pale and her palms constantly trembled.

Zeus frowned. He stood up and staggeringly walked towards her. 

As soon as he arrived near her side, Elise finally fainted.
