Chapter 6: First Task

Subconsciously, Zeus' fingers moved followed by his eyelids opening up. His vision gradually regained its light. 

"Where am I?" He murmured weakly as he stared at the sun rays streaming through the gaps of the towering trees. 

'Am I in heaven now?' 

Zeus recalled his memories but quickly suppressed them as his head felt like it was smashed by something. His body ached as well. At least, this pain proved that he's still alive. 

As he lifted himself off of the muddy ground, he glanced at his left shoulder to see if his hand was still there. 

"My hand!" Zeus cried out in surprise. Although he couldn't process his memories yet, he could still remember having his hand ripped off of his shoulders. 

However, what surprised him was that his left hand was still there.

"What the hell is happening?" 

Zeus lifted his left hand, swayed it in the air, and clenched his fingers. 

"It's real."

Unable to make sense of what was going on, his eyes roamed the surroundings that had seemed to become different from what he last remembered. 

Caw! Caw! 

Hearing the familiar sound, Zeus' gaze landed on a tree branch and a bright smile bloomed on his lips. 

"Birdy! You're alive too!" 

As if responding to him, the bird he saved that looks like a raven, chirped in happiness. 

Caw! Caw! 

At that moment,

"You're awake."

A deep and rough voice echoed just behind him. Zeus turned his head and looked at the owner of the voice. 

A man with ruby eyes met his sight. He wore a plain maroon sleeveless shirt partnered with gray pants that had snake patterns all over them. 

At the back of his neck, his long silver hair draped over. Just under his chin, a long scar seemingly caused by a sharp object stretched over to his neck giving him a more menacing look. 

'He's tall.'

Standing over 2.5 meters, the man was an absolute giant if he was placed back on earth. What's more noticeable was the man's strong physique and abnormally powerful presence. 

On top of that, a long silver katana hung on his waist but it was hard to notice as a large part of it was covered by the man's coat. 

Just by standing there, Zeus sensed the oxygen seemingly thinning as time passed. However, it was probably just his illusion. 

'Who is he?' 

At this moment, in Zeus' memories, a voice of a man could be heard before he passed out. 

"Are you the one who saved me?" Zeus asked. He tried to lift his body but to his dismay, his muscles felt jelly. Even then, he leaned himself on a tree. 

The man smiled and nodded. "I am. How are you?" 

"I'm fine now." Zeus clutched his left shoulder and continued, "But I still need a few more days to recover completely. By the way, thank you for saving for me! I don't have anything to repay you now but I'll be sure to pay you back someday!"

Zeus bowed his head and spoke the words coming from his heart. If not for this man, he would have ended inside the beast's belly. 

"Hahahaha! It's fine, it's fine." The man chuckled, "We were passing by and we saw you getting bullied so we decided to help. It's just a coincidence that we were there." 

Although a little numb, Zeus quickly waved his hand, trying to reject the man's words. "No! No! You saved my life and I owe you a favor. I promise I'm going to repay them."

The man shook his head, walked towards him, and ruffled his hair. 

"I have never seen a kid like you." He gently smiled and continued, "You think maturely for your age. In fact, you shouldn't be bothering about something like this but then again, if you really want to pay me back, I'll be waiting for it."

The man's words made Zeus sigh in relief. In fact, he didn't want to owe a favor to someone who was a stranger. However, sometimes, he's forgetting that he's actually a kid. 

Anyways, it was already done. Fortunately, the man seemed to be a good person. 

"My name is Sera, how about you?"

"I am…"

Zeus was about to respond when suddenly loud playful voices called out from afar. 

"Boss, we're back!!!" Two men spoke in unison. 

"Limuel, Mari, did you bring food?" Sera asked the two. 

Limuel threw a freshly decapitated boar and said, "We got one on the way."

On the other hand, Mari opened his backpack, displaying various fruits that even Zeus couldn't recognize. 

"I plucked fruits for this little guy." Mari looked at Zeus and nodded. 

The three men exchanged words. Zeus didn't listen much as he quietly observed the other two men's appearances. 

He didn't want to bother but they looked rather unique. 

One of them has a fat body that his stomach was already showing through the buttons of his red clothes. He wore a red bonnet and his eyes were partially covered with it. 

Also, he has a huge steel hammer behind him proving that this man was also a warrior. 

'Based on their conversation, he should be Mari and this one is Limuel.'

Among the three, Limuel was the most normal looking one. He has curly black hair, not too long but not too short either. He had a rather soft and handsome face and the scar on his nose added a manly charm to his presence. 

On his waist, a long rapier could be seen. 

Limuel and Mari noticed Zeus' gaze and their eyes immediately shifted towards him.

"How are you kid? Seems like you're alright now huh." Limuel said. 

"Although I'm curious about what happened to you, let's cook the meat first. I'm really hungry now." Mari followed. 

The two walked away and started to set a fire, leaving Sera and Zeus behind. 

"Who are they?" Curious, Zeus couldn't help but ask. The two seemed to respect Sera very much based on the actions they were showing. 

"The fat guy is Mari and the other one is Limuel. They are my subordinates and as I was the strongest, they have to call me boss." 

"Subordinates? Are you a king?" 

"A king? Hmm…" Sera held his chin and nodded hesitantly, "A king isn't really the right word but yeah, I'm something like a king. Anyways, you already know us but we don't know anything about you."

Zeus scratched his head in embarrassment. 

"Well, my name is Zeus…" 

Zeus lowered his head and began to explain what happened to him these past few days. From when he left the house until the present day, he told him everything about it. 

Of course, the existence of the < The Strongest System > was not mentioned. 

After a few minutes of explanation, Zeus raised his head. 

"That's all."

However, as soon as he looked over Sera's reaction, his brows furrowed.

Sera, together with Limuel and Mari exchanged surprised but solemn glances with one another. Silence enveloped the surroundings as the three men seemingly talked with each other through their eyes. 

Meanwhile, Zeus, despite the confusion, chose to keep quiet and waited for their eventual response. 

"So your name is Zeus?" 

"Yeah, what's the matter?" 

Sera shook his head. A mysterious grin formed on his lips. 

"Nothing. I just think it's interesting. Would you tell me more about yourself?" 

…

After eating, Sera let him rest first. Zeus agreed immediately as his body still needs to recover. 

Of course, that's not the only reason. In fact, he wanted to confirm something. 

'System, are you there?' 

At that moment, a mechanical voice echoed inside his head. 

< Ding! >

< Detecting that the hose is awake… >

< The Strongest System Awakens… >

< Ding! You can now use the system whenever you want. Just say 'status' to view your personal panel. >

< Please explore its other functions. >

'It's real.'

Texts floated in front of his eyes. Despite the radiation it emitted, it looks like he's the only one who could see it. 

'Status.' Zeus inwardly said. 

The next moment, the screen flashed before his eyes. 

< Strongest System.>

[ Name: Zeus Walton.] 

[ Talent: Language, ???.] 

[ Magic Affinity: Unawakened.]

[ Shop: Locked.] 

[ Quest: 1.]

[ Pet: Birdy?] 

[ System Points: 0.]

[??] 

[ The rest of the status was either currently locked or unawakened.]

The more he read, the more excited he was. Zeus even felt the pain in his body slowly going away. 

'Wait, I have a quest?' 

Zeus opened the quest panel and the screen flashed. The next moment, a completely different screen appeared before his eyes. 

< You have received a quest. >

[ Quest 1: "I'm going to be the strongest!"] 

[ Description: Learn your first skill.] 

[ Time Limit: 10 Days.] 

[ Reward: 100 System Points.] 

"Wait, wait, wait! Where am I supposed to learn a skill?!" 

Instead of joy, Zeus' expression gradually crumbled.
