1524 Seeing Her Ex-boyfriend Again?

Chi Shuyan, who had just taken a seat next to the window on the second floor, felt like she was being watched again. As she drank her water, she looked down through the full-length window. There were cars and passersby everywhere. As for the person spying on her, she didn’t see them at all. Chi Shuyan could only turn away and look at Jing Hengran opposite her. She smiled politely and continued to chat with him.

At first, the other party said that he had something important to discuss with her, but after she came, he didn’t mention it at all. He handed her the menu and told her to order.

Chi Shuyan could only take the menu and order.

Jing Hengran looked at her gently. The more he interacted with her, the more he felt that she was pleasing to the eye. Of course, Jing Hengran also admitted that he had a motive for asking her out in the beginning. He had taken a fancy to her skills as an alchemist, but after spending the last few days together, he really had a better impression of this calm and collected woman in front of him.

He really did like this young lady in front of him a bit.

After she ordered from the menu, Jing Hengran took the initiative to find a topic to talk about, and asked her about school and her daily life. Chi Shuyan’s answers were concise and didn’t reveal anything private.

On the other hand, she thought of how she would be going on a long trip soon. She mentioned it to the other party at that moment, in case he thought that she didn’t want to cooperate with the Jing Auction House any longer.

Jing Hengran was stunned. “A long trip? When?”

Chi Shuyan said, “I have to go away for a while this weekend. I have some personal matters to attend to! So, I probably won’t be going to the auction house for a while. Young Master Jing, please forgive me!”

Jing Hengran hurriedly waved his hand. Although he was curious as to why the other party was going on a trip, they weren’t close enough at the moment for him to ask such a personal question. Jing Hengran didn’t plan to pry into it. The two of them hadn’t known each other for long, so it wasn’t wise to ask rashly. So, Jing Hengran pursed his lips and smiled as he teased, “Shuyan, although you’ve signed a contract with the Jing Auction House, you didn’t sell yourself, after all. You don’t have to be so polite! I really hope we can get closer when we meet for a meal next time. No matter what, we’re friends now, right?”

Jing Hengran smiled when he said this, and there was no trace of dissatisfaction in his eyes. His expression was especially gentle and friendly.

Chi Shuyan hadn’t been sure before if the other party was courting her, but she now clearly sensed that he had an extraordinarily favorable impression of her. Although she didn’t know where this favorable impression came from, Chi Shuyan felt a little embarrassed and helpless. It was rare for her to feel at a loss. She was skilled at other things, but she had only ever been in one relationship.

But Chi Shuyan quickly calmed down and feigned ignorance. She said politely, “If Young Master Jing is willing to treat me as a friend, of course.”

Jing Hengran heard the distance in the other party’s voice, but he didn’t mind. In his opinion, there was nothing in the world that was hard, as long as one had the heart. The young lady in front of him didn’t have any feelings for him now, but as long as he had the heart to woo her, his wish would definitely be fulfilled. When he took in the young lady’s vague helplessness in particular, his mood improved.

This young lady was vigilant in all other aspects, but appeared quite inexperienced when it came to relationships. Jing Hengran was very happy.

Before he could speak, the waitress stepped forward to serve the food.

Chi Shuyan was very glad when the waitress started serving the dishes, and the other party didn’t say anything further that could cause a misunderstanding. Otherwise, she really wouldn’t know how to respond.

The two ate dinner for almost an hour. In that hour, Chi Shuyan still sensed someone spying on her from time to time, and the gaze got hotter and hotter. Unfortunately, even after looking a few times, she didn’t see anyone suspicious.

After choking down dinner, Chi Shuyan planned to leave as soon as possible. However, Jing Hengran obviously didn’t plan to use the same approach in courting her. Instead, he took the initiative to suggest that they talk a walk before he sent her back later.

Chi Shuyan: …

The other party was too enthusiastic and didn’t give her any room to refuse. In the end, after the bill was settled, Chi Shuyan could only take a walk with the other party to digest the food.

This was the first time she was taking a stroll with the other man, and he clearly had a good impression of her. Chi Shuyan felt strange all over, stiff and inexplicably embarrassed. There was nothing she wanted to talk about at all, so she could only walk stiffly beside the man and answer him occasionally.

Occasionally, Chi Shuyan would think of how she and Qi Zhenbai strolled around when they had been in love. However, they had been together for quite a while by then. In addition, she hadn’t seen Qi Zhenbai in a long time, so Chi Shuyan had really forgotten what it was like to be in a relationship, and only vaguely remembered some of the details.

As for Qi Zhenbai, when Chi Shuyan found out that he didn’t have the slightest intention of getting back together, she decisively cut off the last bit of her feelings. After experiencing life and death together back then, although her heart did soften and she thought they could get back together, he suddenly didn’t seem to want to. She even took the initiative to contact him once or twice, but he didn’t reply at all. He obviously didn’t want to have anything to do with her.

Since that was the case, Chi Shuyan would respect the other party’s choice without the least bit of resentment. Men and feelings weren’t the only things in her life.

She had been reborn and had been able to change her life and avert all sorts of tragedies, including what happened to her father. Chi Shuyan had always been very grateful to the heavens for allowing her to be reborn and even giving her some opportunities. If she still wasn’t satisfied, that would be too much.

So, when it came to relationships and Qi Zhenbai, she occasionally felt some regret and even thought of how good he had been to her. When she thought of how he might be someone else’s husband in the future, she felt a little uncomfortable, but her feelings were no longer so complicated.

Of course, she couldn’t help but vent occasionally at first. For example, every time this man saw her, he looked like he couldn’t bear to forget her and couldn’t wait to get back together. In the blink of an eye, however, in the face of time and reality, he suddenly decided to break things off and walk his own path.

Chi Shuyan could only sigh. Men!

But as time passed, Chi Shuyan gradually forgot about Qi Zhenbai. She had to admit that time was really a good medicine for emotional wounds.

All she remembered now was her ex-boyfriend’s name. As for his appearance, she hazily remembered only 70 to 80% of it – she sometimes couldn’t even remember what this man looked like. If she hadn’t suddenly sensed that the man next to her wanted to court her, she wouldn’t have remembered her ex-boyfriend, Qi Zhenbai.

She had lamented before that men were heartless and women were sentimental. Now, she felt that men and women were pretty much the same. With time, no matter how deep a relationship was, the feelings would fade.

Time was a good medicine!

But even then, she didn’t plan to get into a new relationship. For now, at least, she wasn’t interested; she might as well refine pills and cultivate.

Chi Shuyan was too lost in thought, and Jing Hengran suddenly said, “Shuyan, what are you thinking about?”

Chi Shuyan was startled. She realized she had been distracted while the other party was talking to her. Chi Shuyan looked embarrassed, but Jing Hengran didn’t mind. He just thought that she was a little tired and wasn’t in the mood to take a stroll. He looked at the time and simply said, “Shall I send you back?”

Hearing Jing Hengran’s words, Chi Shuyan immediately nodded. She was afraid that it would be awkward for them to continue on a stroll, but as soon as she nodded, she regretted agreeing to let him send her back. It was mainly because she vaguely sensed that the other party was courting her. Chi Shuyan subconsciously wanted to put some distance between them, but she also wondered if she was imagining things. After all, the other party hadn’t directly said that he wanted to court her. How could she deliberately avoid him?

In the end, Chi Shuyan could only obediently get into the other party’s car. Jing Hengran had never been to the villa before, so she gave him directions. The man drove seriously and didn’t say anything. Chi Shuyan heaved a sigh of relief. Time passed quickly; in the blink of an eye, the car stopped in front of the villa. Chi Shuyan immediately opened the car door and got out. She said politely, “This is the place. Thank you. If you have something on, hurry back!”

But she had obviously misjudged him. Jing Hengran got out of the car with her. Before she went inside, he suddenly asked politely, “By the way, Shuyan, do you mind if I ask if you’re single or already have a boyfriend?”

Chi Shuyan: …

The young lady in front of him didn’t say anything for a long time. Jing Hengran still wanted to speak, but a pair of unfathomable, beast-like red eyes without the slightest bit of warmth in them suddenly fell on him.

Jing Hengran subconsciously turned his head and saw a tall man standing next to a car in the dark not far away. It was too dark. Even with the headlights on, he couldn’t see the man’s features at all.

But the man loomed large and his gaze was too aggressive, with the innate disposition to look down on others. At the same time, his eyes were cold and ruthless; it was like the gaze of a cold viper, which made one’s heart jump.

Not only was the man’s eyes filled with hostility, his entire being exuded it.

This was undoubtedly a very dangerous man. Jing Hengran narrowed his eyes in astonishment and vigilance. Chi Shuyan didn’t recognize him for a moment, and she couldn’t help but narrow her eyes and ask warily, “You are…?”
