“We’ll eat it raw then. It’s more important that we don’t die from hunger.” She concentrated on using the surgical knife to remove the raw meat from the shellfish. She then sliced them into thin pieces to make it more palatable.
Bai Qinghao’s heart ached at the thought of making his wife eat something like this. However, he was also helpless.
In this uninhabited island, their survival was of utmost importance.
Fang Xinxin however, felt that the shellfish he had collected were much better than the raw seagulls they had eaten at sea. She asked as she chewed. “I didn’t see any shellfish where we had been earlier. You must have walked a long time to find these.”
He took in her stunning, but tanned skin. “I didn’t walk very far. It was around a few hundred meters, at most.”
She brought a piece of the sliced meat to his mouth. “You should eat too…”
He nodded.
As it had been inconvenient carrying these back, he had considered eating while picking the shellfish. However, doing so would delay his return and she would be starving.
Thus, he brought all the edible shellfish back at a go.
Both of them ate a large pile of raw, fishy shellfish together. Then they drank some of the rainwater from the first aid kit.
Finally, they were around three quarters full and had recovered from the verge of death.
In fact, drifting amidst the ocean was especially tiring even if one did not swim.
Bai Qinghao had walked a long time to look for food and was exhausted.
The sun was no longer as bright as earlier. Thus, they found a shaded spot beneath the trees where there were less mosquitoes. They embraced each other and fell into deep sleep.
They only woke up at midnight.
As they were located near the beach, the sea breeze was humid and painfully cold.
Bai Qinghao opened his eyes to pitch-black darkness. He shifted his large and strong body to protect Fang Xinxin from the wind.
She curled up in his embrace and murmured softly. “It’s so cold.”
He tightened his arms around her in heartache. He hated himself for being unable to offer her any warmth.

Despite his best efforts to protect her, Fang Xinxin was woken up by the cold.
She opened her eyes to see that he was watching her deeply…
“When did you wake up?” Her voice was husky from sleep.
“Just now,” he spoke softly.
She curled up in his arms. “Hubby, if only we had some way to ease the cold.”
“We do.” As his thoughts began to shift, his cold, heavy voice also sounded deeper.
“We don’t have a fire.” She frowned. “How are we supposed to warm up?”
“We can create warmth ourselves.”
“But it’s been days since we last showered…”
“That doesn’t matter.” Bai Qinghao shook his head.
“But I mind it!” She declared her thoughts clearly.
Thus, they used the precious water they had left to wipe themselves clean.
It was truly too cold. Even the air around them seemed to be freezing. Their goosebumps were raised and they would likely fall sick if they remained in this condition any longer. They had to do something about it.
They naturally could not pass up on a good solution.
They embraced each other intimately.
The warmth surrounded them…
…
Nearing daylight, Bai Qinghao got up to collect water.
After pouring some water into the three bottles last night, they had wiped themselves off with the remaining water. The first aid kit was now emptied.
Bai Qinghao approached the seaside and looked for the most humid location. He then opened the first aid kit.
He collected some tree branches and tied them up into a simple pyramid shaped support.
At the center of the tree branches was the surgical knife..
