After my short respite away from the unending boredom of the bedroom, I knew it was only a matter of time before I was forced to go back.

However, I made an extremely important discovery.

As I was passed into the arms of my mother, my father went into the kitchen to begin making what I can assume is lunch. Separated only by a half wall, I was able to catch a glimpse of something magical.

By that, I mean literal magic

My father flicked his ring finger towards the fireplace beneath the stove, sending a small spark of flame into the dry wood.

A moment later, with a flick of his wrist, he pointed at the fire and said the word "Engulf". As the words left his lips, the previously unlit firewood started to burn in a small flame, eventually roaring to a full fire.

Holy shit! That was magic! Real-life, bonafide magic! Of course, my wide-eyed look and interest in what my father had just done did not go unnoticed by my mother.

"Aww Aero looks so entranced! I think we're gonna have a little mage on our hands!" My mother said, standing up and walking over to my father. Absolutely you have a mage on your hands!

"Well of course he'll be a mage! He's my son! There's no reality where my son doesn't have any magical talent." Jin said in a boastful tone, playfully rubbing my head before ushering my mother (and by proxy me) to take a seat in the living room.

"Hey little buddy, watch this," Jin said, sitting down across from my mother and me, holding a small spatula in his hands.

Jin's eyes glowed with a faint, murky purple light for a brief moment, and the spatula simply appeared in my hands.

Needless to say, I giggled with joy the way only a baby could. Now that was fucking cool.

"See? He loves magic!" Jin said, as the spatula disappeared from my hands and appeared once again in his.

"Well, what if he wants to become a swordsman like his mother? Or not become an adventurer at all?" My mother said in reply, which is a fair question if I was a normal baby.

An adventurer? Are you kidding me? That sounds so badass!

"Oh please Mary, of course, he's free to become anything else, but why wouldn't he want to become an adventurer? If he's got your talent or mine, he'd be literally born for it!" Jin laughed as he walked back towards the kitchen. Jin's got a bit of an ego huh?

Either way, I'm happy I've got the genes for it.

"Even so Jin, it's ultimately up to him. Also, I have a B-Rank quest coming up soon, so I'll probably be out for a few days. Remember to feed, change, and spend some time with him okay? I don't want him to get lonely." Mary said in a concerned tone as she caressed my cheek.

"Well, baby while you're gone.." Jin asked, a smug smile tugging on his lips.

"You only call me baby when you want something or are planning something, just say it." My mother said, sighing and pinching the bridge of her nose.

"Since he can babble, can I maybe, perhaps, try and get him to cast something?" Jin said, his tone quickening as he neared the end of the sentence.

I know my answer.

Yes, I absolutely want to do that thank you.

"Are you kidding me? He can barely say dad, what makes you think he can cast anything? Besides, we won't know for sure if he's magically inclined until he's two!" Mary said, with a look of both disbelief and worry. Shut up! Let him teach me magic!

Ugh, is this what it's like to have a mom?

"Well if he can talk at six months, then, of course, he's gifted! I mean, I doubt he can, but still, on the rare chance he can, he'd be a certified genius! C'mon can't I try anything at all? I'll try to get him to mimic the absolute basics. I mean, you can cast, as soon as you do it once you can feel your mana and do it again! C'mon, please!" Jin continued to beg like this for upwards of five minutes, repeatedly being shot down by my mother until she finally caved.

This might be the best moment of my life. New life. Both lives?

Well, definitely of this life, but aside from stealing the Hutton-Midivani Necklace, I don't think anything can ever top this! I'm about to learn fucking magic! Like spells!

My mother agreed to let my father "teach" me how to cast a small puff of wind, the absolute foundation of Wind Magic, the branch known for being the least dangerous apparently.

According to the bickering and the display my father gave in the kitchen, there are at least five types, or branches, of magic.

Wind, Water, Earth, Fire, and Lightning. Pretty basic I know, they also go in that order from least dangerous to most dangerous and volatile. I have no idea where 'teleporting spatulas' fits in the five basics, but whatever.

Based on how my father was talking, it seems as if there are more than those. I'm assuming the ones they discussed are basic elements and later in life I'll be able to learn more.

After the lunch, mine of which was my mother's uh, nutrients, as well as a bit of soup broth, she had to leave for her quest. I have so many questions, mainly on what a quest means in this context or what a 'B-rank' means in this world, but all of those can wait until I can speak.

Almost as soon as she left, my father took me into my room, sat me down, and left the room. After about ten seconds, he returned with a small feather.

"I know this is really a stretch, but follow what I do," Jin said, a grin never leaving his face.

He put his hand up and drew what looked like a "0" in the air, then, he placed his hand through the drawn "0" and made a fist. Suddenly, the tip of his index finger started to glow a very slight green. Now pointing towards the feather, he made a popping sound with his lips.

He looked ridiculous.

That is until the green energy glowed brighter on his finger, and a stream of air came out, blowing the feather into the air. Nevertheless, I let out a small giggle.

Looking back at me, he continued to grin.

"That must have looked funny huh? The longer the steps to a magic spell, the less mana it'll consume." He said gently patting my head. "I know you can't focus it onto your finger just yet, maybe you can I don't know, but just try to recreate the steps."

Jin paused for a moment before muttering to himself. "Why am I talking like he can understand me?"

Reaching out his hand, he wiggled his index finger in a strange way, and it looked as if the breeze carried the feather back over to us. I couldn't help but giggle in excitement as I stuck out my hand.

Repeating the motion of drawing an "0" in the air, sticking my hand through the center, and gripping down brought about a strange feeling within my chest. It's similar to the feeling of drinking a hot drink and feeling it going down your throat, only in reverse.

I could feel the warmth begin to slowly spread to my hand, and from my forearm down, there was a very slight green glow. Relaxing my gripped hand, a barely noticeable tuft of wind came out of my palm.

Giggling, I turned towards my father, and the look on his face was that of a man who had just won the lottery three times in a row. Or, in this case, had his son win the genetic lottery.

It was the last sight I saw before I passed out, a massive pain burning in my chest.
