Bernice collapsed. I gazed down at her unconscious form, watching her as she took a few pained breaths, before looking back to the Goddess before me.
There was so much I wanted to ask her. So many questions scholars and historians had debated for centuries. Yet when I tried to voice these questions. When I tried to ask the Primordial goddess herself for the answers to life’s mysteries. I found myself unable to speak.
I sat there feeling ashamed, as if I’d just become the world’s greatest failure. Staring at the goddess who contained all the answers but unable to ask a single question.
Laurmonja knelt beside Bernice, planting a tender kiss on my Mistress’s cheek. “Take care of her.” She whispered to me, and then she was gone.
With a shaking hand I reached out to pet my Mistress’s soft ears. The feeling of the soft fur against my flesh soothed my soul. Something which I desperately needed after that encounter.
I still struggled to believe it. To believe that my Mistress was greater than any oracle in history. My Mistress was the daughter of a Primordial god, the truth declared by the goddess herself.
Terror, hope, and delight all swirled within me in equal measure. If anything happened to Bernice, I feared the Goddess’s wrath. If I stayed by her side it was possible I’d get to meet the goddess again. Maybe I’d even be alive to see the day when Bernice ascends to godhood herself. As a demigod such things were possible for her.
Not that I’d intended to leave her side before. She was the woman whom earned my oath, I was bound to her for the rest of my life. It also helped that I found her to be exceedingly attractive. I wanted to be by her side, from the moment I first laid eyes on her.
That was why I spoke out in her favor when we met with Otrea. I simply didn’t want this adorable bunny to leave my sight. Even if I believed then that I stood no chance with her.
After all, she already belonged to Otrea. The legendary Exiled Witch. At one time I’d believed Otrea would be the most powerful being I’d ever shared a visible space with. Now Laurmonja had taken that distinction, and none of the Primordial Eleven were considered to be stronger than the others. So the goddess had just scored herself a permanent victory. Not that she probably cared.
I wonder what the goddess would think of me if I became intimate with her daughter?
I shook my head free of the thought as soon as it appeared. While I could not deny that I pined for my Mistress physically, we’d only just met. Not to mention that I had many rivals for her attention.
Rivals who are currently out of the picture.
The undead wasn’t worth worrying about. Only one of her personalities seemed interested in Bernice romantically, and they could not be present at all times. Which meant as long as Bernice resided in Lorepashe, she was all mine.
Not that I minded sharing her. I simply worried that if she fell for someone else, they’d take up all her time. If she couldn’t make time for me I wouldn’t be able to win her over.
With a sigh I cleared my mind of romantic desires as best I could. Relationships took time, and for now I needed to get my mistress home. So she could ride out her predicament in the comfort of her own bed.
