After another four days of travel, we finally drew close to where the coffee trees would be found. Stopping to stretch our legs, Harriette pointed out a massive volcano. Barely visible from our current location.

The volcano was our destination. At its base we’d find our coffee beans. Assuming that Harriette’s mother had not misinterpreted what we were looking for.

I was excited to be so close to being able to make coffee once again. Yet the volcano made me nervous. Massive clouds of white smoke rose from its peak. Causing me to fret that it might be close to eruption.

Never before in my life had I laid eyes on a volcano. At least not outside of television. I couldn’t tell if the rising clouds were just normal. Or if it was a sign we should keep our distance.

Guess I just need to have faith that Harriette and Euri know what to be weary of.

Neither of my Scaleborn companions looked worried at all. Which I took as a good sign that we were not in any immediate danger.

Still I figured it was best to be prepared for anything, and Mommy Laura had already hinted that I had a new skill. So I decided to use our little break from traveling and test it out.

“So your mother told you to try this?” Eurycelia asked me as I made my way away from the carriage. “Just focus on your legs and jump?”

“Yup.”

“Alright. Well, let’s see what you can do. I’ll do my best to catch you if things go awry.”

“Thanks Euri.”

“Of course. I love you Bernie.”

“Love you too Euri.”

I smiled as Eurycelia’s lips curled into a dopy grin. It took me awhile to be comfortable saying it. But after seeing her reaction, I wanted to tell her I loved her more often. Though I worried it might lose its novelty overtime.

“What about me!” Eskame pouted. “Do you love me, Big Sis?!”

“Of course I love you Eskame. Now stay with Euri, I have honestly no idea what I’m about to do. Other than jump really high, probably.”

Focusing on my legs, I took a deep breath. I tried to imagine some kind of energy flowing into them. Then I jumped.

Instead of the paltry foot or so off the ground I was usually capable of, I rocketed into the sky. Screaming as I realized I was now floating high above the tops of even the tallest trees.

I hovered in the air for a moment before gravity took affect and began to pull me back down. Only I didn’t go back to the ground. Instead I found myself standing upon a thin disk of hardened air.

“Bernie!!” Eurycelia shouted. “Are you okay?!”

“I’m fine,” I called back, giving Eurycelia and Eskame a little wave.

Hesitantly I stepped forward only to find that my hardened air did not expand. Frustratingly I wouldn’t be able to walk across the sky.

Perhaps I could hop.

Taking a deep breath I crouched before executing a perfect little bunny hop forward. Landing gently upon another disk of hardened air.

Ha! It worked!

Giggling to myself I hopped in circles way up above the trees. It was fun, and easy to do. The only problem I had was that I had no idea how to get down.

Or at least no idea that didn’t include walking off the edge of my safe little air disk, and plummeting to the ground. Suddenly I really really wished I had a manual for how this thing worked. As without it, I was stuck.

Bernie,

Anytime you kick your legs as if you’re hopping you’ll generate a solid disk of [Wind Magic]. Use this to control your descent back to the earth.

Love,

Mommy Rysa
