Chapter 7: 7. Close shave with death.

I continue on going down the tunnel, I'd like to get outta here quickly in case the snake decides to shoot some poison down here or something. While I was leaving, I hear sounds of the ensuing battle between the frogs and the snake, sorry frogs, but it would've come for you either way. Ok, I gotta hurry up though, I need to find the things that the frogs were killing so I can also level up, if these frogs could kill them, that means I can kill them too. I quicken my pace to find it quickly, the tunnel went down until it leveled completely. The end of it wasn't in sight yet, and I was getting nervous since my health had just dropped by another point. But man, heading directly into battle like this makes me frightened, will I ever be able to be perfectly calm when I go into battle? I just hope that the enemy I'll have to fight isn't something that is impossible for me to deal with, and that it wasn't something that the special characteristics of the frogs made them able to handle them.

I keep on thinking these thoughts as I hurry through the tunnel, I finally reach an opening and find a terrible sight. Worms, giant worms all around the place. They were crawling across the roof and earth, coming out of any and all holes in the walls, that is seriously gross! They were the size of my arm for God's sake. What were they thinking making giant worms like this?! Now that I think of it, there is one thing I am more scared of, please god, don't make giant cockroaches. Eugh, I'll have to kill these worms right, well, no need to be queasy, since I won't actually be eating them... yet.

I guess fighting them would be easy as pie right? I approach one of them and attempt to jump it with my claws. The worm instantly feels me coming and jumps into a nearby hole, come on! We aren't playing whack-a-mole! Well, I just need to find another one or wait this one out right? I go up to another one more carefully this time, and I try to strike at it, once again, the worm jumps back into the hole! Frustrated, I look for another one, and yep I get the exact same reaction. One worm even came out from a hole behind me and hit me with its face, it felt gross and hurt a little, I think that was actually a bite, but I'm not sure as I didn't feel teeth. Suddenly, more worms come from around me, each one of them attacking me in a similar manner to the first, I kept turning around trying to catch them but each time they had dived back into the holes, the damage down by each attack was minuscule, but you'll find that the damage builds up the more you get hit. I wonder how much they had done to me until now?

Holy crap! How did they do a decent amount of damage? I thought that they were weak! I need to appraise at least one of them now. When I turn around I manage to get a look at one of them and appraise it.

Huh, that is strange, they are the same level as me but they have far fewer health, perhaps level isn't a very reliable measurement? But that doesn't matter now, since I just need to get outta here first. I jump away from the worms and run away, when I was in the air the worms kept on attacking the same place, huh, could they not see me or something? Then how did they locate me? When I ran the worms popped back into their holes and prepared to move once more, I think I finally understand how they can see.

First off, before the worms would pop out, I put my mouth over one of the holes and blow some fire into it, the fire was small and weak, but in a thin hole like this, that would spell certain death for what was in there. I then hear the sound of something sizzling echoing from the hole.

Nice, looks like a few of them was caught in it, now the other worms had come out of the holes, but I did not move, instead, I picked up a rock and threw it in front of me, the worms then try to attack it and I take this opportunity to cut off the heads of two of them.

As the other 3 worms were trying to leave, I breathe fire at one of them to kill it, it was hit by the fire and was badly burnt, it struggled for a while before dropping dead from the burns, I felt a little light headed after using fire breath.

That did it! I finally leveled up! I instantly felt better and relieved, my body no longer felt heavy, and I was feeling stronger than ever. Now you stupid worms, I'll kill you two. But when I look at them I was shocked, since one of them killed the other and had recovered after killing it. So it had killed its teammate to level up so it can survive? That is seriously cruel. The worm still tried to fight me though, which didn't really make much sense seeing as I was a lot stronger than it, looks like it has minimal intelligence and works on instinct alone, still pretty weird how they can work together though, truly a mystery.

But now wasn't the time to be thinking about worm politics, since the worm came straight for the place it last felt my vibrations, this was no challenge after all though, I was stronger and more intelligent than it, so there is no way for it to beat me, come back in ten years if you want to challenge me you fool. When the worm finally comes out and attacks the wrong spot, I simply cut it with my claws, it was a pretty gross feeling cutting it like that, but I had also finally done it. I won the battle, the other worms had not interfered and were still doing their things, pretty weird why they didn't come and help the other worms, perhaps they were a different group or something?

But that didn't matter now, I just need to see my status and see how well are my stats.

Hooray! I was cured, that was a real scary chapter of my life, I don't want to get poisoned ever again. Welp, I better get outta here before more worms decide to meet with me. Goodbye worms, may we never meet again, because you're just way too gross.

At least now I feel a little less disgusted by them, once more I want to thank you Mr. System. I look around me for an exit so I can hurry up and leave this place, I had found another tunnel nearby, this one was going completely straight unlike the previous one, I head into it while ignoring all the worms, I got into the tunnel and ran off, now I can say goodbye properly. I go through the next tunnel at a slower pace than before, now that my life was no longer on a timer I want to enjoy it a bit more.
