Chapter 38: Ambush

It was once again Leo's turn to guard with Pirate.

"Looks like we are in Belarus, Nightmare." said Pirate.

Leo took one of the camera monitors attached to the side of the van and looked through it.

 

 

 

He could see a beautiful winter wonderland outside, there were only a couple of other cars on the road.

"Now that you mention it, it is freezing inside here!" said Leo.

Leo was already wearing the insulating clothes but yet it was still cold.

 

 

 

"Your fault Nightmare, should've woken up earlier and started preparing." said Pirate.

Leo wanted to counter-argue that by then they would have no idea what the mission would be, but he decided not to.

 

 

 

After four hours of driving, they were on a desolate road in the middle of Belarus.

"It is actually quite impressive that these people know the way here, Pirate." said Leo.

 

 

 

Pirate nodded before responding.

"MC&D only hires the best or the ones that have limitless potential, these people have been driving for their entire life." said Pirate.

Leo decided to take one of the camera monitors and looked through it.

He didn't see anything due to it snowing at the moment and he quickly put back the monitor.

 

 

 

"Pirate, how did you lose your eye if I may ask?" asked Leo.

Leo was sure that if he could see Pirates face now it would be filled with grief.

"Well, I used to be a sniper as well, one of the best actually.

Pirate didn't get to finish her words because she got sent flying through the back of the vehicle.

A dull explosion was heard before the vehicle spiraled out of control.

The vehicle crashed loudly against something and was laying on it's side.

"What the fuck happened!" yelled Artemis who just woke up.

"Ambush, get ready, Nightmare check the cameras and determine the position of the hostiles." said Pirate.

Leo quickly took the monitor and looked through it.

Two out of three cameras were broken and didn't display anything.

 

 

 

When Leo looked through the last camera his expression darkened.

He saw three people with shields covering the back of the vehicle with another four carrying assault rifles backing them up.

Three of them were behind shields meanwhile one was standing in the middle.

 

 

 

All of them were wearing white tactical armor except the one in the middle.

Leo quickly made his call out.

"Our exit is surrounded by seven people, six of them are hidden behind a shield and one is standing in the middle, he is most likely the group leader, opening the door is suicide since we will instantly be gunned down, any ideas Artemis?" said Leo.

Artemis didn't say anything and was deep in thought.

 

 

 

The silence got broken by Crawler.

"Leo, make a small hole at the roof of the vehicle by shapeshifting your hand."

Leo nodded and shifted his hand into the form of a pickaxe and started banging on the roof of the vehicle.

 

 

 

it didn't do much and only dented it a bit.

He tried pouring some acid on it and continued hitting it.

Leo felt the metal soften upon banging it some more, signaling that the acid was working.

 

 

"Alright! Listen the hell up!

I will be throwing three smoke grenades through this hole, they won't be able to identify what the grenades are and they will back up, once you hear the grenades detonate you will wait ten seconds!

They will start by opening fire upon the door and after that they will wait a second, you will open the door then and make a dash outside!

Pirate, you cover us with your M249, I will head for a tree and Artemis will make sure no one reaches me.

Nightmare, dash for the forest and contact HQ about our situation, after that go all out and take out as many as you can, Pirate, you will lead the assault and Artemis will try to take out any that target you."

Everyone nodded at Crawler before he spoke again.

"One last thing, I will not allow anyone of us to die again! Now let's go!"

 

 

Right as Crawler finished his speech, Leo managed to penetrate the metal.
