Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Psych Power?

Luca drank some water and decided to take a nap, hopefully, he recovers a bit of his energy after a nap. He laid down slowly, as he still felt pain all throughout his body, and closed his eyes. After only a few seconds he fell into a deep sleep.

While he was dreaming, Luca didn't know that his body kept trembling as his soul was trying to get used to its new body. After a long while, his body seemed to settle down and his expression relaxed. After a couple of hours, his soul completely bonded to this new body and his mind became more clear. He dreamed of the events that took place the previous night.

Last night he got into another argument with his father, he was accused of being lazy and not trying hard enough. As if trying hard will make him awaken an ability. His father was a proud military man, and after the apocalypse started, he soon found out that a portion of the people who had not turned into zombies on day zero, had gained a supernatural ability. His father was of the group that gained a power, his ability was a strong fire type.

As for Luca himself, he seemed to be part of the majority of people that had no ability. However, in the next two years since the apocalypse has begun, the base discovered that all the humans on earth, with no exception, have mutated and were separated into three groups. The ones that have mutated into zombies, the ones who have awakened an ability, and the so-called ‘regular’ people.

In actuality, the ‘regular’ people were also part of the awakened group, except that the ability users were able to stimulate their abilities, and the ‘regular’ people didn't. This information, along with the way to stimulate abilities was known by the higher-ups in the base, so his father naturally knew the was to awaken his ability, however, he could never figure out why it didn't work. 

The ‘regular’ people were measured as level zero and the awakened were level one. The way to stimulate someone’s ability was to give them ‘energy’ so that they can increase their ability from zero to one, to be able to use their power. And this energy came from zombie nuclei. 

It was discovered pretty soon after day zero that ability users were able to suck out energy from zombie nuclei to replenish their powers. Likewise, ordinary people could also do this, but with no visible effect. 

That was until a military personnel absorbed five nuclei and awakened his ability. This news was spread among the military but never got to the ears of the common people. Of course, as the military wanted to strengthen the base, they lead some tests and discovered that regular people could awaken their abilities with varied amounts of nuclei. 

Some people only needed one or two, while others needed ten to twenty. There were also some that consumed more than fifty, but nothing seemed to happen. The military required every member of the base to report their ability and if they had none, they would get the opportunity to awaken. 

The base provided up to ten nuclei to regular people and children above the age of twelve and instructed them on how to use them, if they awakened it was great news, if they didn't, they were considered a waste and told that they didn't have any abilities. This was because the number of nuclei it took to awaken their abilities, that times ten would be the amount they would need to upgrade their abilities, and that would be a waste of resources to the base to awaken people with more than ten nuclei.

Even though Luca was stuffed with zombie nuclei by his father for about three years, he never seemed to awaken his power, he must have consumed at least five hundred. He was determined to be a waste by his father and they often quarreled. 

The fight last night was because he told his father that he would stop trying to awaken an ability. After all, he has absorbed so many nuclei and he has never been able to use any type of ability. Many times he thought that he actually already had a power but didn't know what it was, otherwise how else could his situation be explained? But he has tried the methods of using fire, water, ice, earth, etc. but nothing ever worked.

After the fight, he decided to try one last time. He wrote down all the ability types and ways people used them and tried them one by one, but none worked. The last, and most mysterious type, was all that was left, he was nervous as that seemed to be his last chance, and if he wasn't a psych ability user, that means he was truly powerless.

The psych ability was one that varied the most, some people could read others' minds, some could cause hallucinations, some could control animals, some could move items with their minds and etc. He didn't even know where to start. He took a break and had the kitchen aunty make him some tea and some sweets. 

The life of the rich isn't too different from before, so Luca had access to such luxuries. For example, the luxurious tea he was drinking was a present his father got from one of his subordinates. And the cookies he was eating were baked specifically for him by the kitchen aunty his dad hired. After he finished his tea, he went back to his room and laid down on his bed trying various ways to use a psych ability, it was after all the last chance he gave himself before completely giving up. 

Luca tried many things but didn’t succeed, he was getting sleepy. He willed himself to stay awake and tried to meditate, he wanted to see if he could read the mind of the aunty in the next room. His head was getting dizzy, but he still focused his mind on the other room while he himself was laying on the bed. Then all of a sudden his perception changed and he realized he was in the other room.

He was thrilled, didn't know what he has done exactly but he definitely did something. Luca tried to look around but realized that he couldn't move ‘his’ body. Then he noticed that this wasn't his body at all!! His sight of view moved from the bead and towards the wardrobe. He felt ‘himself’ walking towards it, next to the wardrobe was a mirror, and Luca was shocked at what he saw. He seemed to be the aunty? No more like he was in her body somehow and could see, hear and feel what she was feeling, but couldn't control her actions?

The aunty seemed to be geting ready for bed and was about to change! HE DID NOT WANT TO SEE THAT!! She was around fifty to sixty years old, he would rather bleach his eyeballs! He tried to remember how to use his power and tried to switch back into his body, he pulled his spirit out of her body and seemed to be floating above. He tried to go back to his body but for some reason, he couldn't. 

He felt himself geting weaker and knew he shouldn't stay as a spirit for long. He started to panic, what if he wouldn't be able to go back to his body? He decided to try to see if he could possess others, when he was stable, he could think about how to get back into his body, however, even though he could possess sleeping people, he felt himself geting weaker and knew this was not the solution. 

As he was floating around pondering, he felt himself get dimmer and his mind was getting fuzzy. Will he disappear if he stayed this way? He started to panic more and kept floating around trying to find someone that was awake. After all, when he possessed the aunty, he felt fine, so he just needs to find someone who is awake, right? Luckily he seemed to notice a group of people a bit away from his house and with his last remaining energy, he threw himself toward that group. 

As he got closer he noticed that the group was beating up someone who looked to be a homeless teenager, but he didn't have time to think much. He felt that he was in a very dangerous situation. He didn't care who he would possess, anyone would do, so at full speed, he flung himself towards them.

Luke Wixx didn't know there would be such horrible people, and he didn't know who told them that he was hiding points. He worked day and night for a couple of months to save up so that he would have enough for when he gets kicked out of the free housing, but now they want to rob him of that? Without the points, when he stops geting help from the base, how can he live? He would be left to die!! Luckily he hid the points very well and as long as he gets through this ordeal, he will be fine. 

As he was thinking this. He felt a punch to his jaw which caused him to be repelled towards the wall, and with a hard thud sound, as his head was smacked into the wall, his vision went black. Luke Wixx immediately turned into a vegetable, and his soul left his body. Living through such hardships, he couldn't even grow up till adulthood.

In the next second, his body crumbled down to the ground, but not before Luca’s spirit entered the still-living, brain-dead body.
