The underworld.

"Dairon?" Narilia was shocked when he suddenly appeared behind her.

"What are you doing?" He grabbed her scepter and threw it to the ground.

She turned around with a glare. "Warming up the immortal realm moons so I can eat them for dinner." She rolled her eyes at his stupid question. "Of course I'm summoning Jasmine. What do you think I'm doing?"

"Why would you do that?" He glared at her and pushed her further away from the scepter.

"Oh, you don't understand." She took a deep breath and pulled him to sit. "Do you remember what we found out seven hundred years ago? That if we can find a deity or demideity who looks like Catalyah, we could swap out her body and bring Catalyah back to life." She explained excitedly. "That's Jasmine, right?"

She hugged him. "I'm sorry I misunderstood you. I thought you were trying to replace my sister when in actual sense, you were merely luring that demigoddess in preparation for today."

He pushed her away so she would shut up. "I'm not going to do any such thing."

"What? Why?" She was confused. "Did you fall in love with her?"

"It's none of your business." He dismissed her and she took it as an affirmative response.

She took out a sword he didn't know she was carrying on her belt. "How could you?"

"You have no idea what you are doing so stop it." He pushed the sword out of her hand faster than she could detect his movements. Before she could react, he locked her hands behind her back. "Don't you ever try to hurt Jasmine again."

"Hands off my mate!" A force of air made Dairon let go of Narilia. She ran past him to the male that had appeared behind Dairon and threw herself into his arms.

"He wants to kill me." She whimpered, her whole body shaking in trepidation.

Dairon frowned at the accusation and turned. "Rein in your mate before she gets herself killed for harming mine."

The demon looked Dairon up and down and his red eyes glinted in fury. "Are we going to fight over a goddess again, Dairon?"

Dairon snorted at his way of putting it. He picked up Narilia's scepter and rendered it powerless before meeting the demon's gaze. "You keep seeking fights with me. Who am I to decline, Ulke?"

Narilia looked at the two of them and for the first time, she noticed something she had never realized before.

"Are you really a demigod?" She asked when Dairon brushed past them.

Dairon chuckled and Ulke patted her head. "If you want to keep yourself alive, stay away from him."

"The underworld is not your bathroom. Don't come back once you leave." Ulke dismissed him.

He looked at the two of them and his lips curled in a hint of a smile. To think that the demon responsible for Catalyah's death was living his life like nothing ever happened, and trying his best to win her sister's heart.

If it were up to him, he would make Narilia end up with Bardumond just to punish Ulke.

Eight hundred years ago.

Catalyah's eyes widened when she saw the demigod in King Rian's study.

"Why… why is it you?" She took a step back and gasped when the door slammed shut behind her.

"Why are you scared?" He smirked. "Don't you trust me?"

A fireball formed in her hands behind her back, which she was ready to throw at him when he had his guard down.

He chuckled at her antics. "Are we going to treat each other like enemies? It's been long since we last saw each other and I miss you."

"Why didn't you tell me?" She demanded.

"That I miss you? Because I didn't have the chance." He took his seat behind the desk as though it belonged to him.

"You know that's not what I'm asking." She frowned at his bullshit and tried to be as far away from him as possible. "Why did you hide your identity from everyone?"

"Obviously, because they would act like you did." He shrugged. "Come here."

She didn't budge. "What did you do to my grandfather?"

"Nothing, yet." He looked up at her distrusting eyes. "And it will remain that way if you don't open that pretty mouth."

He stood and walked over to her. She couldn't escape no matter how she tried. It was as though her powers had been rendered useless. She would have screamed for help but insiticnt told her that it was a waste of time. He still believed that she wouldn't try to call for help. If she let him know that she could, he might do something irrational. Besides, if he could manage to keep Rian away and invade his study, he wasn't simple.

She took in a breath when he closed in on her. Rationally, he couldn't hurt her or he would have done so centuries ago. But then again, perhaps what he wanted all along was to kill her after finishing up something else that took all those years.

Dairon teleported them to the bridge where they first met and she was confused. How could he use teleportation powers in King Rian's castle? And why did he bring her here?

He read her mind and only answered the second part. He glanced at the water waves below and leaned against the railing. "I brought you here to reminisce our first meeting because… we will not see each other again. This is goodbye."

"What do you mean?" Her head snapped to look at him. "Are you going to kill me for what I know?"

The boat steadied and Jasmine blinked several times in a row. What just happened?

She could have sworn that just a moment ago, she felt like she was going to die. What was that all about? She glanced down at the necklace around her neck and took it off. She couldn't be certain that it wouldn't try to drain her again. Perhaps Catalyah didn't want other females near her mate and was trying to kill her. Could the dead try to kill the living? She didn't know and she didn't try to find out. It was easier to be safe.

After taking out the necklace, she threw it into the sea and it turned black.

"Huh?" She glanced at it in shock.

Her first reaction was to place the blade of the oar under it to stop it from sinking, then she took it out of the water and studied it.

The red heart was slowly changing its form and when it finished transforming, it became a black teardrop. Her lips twitched. How could anyone send her a fake necklace and try to use it to kill her?

Instinct told her that it was not Scarlet. She must have countless enemies that she didn't know of, so she did the only sane thing.

She rowed back to land and followed the trail she had left behind using identical rocks, back to the start of the tunnel.

This time, it was obvious that she should take the other tunnel which had been said to lead to the underworld. It was obvious which one led to the underworld after what had just happened.

When she got to the end of the tunnel, she frowned. Why was she back on the Proconian Isles? It took a moment for her to realize that it was not the same place. The former Proconian Isles looked lifeless and uninhabited, while she knew from the castle in the distance and the scent in the air that there had to be at least one immortal who lived here.

The beautiful flowers drew her in and she wanted to spend some time gazing at them. Unfortunately, she knew that she had to leave as soon as possible. She ran towards the castle and was shocked by her own speed.

"My scepter!" She was overjoyed. She saw it when she was close enough to the gates of the castle. She ran even faster and took it, checking if it was the real deal. Why did this seem too simple to be true?

She waited for something to go wrong but nothing seemed to be out of place. Perhaps Sinos thought she would have trouble getting to the Proconian Isles.

To be fair, she would have had trouble if she didn't have temporary power to control the sea. That was probably why she felt its presence from so high up in the sky.

She sighed when she thought about it. Dairon did know that at the moment, he had given her the power to harm him if she wanted to. She could kill him and he wouldn't have any way to retaliate. Why would he give a demigoddess such power if he didn't truly love her?

She hugged her scepter to her chest. "Am I being too hard on him?"
