"Is Jasmine home?" She asked as a way to make conversation with him, seeing as he was not repulsed by her hug.

"She isn't. I thought the two of you have been communicating through letters." He knew what she was up to but he wasn't sure how to hold a conversation with her.

"Oh, I brought grapes on my way but left them at the beach. Do you want some?" She dashed away before he could answer her and returned within just a few seconds, making him finally understand where he got his terrifying speed.

She washed the grapes and sat on a bench, waiting for him to join her.

He knew that he shouldn't stay too close to her or he risked exposing himself. He wanted to turn away and enter the house but when he saw her hopeful gaze, he couldn't bring himself to turn. He clenched and unclenched his fist and in the end, he sat down as far from her as the bench could allow.

She didn't mind it and it was just an arm's length away from her.

She held up a grape to inspect it against the sunlight, to ensure it was perfect.

Misunderstanding her gesture, he frowned slightly. Was she trying to feed him? He looked away for a second but his heart betrayed him. He had never been fed by his mother and deep down, he longed to know how it felt like. So, he leaned over and bit the grape away from Alaya's fingers.

She was taken aback and widened her eyes. Did her son just eat from her hand?

She held up another grape for confirmation, this time leading it close to his mouth. Her eyes stung when he willingly ate it. She didn't get to feed him even once before she gave him away. To think that the first time would be millennia later.

It was the most beautiful moment in her life and she didn't want to ruin it so she didn't say a word. She fed him more grapes and only snapped out when they were over. How she wished she had more.

"I'll bring you more next time." She promised. He didn't say a word so she stood to leave. She wanted to hug him but didn't have the courage to. What if it ruined the little closeness they had just built?

"Goodbye, son." She held the empty bag and offered a kind smile.

He did not say a word until she was several meters away and he called after her.

"Mother."

She turned in disbelief. What did he just call her?

"Jasmine is back." He announced and turned to leave.

"Okay." She excitedly rushed after him. When she saw Jasmine at the door, she blazed past Dairon and hugged her excitedly.

"What's the good news?" Jasmine was taken aback by the sudden hug.

Alaya pulled her away to break the news. "Dairon called me mother."

"He finally did? That calls for celebration." She led Alaya to the garden.

"He also let me feed him grapes." She explained, still in disbelief. She waited for Jasmine to laugh and tell her that she was dreaming. When that did not happen, she finally started to believe it. "Do you think he is finally starting to warm up to me?"

"There is only one way to find out." Jasmine called Dairon over and asked him to join them for drinks. He sat as far from them as possible and she understood that he was doing so because he was afraid that Alaya might accidentally see his claws if they showed up.

On the other hand, Alaya couldn't understand her son's train of thought. What was he trying to do? Anyway, he was getting more comfortable around her and that was all that mattered.

She would have loved to stay for longer but having heard the news of their marriage, she did not want to interfere with their bonding time. She readied herself to leave after catching up with Jasmine.

"You better take extra care of yourself. Ulke now lurks near the water kingdoms." He spoke for the first time since he sat down, making both his mother and his mate look at him like he had just broken the oddest news. He rubbed his forehead, shaking his head at their peculiarity. "Never mind. Stop using the water routes to get here. I'll let my pets give you access when you teleport."

Just when she thought she had already had her fair share of her son's affection for the day, she received his caring words. Maybe it didn't mean much to him and he would have done it for anyone but he had no idea how it made her feel. The fact that he cared for her security was enough to erase all the years of pain and agony.

Unfortunately. "I cannot teleport. I lost most of my powers ages ago." She revealed.

He immediately knew that she had lost them when she had him. He was trying not to feel overly sentimental around her, and she just had to say the words that would tug at his heartstrings. There was no regret in her voice when she spoke of her lost powers and that made him lose his mind.

"Summon me whenever you want to see me or Jasmine. I will come and get you." He spoke and only managed to catch his tongue when the words were already out. The happy smile on Alaya's face was worth it all and…

"When did I ever care for family bonds and such emotions?" He asked out aloud after uncontrollably watching as Alaya played with the water before disappearing into the sea.

Jasmine wrapped her arms around him. "Since you married me."

"Right." It finally made sense. It was very much like Jasmine to do everything she could just to see a smile on Sophie's face. They now shared the same emotions and most of each other's views, not that he was complaining.

Nothing was better than having such a perfect bond with the one he loved.

"Did the letters from King Rian arrive?" She asked onto his back, hugging his broad shoulders from behind. She had missed him all day even though she had only been away from him for a few hours.

"Cat dropped them off just a moment ago." He responded.

"Is he still here? I promised to give him some grain." She hopped away to find the bird even without waiting for Dairon's answer.

She found the bird on the window sill of the library, waiting for her. She took it with her forefinger. "Good bird. I prepared special grain for you,"

"Do you plan to open the letters any time this year?" Asked Dairon. He had followed her and was leaning against the wall.

"I will!" She let Cat play around and took the letters to have a look. She gave him the envelope labelled Dairon and took the one with her name, which she tore open impatiently.

"Let's see what our beloved King has in mind." She smiled sarcastically.

But when she read the content, she blinked her lashes and her eyes drooped. She held back her disbelief and looked up. When she met his gaze that reflected her own, she knew that he must have a similar mission in his hands.

He didn't look like he intended to speak so she went first.

"It's your mission and it is confidential. I think King Rian accidentally swapped the envelopes." She paused, unable to bring herself to believe the content of the letter. "My eyes had already seen it before I realized that it was addressed to you. Your mission is to find my weakness within thirty days."

"I see." He didn't have much of a reaction.

She couldn't look at him anymore. He obviously would not want to do such a thing but would he do it for the sake of completing the mission?

"If I were to find your weakness, that would mark the completion of my mission. Does it state anywhere that I should tell your weakness to anyone?" He blatantly twisted King Rian's meaning.

Did that work too?

She passed the letter to him even though he already knew the content, and waited for him to pass over hers. She raised an eyebrow when he didn't move.

"What's that?" She finally asked.

"Is it something similar? I would expect King Rian to do such a thing." She forced a laugh. "Maybe he is trying to forcefully make us enemies."

She rambled on for a while and stopped when he slid the letter over the table to her. She had a bad feeling as she quickly turned it over to read the part that had been written in clear, large characters.

"Find and kill Ulke's offspring within thirty days? Ulke has a child?" She was more shocked by the revelation than by the mission. "Why is it my business to kill a demon's child and why am I being given…thirty days?" She realized the only reason for the similarity halfway through her question and her voice trailed off.

She looked at Dairon and pictured his demon form, which made her shut her eyes in denial. "No."
