Chapter 30

What are you going to do now?! Inconsiderate boss!!’ Roy panicked in his heart seeing that his boss was once again advancing to invade the private space of the lady. Of course, he did not have the guts to say that to his face. He still valued his life and his job.

Levian stopped a few steps away from Sherry, whose back was turned to him. She was neither crying nor she was showing any sign of anguish and pain. Seeing her sit there motionless like that made Levian feel bitter in his heart.

“Stand up”

“I know.”

A hoarse voice finally spoke up. It was Sherry who still was bowing down her head. She was looking down at the face on her lap but the expression on her eyes was hidden away by the shadow of her disheveled hair.

“I know she is dead, and I also know that I would catch cold if I keep on staying here,” Sherry said without much emotion. The fact that her voice was absolutely normal was the abnormal about this whole situation.

Levian looked down at the round head of the girl and sighed, “It’s good that you know.” He leaned a bit down to pat her on her shoulder but stopped his hand in midair. “Now stand up. I will call the ambulance for you,” he said as he straightened himself.

There was silence once again.

‘Is she going to have an outburst?’ He thought as he dialed the phone number of the ambulance. Even after he was done calling, there was no sign of such.

As soon as he was done calling them, Sherry finally raised her head a bit. She slightly turned her head to look at where he stood. She could only see his leg but that was more than enough.

“Thank you,” Sherry said weakly as she caressed the wrinkled skin on the face of the lady. Each stroke was filled with deep affection and care.

Levian said nothing in response. It seemed to him that she still had something more to say to him. He looked at his watch. It was almost midnight.

‘I will just hear her out, the registration can wait,’ he nodded his head as he prepared himself to listen to the venting of some sad woman. The ambulance was going to arrive in five more minutes. He was not the best listener out there, but he definitely could hang on for five minutes.

“She died more than 7 hours ago,” Sherry said, her tiny frame trembling a bit. It was not winter but she was shivering as if a cold wind had penetrated through her heart and body. “It was still daytime when she stopped breathing; it was still warm when her body got this cold.”

Levian remained silent. Roy followed his boss and said nothing. He knew that the lady needed to let vent out her feelings.

“That is like around the same time I left the house earlier today,” Sherry said- her breathing getting shallower and faster every minute. “She was smiling when I went to the hospital today, so tell me-” she paused abruptly.

Her head shook a bit as she finally raised her head, her eyes meeting the deep black eyes of Levian for the first time after entering this mansion.

“Tell me why is she not smiling at me anymore? Tell me huh!!” she yelled out as he tightened her hold on the dead body of the old maid. Despite all these, she was trying not to cry, trying not to who her weakness.

Even though her eyes were filled to the brim with salty waters, threatening to break the dam of the weak will and determination, she did not let even a single drop roll down her cheeks.

“She said she will cook my favorite dish for me, she said she would, she promised me!” Sherry stared at Levian with questions coming out of her mouth. She knew she was not going to get answers from Levian, that man who was looking at her with a gaze of indifference.

She knew he was just an outsider but she…what could she even do? There was no one else whom she could ask these questions that were bubbling inside her heart.

“Tell me Nah..why is she this cold?” Sherry mumbled with a shiver. The cold body she was holding made her heartbreak into pieces that could never get back together.

Seeing that Levian had nothing to say to her, Sherry lost the power to speak anything more. No matter how much she shouted at him, no matter how much she barraged him with questions that were unrelated to him, she was not going to get an answer.

Because the one who was supposed to answer them and also the one who was guilty of making her feel this way was already gone. She had completely left her alone in this world.

“She is dead… right? You said she was dead…” Sherry’s weak voice reached Levian, finally making the indifferent gaze in his eyes turn to frown. He stared at the broken girl in front of him, the girl who managed to take him by surprise with her actions. He had known her for just a single day but he had seen so many sides of her, that it was simply too hard to digest all of them.

Nevertheless, he hated this weak sight of her. He walked a few steps and crouched down on the floor. His eye level finally met her eye level.

“Yes, and if you want me to repeat it to you again, I can,” he said as he twirled his finger around the curls of her hair. He tucked the few strands of hair that were blocking her eyes behind her ears.

Sherry watched him with unblinking eyes. She knew he was telling the truth and no matter how much she tried to deny it, it was not going to change the fact.

“So, she did leave me…” she cupped her face with both of her palms, tears slipping through the cracks between the fingers as she finally cried out in a sad voice.
