Ciel, who was peacefully sleeping, abruptly shot up from her bed into a defensive stance, reaching for the dagger tied to her boots. However, what she felt was a thin fabric of cotton.
Dazed for a brief moment she glanced at the unfamiliar bedroom she was in.
Just a moment ago she and her party successfully killed a world boss monster. As she was cutting through the serpents' hard scales and thick flesh, a dark shadow shot straight towards her, knocking her tens of meters away and falling flat onto the ground.
"What's going on..."
She mumbled in confusion as by now. How could she have gone from a bloody battlefield to an apartment room? That wasn't the only problem.
Her senses were almost completely blocked and her entire body felt weak all over. She had never felt this powerless since 'that' day.
How is this possible? It wasn't until she caught sight of an object that should not exist.
"It really is a laptop. Hold on, this date... this- this is impossible?"
At the bottom right of the screen was the date 31/12/2028 11:25 pm.
Ciel closed her to clear her mind before sorting through everything that has happened in the past 5 or so minutes.
Just before she appeared in this room, it should have been the third month of the year 2038. She should have been attacked by an unknown enemy after digging through the serpent's corpse, but instead found herself in this ordinary room wearing pajamas.
For a moment, she couldn't help but think that everything she experienced was nothing but a dream, a nightmare, but the vivid memories in her head were too real to be just that.
It was still too early to assume things so she quickly gathered more information from the laptop. Though her memories of the past were vague, the more important events she still remembered were the same, such as the official release of "Gods Domain" to the public.
"I really have returned..."
Her emotions were a little complicated for a while but calmed down very quickly. It was one of her natural-born talents, no matter how absurd the situation was, she could remain calm.
It was said that in a few months after release, "Gods Domain" dominated the global online market and became the most played game in the world, topping previous records by a landslide. With every passing month hundreds of millions of new players joined the game, until eventually several years later, it became a second life for humans.
Apart from death, the game had a 100% realism aspect to it, with an almost infinite number of classes and jobs. Things that couldn't be done in the real world can easily be done in God's Domain.
However, this game was only a link to a more terrifying world. 10 years after its release, a certain update caused the game to merge with the real world, blending the game world with reality.
Such an apocalyptic event shocked everyone and many weren't prepared for this. If things weren't bad enough, an "expansion pack" for the Myriad Evil Races was also released on the update. It was nothing short of an invasion.
In the first hour, 20% of the world's population was annihilated and more were dying by the second. Those numbers were made up of ordinary players who weren't even level 10, they had no right to choose to live, and everything was decided by strength and strength alone.
Only the high-end players or lucky fellows survived for a longer time. Ciel was naturally one of them. She had always been lucky since birth.
"A second chance, huh?"
An intense desire for strength burned inside her heart.
"I'll make sure that this time I won't become a disposable tool for others."

Gods Domain, unlike other games, didn't have an open beta, but officially released the game to the public on all servers at midnight.
Ciel had already taken care of her needs and was now laying down on her bed with a newly bought VR Headset.

[Name has been chosen. Please select one of the following classes and jobs.]
Gods Domain has 4 main Classes and 12 Jobs.
Warrior: Knight, Shield Warrior, Berserker.
Weapons Specialist: Swordsman, Assassin, Hunter.
Mage: Elementalist, Summoner, Cursemancer.
Healer: Priest, Cleric, Druid.
In her past life, she chose assassin since it was a class that dealt massive single target damage, had many escape and life-saving skills, and didn't require a team to clear certain dungeons.
[You have chosen Weapons Specialist, Assassin]
Just as she finished choosing her class, a loud feminine voice echoed from the skies similar to the assistant he was talking with.
[World Announcement: God's Domain has officially opened! To celebrate today's event all new players will receive a welcoming gift pack!]
Ciel hurriedly stepped through the opening gates in front of her revealing the world below. Standing on the edge of a cloud, when she took a glance below her sight was filled with the endless land and water of the Elysian Plane, the name of the endless continent below her. Sadly, players could only see this magical view once as the moment you stepped through the gates, they will close behind you sealed shut forever.
Small excitement sparkled in her eyes as she stepped through the gates falling from Heaven to Earth.
All around her she saw hundreds of thousands of shooting stars falling from the clouds above. They were other players just like her.
The trajectories were random but every player would fall onto the central plaza of various small cities, towns, or villages; a beginners town.

[Warning! An error has occurred in the system!]
[Warning...]
The sudden alert notifications confused Ciel as she questioned what was going on. An unknown entity? Invading God's Domains system? That was nearly impossible as it was controlled entirely by a highly advanced AI.
She was about to voice her thoughts and report to the games' officials when a sudden mechanical voice rang in his ears.
[Notice: Unique Entity detected and approved by the system to enter God's Domain. Transferring original souls' unique abilities to the Drifter.]
[Isolated Prey (Lvl 1)]
[Concealment (Lvl 1)]
"..."
[Record 6: New World.]
Log Entry.
The original body's owner had died with a strong wish to redo her life, sending a remnant of her soul's will into the past where she took possession of her past self.
However, her dream violated the first law of reincarnation under a certain deity who owns this world, therefore she has been replaced with the Drifter.
With the memories and knowledge of the future of this world, the Drifter is obligated to fulfill certain wishes of the world through unique questlines and missions given by God's Domain's System.
The Drifter's unique abilities have been locked until either they accumulated enough origin source or have left the world.
Log End.
Jack was stunned speechless.
Not by the randomness of the situation and his unique position, but by the fact that "he" was now a "she."
"She" stood frozen on the spot until she was shoved by a group of players.
The central plaza that was empty a minute ago was now filled with chattering noises, cheers, and heated arguments from the arrival of the players.
She immediately left the Central Plaza towards a secluded alley and then double-checked to make sure no one was around before she closed her eyes to sort through her memories and to better make out what her situation was.
