Their mood changed immediately when they entered the camp behind the barricades. It was not only the outside that was damaged. Even inside the barricades, there were countless traces of arrows and magic. At first, Nemu thought that the bandits had just missed the people on the wall. But above the barricades was another wall, not as damaged as the camp. They must have done this on purpose. But why? Didn't they want to sell the Rabbitmen hiding here as slaves? None of this made sense for anything more, but the reason was simple. The bandits were idiots. They didn't think about it and just wanted to destroy without thinking about the consequences. Honestly, Nemu didn't even want to know if they hit the people inside the village.

What was even more depressing was the mood. Everyone was just going about their work while looking at the ground with their faces down. Even the children were not playing. They just sat on the ground and looked sad. Even if they themselves were not hurt, all of them must have lost someone in the last few weeks.

What changed the situation somewhat for the better, and even brought some smiles back to the unhappy faces, were the visitors. As usual, Nemu was ignored. But all of them were looking at Trewy. Dryads really had a special place in the Jura Forest. Trewy was also happy when she noticed that the depressed expression disappeared from some of the faces. Some of them became a little doubtful when they realized that Trewy was still very young. Wasnt she here to protect them?

A small fire burned in the center of the village. A Rabbitman, a woman, was stirring with a ladle in a pot on the fire. And Nemu noticed something else. The pile of wood next to the fire was almost exhausted. Besides, everyone looked hungry. He cursed himself when he thought that he had thrown away a lot of food. It was necessary, he was aware of that. Still... Here he learned something new. The fancy food he had brought from Tempest was unnecessary. He should not have brought such food. What the people of the Great Jura Forest needed was normal food. Many of them were simply hungry. He will keep that in mind when he visits Tempest the next time. It was obvious what was happening here. The tribe had not hunted or gathered food from outside for weeks. And now, there was not much left.

"As you can see, we are not doing so well at the moment." Said the elder and sighed.

"We can help a little." Nemu said and Trewy nodded.

Fortunately, Nemu gathered a lot of wood. Almost all of his dimensional space was filled with firewood. At first he thought it would be annoying to collect new wood for every fire they made. So, whenever he saw a nice piece of wood, he took it with him. And that paid off now. On the last remains of the wood for the fire, Nemu unloaded his stomac... dimensional space. A huge pile appeared from his small body. That was the moment when most Rabbitmen noticed him for the first time. A red slime was something special, but still, they had other things on their minds at the time than paying attention to a slime. However, when they saw what Nemu had done, they looked at him appreciatively.

But then they were distracted by Trewy. They still had many seeds with them with which she can make bushes grow. And she spread most of them on the ground. After she started using her magic, they all started to grow. Nemu had seen this before several times. First, a small sapling grew on the ground, before a whole bush appeared out of nowhere. Everyone in the village watched her as the bushes grew and grew and in the end had large fruits on them. Especially, the children were very excited. What a showoff... Nemu was again completely ignored.

As most of the Rabbitmen approached the bushes with large berries on them Trewy told the rabbits that they could have all of it. And that she has enough left for herself, so they don't have to worry. It was true that Trewy still had some seeds left. And she could also look for new ones in the forest, but the seeds she brought with her were from her grove and thus imbued with nature's energy. She would be fine without the seeds, but she still wanted to replace them soon.

"Thank you." Said the elder with a slight bow. "Let's go inside, please." He was getting a little impatient. But who would blame him? Nemu told him that he had information that could determine the fate of their tribe. Even if they would have liked to stay outside a little longer, it was time.

What could not be seen from the outside was the cave into which they were now going. Inside the village were three houses made of wood. Nemu and Trewy don't even know if it deserved the name house. What made it worse were the destroyed roofs. However, it seemed that most of the Rabbitmen lived in the cave. That was relieving. Nemu thought at first that the attacks from outside would have been dangerous for the women and children, but since they could also hide in the cave, probably no one was hurt.

"We all live in the cave at the moment. Since the humans attacked, it is the only safe place in the village. We were lucky, well, if you can really call it luck. But without this cave, many more of us would have been hurt. Beastmen don't usually live in caves, but it's convenient." The elder explained and shrugged. He was right, having such a retreat in the dangerous forest was really convenient. Nemu could understand why they chose this place for their tribe.

However, the entire place was covered with blankets, cloths and there were many small fireplaces. The whole tribe must have lived here in the cave after the humans attacked. Also the smell... Trewy wrinkled her nose. Fortunately, Nemu couldn't smell anything.

At the far end of the cave was the only door. "This is my room. Or should I say it used to be?" At first Trewy and Nemu were confused but when they entered they knew what he meant. The room looked like the rest of the cave. Packed with blankets, small fireplaces, clothes and all kinds of utensils. There was only one bed in the room. Probably the bed of the elder.

"Please. Have a seat." The elder showed them a table in the middle of the room. There were no chairs but cushions were spread around the wooden table on which they sat. Surprisingly, the table was clean. The only place in the cave where nothing was lying. The three rabbitmen who accompanied them also sat down at the table without a word. The eldest seems to be the leader of this village. But the hierarchy seem to be rather shallow. Judging by their behavior, also on the outside, the tribe seems more like a family without fixed positions and ranks. Nemu liked that.

Everyone was now looking at Nemu. And he felt strange. He said it's a long story and it is. With all the changes that happened in the Jura Forest. But where should he start? He had trained for this with Rimuru. He was not an official ambassador but should be able to introduce Tempest. However, the urgent situation made it hard for him. After a sigh, he began to tell. He wanted to summarize the events briefly first without getting distracted by details.

"A few months ago, in the middle of the forest, a town was built. With all kinds of races. The town is called Tempest. The leader of the town is Rimuru." Nemu skipped the part about the slime for now. "The town grew quickly and now there are about 100,000 people living there. There are goblins, lizardmen, ogres, orcs and many more races. A few weeks ago the leader became a Demonlord." He was already expecting to be interrupted here.

"A... demonlord? Really?" The rabbit tribe knew about demonlords. After all, the country they lived in before was led by a demonlord. So they didn’t consider a demon lord as something bad, but it's still scary whenever they hear the word.

"Yes. And he is part of the Octagram. The leader of the beastmen is also a part of it." Not really true, but it makes the situation easier. To mention here that the leader of the Beastmen is just a subordinate of one of the Demonlords from the Octagram would probably have been too much. "However, this group controls many nations in the western empire. And after Rimuru joined them, he got control over the entire Great Jura Forest. It's called the Jura Tempest Federation."

Everyone was shocked. They even periodically looked to Trewy for confirmation and she nodded each time.

"What does that mean for us?" Asked one of the guards. A very smart question.

"It means you are now under the protection of Demonlord Rimuru. However, you don't have to swear loyalty or subordinate yourselves. But that brings us to the second reason I am here. Demonlord Rimuru would like to invite you to Tempest." Nemu explained.

"So, that's why..." The elder said, but stopped talking.

"Yes, I'm sure the humans retreated as soon as they heard about it. It's one thing to mess with a Tribe, but even if there was a big criminal organization behind it, they wouldn't mess with a Demonlord." Nemu concluded.

The rabbit man nodded. But still... They were not convinced. It was quite a lot to take in at once. Besides, Demonlords are not known for their niceness, so why would anyone protect their tribe without getting something in return?

"What about the dryads?" Asked the elder. If there really was a nation formed in the Jura Forest, it wouldn't work without the Dryads. Because they are the protectors of the forest.

"The dryads support Tempest." Said Trewy simply.

"Hmm..." All of the rabbit men were lost in their thoughts.

"Oh, and Veldora also returned." Said Trewy then, Nemu rolled his non-existent eyes. This was perhaps a bit too much at once, and as expected....

The elder took a deep breath, while one of the guards smashed his hands on the table. "What? How is that even possible?"

"He was freed by Rimuru." Said Trewy. Trewy... Only a few people knew about it. Actually, it was classified as a secret. If it wasn't about Veldora who told Nemu and Nemu told the story to Trewy... Wait, did he even mention that she shouldn't tell anyone? What a mess...

"Yes, and he lives in Tempest now." Nemu sighed, he should talk to Trewy about it again later, but it's over now anyway.

A few minutes passed without anyone saying a word. The Rabbitmen just learned a lot. Actually, their whole world has changed. One minute ago they were nervous about the humans, the next they're gone, their tribe is protected by a Demonlord, and they're even supposed to be part of a nation? And on top of that, the legendary Storm Dragon Veldora returned.

"Can we... talk about this again later? That was quite a lot and we need to discuss it amongst ourselves first." Said the elder as he looked to his men who nodded.

"Of course, we would go outside in the meantime. Maybe we can still help." Trewy said.

"Okay and... thank you. It's a relief that we're finally safe again." Said the elder with a forced smile. Still overwhelmed by the situation.

And so, they left the now completely silent room.
