Chapter 117: III Chapter 19 – The last day

The return to Suna was fast and on the last second. Gene entered her room when the sun was about to rise and changed without sleep into her normal clothes. A bit of make-up later, she looked as if she had a pleasant night of restful sleep despite feeling tired. 
She walked to the outside and rolled her shoulders as she greeted Shisui who had done the same as her and Tsukiko who stretched and Itachi who did have the late shift at guarding the diplomats. 

He also looked a bit tired, but at least better than the two of them. 

The talks during the day proceeded and despite trying her best Gene constantly had to combat falling asleep, not only were the talks boring, had been since the first day, partly because they truly were boring, partly because they didn't make much sense to her. But this was the last day here and they were alking about ... what the Shoguns' health had to do with economics between villages...it was not the most exciting topic.  

It was midday when she was surprised by Anuk and her friend Karura again, well less surprised, more assaulted from behind. Gods she didn't notice Anuk approaching at all, instead she released a breath of cold air that should have frozen her but somehow didn't, something that Anuk merely commented with a. "Nah, doesn't work on meez."
That earned her the sharpest look from Itachi whom she merely waved at blew a mocking air kiss, which in turn had the Uchiha almost draw his Kunai. Somehow it seemed that one of their endless fountains of patience and calmness did have something against Anuk, with a sneaky grin she looked at him.

"I have a Fiancée I like very much.", was all the answer she got with a muttered. "One Uchiha falling for one of the crazies in the Bernaude is enough." the latter rose her attention and she jumped him from the back, muttering into his ear. "What do you mean with that?" she asked him, and Itachi merely gave her the look, the one he reserved for occasions when she missed something apparently obvious. "Hey, Itachi!", she growled after him and hurried. "What am I missing, tell me, tell me, tell me?", she inquired and Itachi shot her another of his looks before walking around her. "I value my life.", was all he said. "Figure it out yourself practically the entire Village noticed but you, and Kakashi, he is a good Shinobi but equally dense." 

What the hell does he mean with that now?

Before she could continue bugging Itachi about what she missed, suddenly a siren howled through the village and had every Suna Shinobi jump. 

"We deal with this later, Itachi!", she shouted as they made their way towards the delegation. The diplomats were already huddled together surrounded by their Samurai, with Shisui and Tsukiko standing there weapons risen waiting for something to happen. 

Tsukiko looked at them and whistled, "Gene head to your cousin, ask her what is going on!", she ordered and Gene nodded changing direction while Itachi took his place in the protection ring. She didn't need long to find Anuk who was carrying a bleeding Karura at lighting speed towards the hospital. Joining in, she noticed how Anuk was sheeting in anger when she grabbed a medic as soon as they arrived and showed him Karura. 
In the span of seconds all personal was running someone took Karura from Anuk who was left there fuming. 

"Anuk what happened?", Gene asked her and earned an angry hiss from her cousin who was uncommonly agitated. 

"Traitors.", she spitted out growling. "I believed her in safety surrounded in the Hokage office by hundreds of Shinobi right next door to her husband with three of our own most skilled Shinobi in the room." she cursed up a storm before continuing again. "One of those godforsaken Hijo de ...gods... I shouldn't curse with you close, tried to kill her right as soon as she was out of my immediate vicinity. One of our own, we were all handpicked by the Kazekage to protect his pregnant wife."

"So one of your fellow guards attacked Karura, is that the reason for the alarm." 

"I wish it was, I immediately left towards here, the others are ordered to pursue the traitor, the alarm means they haven't gotten him jet, morons, I have to stay here for Karura, but I suspect that the delegation is the next target." 

"Probably, thanks for the information Anuk."

"When you catch the guy, tell the old G, Tsukiko, that I will take care of the information sourcing." 

"I will."

"Good.", Anuk nodded, and Gene made her way back when she suddenly saw flames rising in the distance. 

The delegation is probably the next target. Anuks words stayed in the back of her mind. Gene sped up, apparently the fools had already attacked, but then they were in for a surprise. 

She took her bow out and readied her arrows, putting on the string ready to draw and fire. Idiots.

So much for another peaceful day, I supposed it was bound to happen at some point. 

Spotting the Attacker she didn't even register what kind of symbol he wore before aiming and letting loose her arrow.
