"I am Anuks sickly cousin for another life, the scientists there invented a tech called nanites but only a selected few people were compatible. One of them being me, by Genetics alone, and my cousin. As I said I was already a lost cause in terms of heath, so I volunteered to be the first person to ever have nanites implanted. It worked just not entirely how planned, later on my cousin got them. A lot of people died afterwards, turned out compatibility needed to be over 85 percent to survive the operation. I only found out a lot later that there were others around with the same tech. So not a Dojutsu simply advanced technology."

The words might have sounded like a hair brained story, but knowing her and their sometimes weird behavior it made sense to Shisui. It could be the truth, it possibly was a fact, and it did frighten him a bit.

What if she wants to return to her old life, if she wants to go back and see her family there, can I still follow her. Or will I be left behind?

Shisui shook his head, it did not really matter, he would find a way to go there as well. Gene continued to drift of, mentally watching the seas spreading out as they approached Kiri.

The nightmares have been getting worse, we have to talk to her about it soon, whatever happened.

The sun was slowly setting when Itachi patted his shoulder. "Shift change, I and Tsukiko are on now, you and Gene can go to sleep." Shisui nodded and ripped her from gazing at the seas, she followed him wordlessly but pouting.

---

It was late at night when Tsukiko came by and sat down, looking at Gene who was toying around and at Shisui who was sitting next to her and reading a book.
"Still having nightmares?" she asked and Shisui nodded. They were getting worse and worse with each kilometer they moved closer to Kiri.

Shisui took her hand and said nothing as she gripped it tightly.

"I will protect her." he muttered, "I won't let her come to any harm."

"She is plenty strong, you know." Tsukiko answered him. "Although I can understand you." she took the book from him and snorted.

"Icha Icha? Seriously?", she looked at him, and he shrugged his shoulders.

"Kakashi gave it to me, he likes the series and I had nothing better with me." he answered her before taking the book back. "At least it is more or less entertaining." next to him, Gene made a sound, and he stilled watching her as she snuggled deeper into the blankets.

"You love her." Tsukiko noted deadpan. "I recognize that look."

"Is that a problem?", Shisui asked her, not removing his gaze. "You have a thing for Kakashi as well."

"I will not even attempt to deny that, but Gene.....she is dense, has no experience with such things...and nothing for the light of nerves, if you are not careful she will simply walk over you."

Shisui grinned at her. "That is what I am aiming for, she has to be strong in the Shinobi world, I am not delusional enough to believe I can protect her from all harms not without imprisoning her, so I try to stand by her side be there and care for her until she notices me." he told his Team leader who shook her head at his words.

"You are a delusive fool, you know." she said. "I believe she is already looking at you, just doesn't know it yet, but in any case I wish you the best of luck, it needs a man with nerves of steel to stand with equal with her."

Shisui internally agreed with Tsukiko, that is why I cannot allow myself to slack off.

He put the book away, made himself comfortable and decided it was time to grab some sleep as well enjoying the feel of the seas beneath them. Tomorrow they would reach Kirigakure, and he was uncertain about how things would play out there.
The Yuki had been obliterated almost completely by the village. Those who survived went into hiding, and he highly doubted there were others like Gene who just walked their way without taking the consequences of her actions into view and openly lived however they liked.

I am not even sure she knows what she put into movement with her decision to revive the Yuki in Konoha, at least not entirely, because it would not be that impossible for other survivors to seek a place there if they exist.
