Gene fell back into her bed at midday. Locked the door and groaned at the feeling of soft feathers underneath her head almost immediately greeting the cushion greeting the sleep it brought with it. The world could go to hell right now for all she cared. Being God knows how long on her feet was no good for a growing 12-year-old body.
Absolutely not.
---
It was already evening when her alarm clock woke her up. Six hours of sleep and Gene still felt like a Zombie, in Ninja outfits, and she moved like one too. Walking into the community Kitchen in slippers her body followed the automatic movements of a coffein addict in pursuit of their drug.
The hot blessing in her hands she sat down and carefully nursed the cup, sip for sip.
"I feel like run over by bison." She muttered to herself while looking into the colors of the fading dusk. The first stars in the sky and the moon already visible.
Now it is time to see if Shikaku-san managed to make some fire under the behinds of the administration. Somehow it is always that Stately Administrative institutions need more time than others for doing their work, even if it is making an Intel list right now. Hopefully it will be of use, I fear this list will be longer than mathusalem, on a sunny day.
Lost in coffee drink driven musing over administration issues and list comparing, she almost didn't notice a tired looking Shisui who dropped into his chair right in front of her, groaning. "Genin Teams."
Gene almost had to laugh, right he was among the Jonin who would be assigned a Genin team this year, and he probably already got whom he will most likely be paired up with.
"Who are the Lucky ones?" She asked and Shiaui groaned again sinking deeper into his chair.
"Tsukiko, Hyuga the younger twin and Itachi."
"Hyuga the younger twin's name is Seiyu, why is it that no one seems to know his name and how come they didn't assign me to you?"
"How should I know, I hoped it would be anyone but Tsukiko, that girl is a total menace." He looked upwards. "No offense against your friend, but she technically holds a rank along Shikaku-san. How am I supposed to be her teacher knowing that?" He looked at her. "How is your Mission, nothing happened up until now, right. I don't want you to be hurt."
"I am a Shinobi Shisui, Shinobi get hurt sometimes. Tonight I will be standing watch on the Village from the second Hokages head while going through a few lists." She explained.
Both Shisui and her groaned at the same time. "You are too young for that." He told her and she looked up at him.
"I'm older than you, technically." She retorted.
"Now you sound like Tsukiko." He got up and flicked against her temple while she pounded at him.
"Yeah, I know to qote you 'don't underestimate me' not that anyone will do that after today." He grinned. "You scared them good."
Gene smiled back, feeling fuzzy inside. "Sure." She jipped with a grin that made her seem comical with her snow-white hair standing in all directions. Shisui waved goodbye while whispering Take care.
I will, she answered him while the door closed. Finishing her coffee and walked to the exit before moving her tired feet to the Hokage office.
With pure habit acting she landed on the orange roof tiles, opened the window and slipped in, maneuvering between the never-ending flood of paperwork to the door and stepping outside heading to the Conference room where she suspected Shikaku-san at this time of the day. The table there was bigger, so he preferred working there.
She opened the door and stepped inside her faint guess being approved by Shikaku-sans presence.
"Night." She greeted him, and he pointed at a stack of paper in front of Tsukiko's chair that was a lot higher than the others, so she was able to reach everywhere.
"Night. Everything you need, I marked down the Names I believe you need to pay special attention to already."
Gene nodded put her papers on the table and started working herself through the lists.

"Why does it seem that these Missions are like Homework, only worse?" She asked Shikaku-san who shrugged his shoulders.
"Most would think otherwise, but usually the higher ranking a Mission, the more important is an abundance of information. Not enough or wrong information can get you killed, so many of these Missions start with a list." He signed something. "It's not talked about a lot at the Academy, but actually, Shinobi are in trouble without information. The Anbu carries out dangerous and cruel missions in protection of the Village but believe it or not eighty percent of their work consists of gathering information."
"Intel rules the battlefield." Gene said mockingly her eye stopping at a familiar name.
Riki Uchiha
Her fingers touched it.
It's like a lifetime in the past. My arrival here, my salvation.
Futile thoughts, Riki, Yui and Hiro were gone. They never returned from Kiri.
Her fingers moved down further and stopped again. "Are you serious?" She asked doubting at what she was reading in the list among the missing whose body was never retrieved or found.
"About what?" Shikaku-san asked.
"Madara Uchiha and Obito Uchiha. The First would be beyond ancient and Obito was confirmed quite death by Kakashi."
"I am, their bodies were never retrieved." Shikaku-san stopped. "It's not impossible. They are Uchiha, I learned to expect the Unexpected from them, and Obito despite his occasional foolishness was talented. Not on the first look but on the second."
"How do you know?"
"He was Team Minato, tighter with Kakashi and ... Rin." The last name was whispered, so silently she almost didn't hear it. But she definitely knew where this was going.
No one ever spoke about how Kakashi came to his villainous reputation, but everyone knew it had something to do with the day Team Minato ended up with two people death.
"I understand." Gene muttered and continued reading Names until late. At some point, Shikaku-san put on the lights for him, but she barely noticed, cracking her neck a few hours later.
"I am finished." She said getting his Attention.
"The names, I have ten, the two leading my List are. Haruka Uchiha, from the branch Family and ... Riki Uchiha. The others have either been confirmed death by being crushed, drowning, ript into pieces, stabbed, flayed, eviscerated, betrayed, shot and so on, are too old, too weak, to small, to big, female and and and."
"Ah, that's a step forward, get yourself some sleep I headed Mikoto-san is doing make up lessons, that woman was a Jo..."
Shikaku-san stared outside, as did Gene, his mouth hanging open before screaming. "FULL ALERT! MOBILIZE!" Cursing after that. "It's far too early. Goddamn it now when I need that crappy kimono wearing brat."
Gene turned to the Window. "Gene!" She heated a shout from behind, she looked back. "Go all out, freeze their asses and screw the consequences."
Gene nodded.
Got it!
