In a small gathering of the 5 Elder Dark Fairies and a few other Fairies, I, the Queen of Dark Fairies, Amriella, was sitting at the topmost position listening to my young-ones' requests and problems.
"Your Highness, the amount of Devils and Demons have considerably decreased in the past 2 weeks. Normally, it would have been good news to us but the sudden rise of other monsters in the forest is creating more problems for us compared to when it was just the Devils that were present," one of the Elder Fairies spoke as she looked at me with genuine worry on her face.
"Can you go a bit more in detail on that one?" I ask her to elaborate her point and tell us exactly what she thinks is going on in the forest.
"Yes, your Highness. If I am not wrong, then something major is about to happen near the forest and it is not only related to us but also to other races living in the forest, like those Beastmen and the other Fairies. Also, given the fact that the corpse of the previous Devil King is also present in the deepest tomb of our forest, I can't help but think that it is something related to that," she says as a troubled expression forms on her face. Her hands rub against each other slowly, showing her usual habit, which represents her restlessness.
I look at her face for a few moments before signing and speaking.
"How do you always end up connecting everything to the previous Devil King? I know you are scared of that Devil because of your family trauma and I have given you everything I can to make you feel safe, but yet here you are speaking the same nonsense over and over. If it wasn't for your sharp and witty brain and its ideas, I would have long killed you."
I speak and a smile blooms on her face. Looking at her smile, I could not help but feel exhausted as this was not the first time I spoke these words and neither do I believe it would be the last time given her and my nature…
'Well, proceed with the normal routine..'
"What do you think we should do about it?" I ask her. Since she is the most fearful Dark Fairy among all of us, she always plans for the absolute best defense for us. Her brain and thinking process is supercomplex as she always thinks of the-
I then see her head fall down from her body with the same calculating expression which she had a few minutes before. Nobody knew what happened….it was too fast to comprehend anything at all. Before my mind could process anything, a voice came from the front.
"Man, how boring she is. How do you even tolerate insects like those?"
A child walked in front of us and spoke with slight annoyance. That child, wearing a slight whitish grey robe, looked unamused by us. He just kept moving forwards slowly, one step at a time. The guards moved forward to stop him, but before they could do so, their heads fell down as well. The only difference was that their souls, which are supposed to be invisible to everyone, were clearly visible. The souls flew from their body into a jar like object tied to that child's waist.
I then see the soul of the dead Elder finally getting out of her body. It was slightly bigger than other souls. It flew in the jar slowly in front of us and we were unable to do anything…
I tried to move...but my body rejected it. It's as if someone else was controlling my body all together...I saw the soul of the scaredy Elder...my best friend whom I have known forever...getting sucked in the jar while I was unable to do anything at all.
That child then looked at me before smiling and beginning to move once again. The other Elders looked like they had lost their senses completely as they fell unconscious. I observe them slowly before looking back at the child in front of me.
"You are going to be my first piece in the upcoming war-game," he spoke and then vanished before another guy came right in front of me. The new guy was an Elf, a very powerful one. He looked at me without any emotions as he started speaking,
"A war is going to take place against the Elves. That child, a God, wants you to participate in the battle against the Elves. You will need to fight and win against them and also make sure to keep the war entertaining enough for that God to witness. If he deems it as boring, not only the Elves, but also the Dark Fairies, will almost cease to exist in this world. If you refuse to comply with his wishes, then also your race will cease to exist. You don't have any options other than participating in the war from this point onwards. There are other roles that the Dark Fairies need to be playing as a puppet, but that's up to you whether you can take it or not. But if the God decides that you need to do it, then you have to. That is all…" he stood there silently before vanishing from there all together.
I stood there for a few minutes processing everything that had happened just now. As a Dark Fairy, I would rather die than to be someone's puppet and play the role of a piece in someone's entertainment, but I was also a Queen and as a Queen, I will always choose the survival of my race over my dignity. But...my Elder...amyyl...just...why?
Tears start to fall down my eyes as I realise that Amyyl is no longer in this world. She died...why?...just because a God deemed her to be useless...a God deemed the most strategic genius of our race as useless and killed her because he did not like her fearful nature?...just..
Rage consumed me, but I controlled it...my mind went blank for a few moments before I hardened my resolve...I will not forget this. Even if he is a God...he will die...maybe not now...but someday I will make sure to take my revenge.. I declared as I prepared for the best possible way to handle this situation.
