5: The Saint Whom I Ignored at School

By Antoinette Vanessa October 8, 2022

“Ever since that incident at the party, quite the number of rumors have been spreading.”

Becky said happily after the work in the student council room had finished.

With an ominous feeling, I asked her.

“What rumors…?”

“Yes, rumors speaking of how Lady Lula shamelessly talked you down.”

“…That’s, certainly… while it may have come off that way, Lady Lula intended to apologize to me.”

“…Lady Daisy, do you honestly think so?”

“…”

Seeing how I was unable to answer, Becky smiled.

“Don’t worry, no one actually believes that Lady Lula was the slightest bit remorseful.”

Ryan, who was listening to our conversation, spoke regretfully.

“Forgive me, I should’ve been by your side the entire time. I never expected that woman to harass you immediately after.”

“…That woman.”

While I was surprised by Ryan’s unexpectedly sharp tongue, Becky continued.

“Lady Daisy, have you ever met the saint at school?”

“No. In fact, I first met her during that party at the royal palace.”

“Her passive-aggressiveness has been renown for a long time, now. That’s just how it is. She acts like she’s trying to be courteous, when in reality, she just wants to use you as a pedestal.”

…A passive-aggressive noble lady who turns others into her pedestals?

…It’s kind of rude to label her such, but—

“—Even in school, she’s no different.”

“How so?”

“First of all, after becoming friends with high-ranking noble ladies, she’d ‘apologize’ to them. However, in reality, she was just trying to appear superior, saying that she was chosen.”

That’s kind of similar to what she did to me during the party…

“I, I didn’t know…”

“Since Lady Daisy has always been busy, it’s only natural that you don’t know.”

“…I wonder if His Highness Freddie knows?”

Ryan was the one who responded to my muttering.

“There’s no way Prince Freddie knows what you didn’t.”

I was surprised by his remarks, but Becky agreed with him.

“Upon awakening her power as the saint, it seems that she had been relentlessly chasing after His Highness Freddie. During that party, she probably couldn’t contain her sense of superiority anymore.”

I felt like I had heard something that I shouldn’t.

Ever since I was chosen as Prince Freddie’s fiancée, I barely had any free time.

Until my enrollment at the academy, I was busy with the queen’s education. I was also responsible for learning foreign languages and business so that I could support Prince Freddie.

Then, after I had entered the academy, even though my queen’s education had settled down a bit, I had to take over Prince Freddie’s duties as a member of the student council.

Even after returning home, I had to constantly study so that I could achieve first place in the school exams.

…Regardless of anything, I should’ve paid more attention to the swirling rumors so that I could have advised His Highness Freddie.

…No, even if I had advised him, I doubted that anything would have change. He’d still fall for her, and the rest was history.

When I remembered the day he annulled our engagement with a smile, I felt excruciating pain.

At that moment, the door to the student council room burst open.

“—Daisy!”

The three of us were shocked by the person who emerged through the door.

It was none other than His Highness Freddie, who was stepping foot in the student council room for the first time in over half a year.

“…Your Highness Freddie, how have you been?”

As the president, Prince Freddie visiting the student council room shouldn’t have been anything unusual. However, I had my doubts.

“…Ever since the recent party, malicious rumors have been circulating about Lula. Due to how heartless they are, Lula is so hurt that she cried. She only intended to apologize to you. Daisy, as much as I loathe the thought, but are you that jealous of Lula to the point of spreading groundless rumors?”

Thus, after the annulment of our engagement, the first thing Prince Freddie directed at me was a baseless accusation.
