Chapter 25 I Didn’t Expect You to Act Like This, Old Xiao
The two women worked together, and soon, a few more dishes and a soup were served.
Everyone took their seats, eager to try Wang Li’s cooking. Once they picked up their chopsticks, those seated at the table reached out to taste Wang Li’s dishes first.
“Dad, quick, try your favorite stir-fried chili meat and see how it tastes. It’s made by Aunty Wang herself,” said Xiao Yun and everyone turned their attention to Xiao He.
“Why are all of you staring at me like that?” asked Xiao He as he picked up a piece of stir-fried chili meat and put it into his mouth.
Xiao He took his time to chew and had yet to make any comments. Lin Feiyang couldn’t hold it in any longer as she anxiously asked, “How is it, Xiao He?”
Wang Li also looked at Xiao He with anticipation.
Xiao He finally put his chopsticks down calmly and said, “Well… it’s very delicious.”
“Oh, you… I was afraid that you would say that it’s not delicious. She would have been so hurt,” said Lin Feiyang as she laughed heartily.
Wang Li felt a little embarrassed. It was obvious from her slightly blushed cheeks.
“Alright, let’s eat,” said Li Ping as she tried to smooth things over.
Soon, the dinner table became lively again and the men started drinking.
“You look younger than me. I can treat you as a younger sister, right?” Li Ping smiled as she chatted with Wang Li.
Wang Li felt a bit embarrassed, but she quickly said, “Yes, of course.”
Wang Li had always been a strong woman, even in her previous life. However, if she was so worried about Xiao He’s opinion of her cooking, it was clear that she really cared about him.
“So, tell me, Sister, how did you and Xiao He meet?” Li Ping did not beat around the bush to ask what she wanted.
And the desire for gossip was clear in her eyes.
When the men heard this topic, they stopped talking. To be honest, Li Ping wasn’t the only one who wanted to know how the two of them met. Even Lin Feiyang, a man, wanted to know.
The gazes at the dining table were all focused on Wang Li, who started to feel a little nervous. She glanced at Xiao He. Since he didn’t say anything, she didn’t hesitate to tell everyone at the table.
She openly told them how the two of them met when Xiao He had helped her on the bus.
After hearing this, everyone turned to Xiao
He.
Even Lin Feiyang couldn’t help but tease him, “Not bad, Old Xiao. I didn’t expect you to put on a heroic act to save a damsel in distress.”
“Ugh, shut up.” Xiao He’s face had turned red as he glared at Lin Feiyang.
“Xiao Yun, what do you think of Aunty Wang?” asked Li Ping to Xiao Yun.
Xiao Yun had only said one sentence, at the beginning of the meal. The rest of it he spent listening to the adults silently.
Xiao Yun swallowed the mouthful of rice in his mouth and said, “I think Aunty Wang is a very good person. Not only are her dishes delicious, but she’s also very beautiful.
“If my dad and Aunty Wang were to get together, I believe say that my dad has struck gold. I think I would have to.” After saying that, Xiao Yun smiled. Then, he picked up another mouthful of Wang Li’s dishes and started eating.
Li Ping asked this question to test Xiao He’s reaction if Xiao He found a stepmother for him.
After all, if this was an ordinary family, the child might make a fuss after hearing about
it.
However, she didn’t expect Xiao Yun to be so calm and seemingly supportive.
Li Ping and Lin Feiyang looked at each other and saw the word ‘promising’ in each other’s eyes.
“Little guy, just eat your food. What do children know?” Xiao He scolded with a smile.
Xiao Yun unwillingly said, “Dad, I’m not young anymore. Besides, shouldn’t you be happy that I’m supporting you on this matter? Why are you so shy?”
“Oh right, I might have to work overtime tomorrow. I’ll have to trouble you to pick up my child after school.” Xiao He’s words were clearly not to Wang Li, but Li Ping.
Just as Li Ping was about to agree, Lin Feiyang’s cough came.
She immediately knew what the cough meant and said, “I don’t think I have much time tomorrow. I wonder if you have time to pick up the child tomorrow?”
“No problem. I have nothing to do recently anyway. I’ll pick up the child, don’t worry,” said Wang Li agreeably. How could Wang Li not understand that Li Ping and Lin Feiyand were giving her another chance?
Xiao He didn’t refuse and only said, “Thank you. Sorry for having to trouble you.” Then, there was no more.
Li Ping waited anxiously for an unfavorable from Wang Li.
But fortunately, Wang Li didn’t mind.
The next day after school, Wang Li arrived at the gate of the kindergarten as promised to pick up Xiao Yun and Lin Xi. She even had two big packs of snacks in her hands.
This time, Wang Li did not go into the kindergarten to pick them up. Instead, she stood at the gate and waited.
When the other children saw the snack packets in Wang Li’s hands, they looked at them with eager eyes.
Soon, Xiao Yun, Chubs, and Lin Xi walked up to Wang Li. When Xiao Yun was introducing Chubs to Wang Li, he was bumped by a male student in his class. The boy did not even apologize but Xiao Yun didn’t care.
When the male student saw that Xiao Yun ignored him, the former felt very dissatisfied.
So he walked to Xiao Yun’s and said loudly, “Hey, aren’t you Xiao Yun? I heard that you killed your mother? Now you are a child without a mother.”
“Wang Zhi, don’t go too far.” Chubs clenched his teeth as he warned the boy.
Wang Zhi then looked at Chubs and said, “Am I wrong? Didn’t you say yesterday that Xiao Yun’s mother had passed away?”
“You…” But Chubs was at a loss for words.
That’s right. This Wang Zhi was the one who watched Xiao Yun and the others leave before talking to Chubs yesterday.
But Chubs had made it clear that Xiao Yun’s mother had passed away because of illness. He didn’t say that Xiao Yun was the cause of her death. Wang Zhi had obviously fluffed up the details himself.
Chubs was afraid Xiao Yun would be upset with him so he was just about to explain himself but Xiao Yun stopped him.
It was obvious that this Wang Zhi was here to sow discord. Xiao Yun would not believe what this boy said, but he could not allow him to be so arrogant.
“Remember these words and don’t let me hear them a second time, or else,” said Xiao Yun as he raised his fist.
And with that one simple sentence from Xiao Yun, Wang Zhi already had an expression of fright on his face.
