Chapter 8: Chapter 08 : Awakening

Mark also wanted to see what kind of classes they would awaken, but no one came forward even after few seconds. 

They all had nervous expressions. Especially his mothers. It seemed, they were still worried that rare classes were wasted upon them. 

'Sigh… Then let's start with mother.' Mark thought, and began to walk towards Melanie.

He stood before her, and asked. "Are you ready, mother?"

Melanie had hesitant expressions… but in the end, she still nodded. 

"Good," Mark smiled, and called upon the holy sword. A beautiful double edge sword appeared in his right hand. 

The sword's handle and cross guard were made up of pure gold. While its blade was silverish. Which was shining brightly even in the dim light of the cave.

Though, it was a long sword, it didn't look too long because of Mark's height. Instead, it looked perfect in his hand. 

The similarities between Mark's golden eyes and the golden cross guard, gave a sense of harmony.

While the contrast between his obsidian black hair and the bright silverish blade, greatly complemented each other. 

For a second, all four of them just looked at him in awe… Mark smirked at their expressions. But because of his innocent face, the smile looked harmless and genuine. Almost… holy.

They came out of their trance only when a golden screen appeared.

Mark had made the notifications public for a few minutes, which made everyone see the screen. He had used the same function when telling them about heroes and the dream, so no one was shocked. 

He agreed inwardly. The holy sword reacted to his agreement, and bathed Melanie in the golden light. 

A new screen appeared.

[Class description : You command all rogues classes... Aura paths for all rogue classes have been awakened.]

Soon, the golden light vanished, and Melanie was still standing there, like before. But something was different.

No one was able to see her. Like, there was a veil obscuring the vision of anyone, who tried to peek at her.

Everyone focused even more, and finally, they were able to see her face clearly. 

Melanie looked different than before. Her black hair looked thicker and silky. While there was shine in her obsidian black eyes. Even her skin looked healthier than pre awakening. 

Though, the difference was not as glaring as it was with Mark. Which made sense.

Since, hero class got major boost in all stats including Charm, while rogue classes were focused more on stealth and agility, and gave only minor boost in charm stat.

"So, how's this class?" Melanie asked him with nervous expressions. 

Mark didn't like how Melanie was still nervous. She was usually playful, mischievous and a master prankster, and Mark liked her that way.

Which didn't mean that he was oblivious of her worries. So he decided to explain the usefulness of her class and kill all her nervousness.

"Mother, do you know what are rogue classes?"

"Assassin," Melanie said hesitantly. 

"There are more. Like scout, hunter, inquisitive," Mark said, "and 'Rogue Queen' allows you to learn and use skills of all of these classes."

He continued. "Do you understand what does that meant?"

Melanie shook her head. She had heard about these names, but wasn't sure about specifics. 

"It means, your class will allow you to become master of daggers, scout for information, set traps, and it will even let you kill someone without their knowledge." Mark let that sink in their heads. "In short, you will be most versatile and deadly rogue... Scratch that, you will be Rogue Queen."

"It is that good?" Melanie wandered for a second. 

"Of course," Mark nodded resolutely, "though, you will have to work extra hard to learn skills of all rogue classes." 

"Don't worry, sweety. I won't let such potential go to waste." Melanie smiled, and gave a kiss on his right cheek. 

Mark felt her soft lips, and couldn't understand what had gotten into her. 

"Thank you," she mumbled quietly in his ear, and backed away. Much to his dismay.

He didn't understand why did she thank him. Was it just out of politeness or was there something more?

...'At least, mother's nervousness is gone,' he thought, and decided to ask about it later.

Everyone else was congratulating Melanie. He let them be for a few seconds, but there was no sign of them stopping any time soon.

His eyes met with Catherine, and both of them rolled their eyes simultaneously. Even such a small thing bought a smile on Mark's and Catherine's faces. 

After a chuckle, Mark motioned her to come, and she began to walk towards him with curious expression. Most likely wandering what did he want. 

When she was near him, Mark put flat side of the holy sword on her head, and she instantly understood what he was doing. 

"Cat, that's the only way to make them stop chatting," Mark muttered quietly, and willed to bestow a class upon Catherine. 

A notification appeared in front of everyone, which made them quiet instantly. 

Mark confirmed again, that he wanted to bestow a class on Catherine, and the next instant, the holy sword showered her in a golden light.

"Woah!!" 

That's all Mark could mutter reading the description of her class. 

The golden light vanished, and new Catherine came in everyone's view. She also got boost in her charm stat. 

Her new obsidian black hair looked thicker and shined brightly. Her pair of crimson eyes were comparable to most beautiful rubies, and her skin had healthy pinkish color.

But, Mark was still caught in his thoughts.

Awakening all mana paths meant, she could learn all spells... expect divine spells.

Because no mortal could learn them, and only gods could bestow them on their followers. 

Even hero class — the best class a mortal could have — didn't allow the awakened to learn the divine spells.

But keeping divine spells aside, Catherine's class destroyed all restrictions a mage class could have. She was truly worthy to be known as Omniscient Mage. 

Mark explained all of these to them, which made them gasp. 

"So hero class awakened both aura and mana paths, while my class awakened all mana paths," Catherine said in a questioning tone. 

When Mark confirmed it again, she nodded with a smile. "It's amazing, how many things we can use this class for." 

Mark wholeheartedly agreed with her. He was already planning what spells would be best for her.
