Chapter 8: CH 7 – Victory!

The fire dissipated, leaving nothing but ashes in its wake. I had done it! I finally proved to myself and everyone that such a blasphemous and useless way of determining our power was truly nothing but a hoax. After shortly celebrating my victory, I was leaving to boast about it to the Supreme One, when...

"Cronus, leaving already? I never thought you were such a coward." a familiar voice said, mockingly.

"Huh...? Who is there? Show yourself!" I demand, scanning my surroundings for the cowardly being who hid as he made the snarky comment.

A shadow emerges from the white floor, the man who I'd thought I killed, slowly ascending out of it. My eyes widened and my mouth was agape, when I quickly regained my composure and took my battle stance. I knew it! How could I have fooled myself into thinking that Alkaezos was such a pushover? Damn it, I thought.

The God was standing there, a wide grin plastered on his face with no trace of having been beat into a pulp and burned alive. Not even his hair was singed! His slightly sweaty and shiny scalp looked as if he just got out of a steaming bath for goodness sake! While I was consumed by my thoughts, he lunged at me, sending a fist straight into my gut.

"Pff-UOOH!"

I grunted as the air in my lungs were knocked out, sending me flying.

"Oi, keep your attention where the action's at," Alkaezos said, gazing disappointedly at me.

"Tsk, just shut up. You took advantage of me."

"Oh did I? Who let you make the first move and still came out unscathed?" he retorted, promptly shutting me up.

I twisted my body in the air, allowing me to safely land on my feet. I can see Alkaezos approaching fast, so I do the same and sprint towards him. 

As we get closer, my fist starts glowing a scarlet red, my opponent's fist also emitting a pale blue. 

Now in melee range, I stomp my left foot and send a left hook with all my effort at his head. Just as it was about to collide with his head, my hand is suddenly stopped in place by a palm, and I notice another fist swiftly advancing to my torso. I put my palm up, ready to block the hit. However, I found that my vision was now lobsided, and my feet swiped. I try to bring my arms closer to my chest to intercept the incoming blow, but it was too late.

"GUHAHUGHH!"

I was sent flying again, but this time, I couldn't move. My body was limp, and my consciousness was fading.... no... how could I lose? I... I trained so much and yet, I couldn't even compare myself to that demonic strength. Why? How am I so weak? I tried desperately looking for answers, to no avail. 

My body hits the ground and my vision instantly goes black.
