Chapter 5: Occlumency and Legilimency

When the evolution of mind magic is mentioned, every single intelligent being of Empiria remembers about 2 people. Alan Badley, natural legilemens and occlumens, spend his entire life researching these two kinds of magic and left more than a hundred valuable books and instruction manuals. His books are still used as basic course material and references by university students. Supreme Guardian found an entirely new route in this field of magic and his mind magic is comparable to the thousands of years legacy of all mind magic masters. The ones who want to be famous for their mind magic use his application of manipulating mana to make illusory structures in their mind. (MC's POV)

My days as a baby started. Life feels too simple. I (pretend to) sleep most of the time and cry whenever I feel hungry or, you know, for excretion purposes. I'm fed 5-6 times a day, by the way. Ms. Harper stays with us and helps Mum to take care of me. Sometimes Dad or Grandpa visits us. The most important news is I have a magic family. They have taken out their wands a few times. They don't use flashy magic at all; just simple telekinesis for summoning items or cleaning the room.

Okay, now. Enough blabbering. Let's get serious. The task is to learn mind magic. First question: what is stopping me from learning it? The answer is I need someone to use legilimency and someone to use it against me to test my occlumency. I cannot directly attack the minds of my parents or Ms. Harper, right? It's too risky. If they have trained occlumency(which I'm sure of), then I'll be exposed. I know that there are natural legilemens, but I'm not gonna take the risk at all.  In case they have no occlumency experience, it may hurt them.

So, yeah. I'm kinda stuck. It doesn't mean I have been slacking off. These days I have been making my detection screen. Are you wondering how on earth would I know about that? Yeah, it's not written in the official series. But we, the true fans of Harry Potter have another weapon if we ever come to the HP universe(which, I did). And it's called FANFICTION! If you are looking for good fanfiction, I recommend  "HP: Magical Journey". It has yet to be finished when I died. *Cough* Begone evil memories! I'm fit and alive now!

In short, from that book, I have learned many things about mind arts. So, for the basics, my knowledge is enough. I have already finished my detection screen which can alert me whenever I am attacked by a legilemens. However, my mood is not increased at all. If you can do nothing when you're attacked, why would you need a burglar system?

That's why I have been trying to build my occlumency shields. The problem is, that I cannot find its faults on my own. If someone were to feint attacks on the shield, I could find the weak spots easily and repair them. But I cannot ask my family members to use legilimency, so that I can build my shields, right? It's alright if I am a genius, but being a monster is not allowed.

I have been pondering over this issue for days already, but I'm yet to find any solution. What can I do?

As I am contemplating, Ms. Harper is pouring tea for Mum. I think it has some kind of tonic in it. I can guess from the smell...

My eyes fell on the cup and a bulb lit up in my brain! Evrika! I have found the solution I needed!

What if I design my shield like a ball of water? I'll just put the mana in from one spot and it can flow around to block all the defects. There will be no need for checking too. And as the amount of mana increases, it will be more hard proof. It can even push the attack out instead of passively blocking it, like water pushing everything that enters it.

Okay, it's decided then. Let's build the most resilient and unique shield ever!

After this little incident, I started building my shield. It's a little troublesome, actually. I wanted to use my intent on mana and make it like water. Using the intent to command mana proved to be a little troublesome though. My ability to command mana is not strong enough, so it gained the fluidity of water, but didn't flow like a ball. Instead, it flowed down. I guess I need some kind of skill that allows me to command mana at will.

I have been using mana manipulation more often as my mana pool is bigger. So I gained 3 levels, and now my mana can move with a +16% speed. Maybe, if it reaches higher levels, this skill can gain new effect? I mean, it's called 'Manipulation', right?

"Your child is so quiet, Adeline. Logan was a crybaby, I think this boy got his character from you." Ms. Harper said while resting in the recliner chair; a teapot and a cup hovering beside her.

"Don't badmouth him, Ms. Harper. His character is also quite good. It won't be a problem if our son is like him." Adeline answered.

She is in front of the mirror, combing her hair. Occasionally, she can't help but peek at her cute baby son who is sleeping soundly in the crib after a session of squeezing ch...

*Cough, cough* Why the hell this perverted MC is corrupting an innocent and pure Third person? Judge, I want to sue him for this unholy act of his!

"Okay, I have no intention to be the third wheel between you and your dense husband. Have you decided on a name yet?"

"Not yet. Logan said Father wants to give a name for 'the genius who will only be born in thousand years and the one who starts revival of our noble family', so we're still waiting for his decision."

Saying so, Adeline giggled. Seeing the dignified old man, who keeps his calm even in the face of death, pacing up and down, looking over ancient books just to name a child seemed really amusing.

                                                              ****

"Dad, did you also sense it? There seems to be some magical power in him." Logan said with a bit worried tone. 'How can this brat be this worrisome? Before being born, he was too active instead of just lying there. And now there is even magical power in him! I'm gonna beat him up after he is a bit older. Just you wait! I will ...'

Slap!

"Are you a fool? Why are you angry instead of happy? If he has magical power in him, it means he'll be a great wizard. You don't have to worry about it! I have found him a good name."

Still dissatisfied, but now calm Logan asked: "What's it?"

"It is ...."
