Reincarnation As A Swordsman Comeback :1

“James, now! Run!”

Both Violet and Ralph screamed as they courageously rushed into the endless waves of beasts, they appeared to be war gods in such a state, unable to be deterred by the sheer numbers they faced, they were gambling to allow me to escape with Sydney.

I only had this one opening, if I failed to get Sydney out here alive, then I wouldn’t be able to face them in the afterlife.

I ran towards the sweating Sydney, grabbing her by surprise, I put her hastily on my shoulder before running through the opening Ralph and Sydney had paved with their lives.

“James! What are you doing!? We have to go back! Why are you leaving them!? we can still fight! Let go of me!” Sydney’s complex changed as he angrily shook trying to escape my grasp she wiggled and hit me violently, yet I continued to clutch her tight, if she were to run off now, Ralph and Violet’s sacrifice would be for naught!

“James!” she continued to plead, she begged as tears were flowing down her face, however, I ignored her, my expression cold, how could I want to do this? How could she not understand that I never wanted this? My eyes flashed with anger, however, that quickly dissipated, she was completely right, I was being a coward and was only thinking of myself at the moment.

The burden of shouldering her hate was more than fair, she could hate me for the rest of her life, and I would gladly accept it, nonetheless, even if she begged, I wouldn’t let go of her. How could I? I was confident in escaping on my own, but not fighting against the thousands of beasts trying to tear us apart, even with the five of us, it was a useless dream, we would only die in the end…

But, if I could save one more person, I could live with myself…

James continued to ignore Sydney’s pleas, even though she was ripping his skin off with her nails trying to escape his grasp, James would not let her! His firm grip and will couldn’t waver, he was almost out.

His next action caused many regrets and would continue to haunt him until his final breath.

I turned around, trying to see a glimmer of hope, yet…

Both Violet and Ralph were on their knees, their blood converging into a small pool, however, there were no hints of regret, they could see James as he turned his head around.

“Thank you.” They both screamed, however, they were certain he wasn’t able to hear them, the mass sound of the ferocious beasts sucked up the atmosphere, not allowing a single sound to reach James’s ear.

Nonetheless, he could clearly understand what they were saying, the sentiment was there.

“Noooooo!” Sydney screamed as she covered her eyes.

The figures of Violet and Ralph were being ripped apart viciously.

I couldn’t bear to look, and I quickly turned my head back, I need to get out!

I could hear the ferocious noises coming from the beasts, they were right on my ass, It was as if they could latch on to and kill me and Sydney at any moment.

James was sweating, he was so close, he was nearly there, the daylight could be seen from the outside, just a few more meters!

“Ahhhhh” A tiger-like beast ripped a chunk of my stomach out causing me to fall and drop Sydney, I continued to tumble down and down hitting lumps of rocks and dirt, pain engulfed my entire body, how far was I going to go?

*Crash*

I finally stopped rolling and took a breather, However, my mind clicked once more.

“Sydney!” I shouted out, we were now outside of the forest, I quickly turned to my surprise.

The beasts didn’t dare to leave. Why was this? I wanted to know, but there were other things more important.

I continued to look around, and finally, I saw Sydney, however, she was unconscious! I checked her body for any wounds before sighing in relief, she was only unconscious due to experiencing something horrific, she hadn’t been physically hit.

However, the same couldn’t be said for me.

Suddenly I remembered.

“Ahhhrgh.” Blood was gushing out of my stomach, and a huge hole could be seen.

It hurt like a bitch.

I wrapped some cloth over my stomach to stop the bleeding and carefully got Sydney on my back.

“Nrgh” I grunted in pain, I was still losing blood quickly.

We needed to get out of here as fast as possible, I had many things to contemplate, yet I needed to get Sydney to safety.

Violet and Ralph’s images once again flashed through my mind, causing tears to slowly flow out.

Once again, I had caused the death of my friends… all to do with the podium and Gem…

This was all connected to that mysterious man! I glared coldly before continuing to slowly walk back to Greensburry, it took me until night, and the sounds and images continued to haunt me throughout the long and painful journey back.

I pushed the doors open to the Inn and called out for help. “I need a doctor, please! I threw my remaining pouch of money onto the wooden table.

The festive and cheerful mood suddenly stopped and all eyes were locked on me and Sydney.

Many looked at us in horror.

“I’m a doctor.” Some old respectful-looking man stood up and rushed forward, disregarding the money, and went straight to check Sydney.

“The young girl will be fine, but, You! never mind her, let me check your wound!” she quickly shoved me onto a nearby chair and took my make-shift bandage off.

Wasn’t this old geezer a doctor? I didn’t know if I should laugh or cry, how could he push me onto the chair like that? I groaned in pain while I let him examine me.

“You’re lucky you’re alive! Without this makeshift bandage, you would be long dead due to blood loss!” he gravely said before patting me on the shoulder. “Boy just stay here, ill nip to my clinic and get some stuff to heal your wounds, just don’t move, and forget about the money, it’s on the house!” the old man smiled before quickly leaving.

Just who was he? Such a kind old geezer, truly a man to be respected, I kept to his advice and sat still.

Before long, Sydney opened her eyes, she was still in a daze as she prompted herself up, however, after locking her eyes on me, her expression turned cold and she glared at me.

She didn’t speak a word, it was as If she was looking at the one who had killed her family…

However, that was pretty much the case… I lamented.

My heart pained, I knew this would be her reaction, how could it not? In her eyes, I grabbed her and ran, leaving behind her two closest friends.

I hadn’t told her that this was their idea, and I wouldn’t, it’s fine if she hated me for the rest of the time she was alive.

After a while of her looking at me in disdain, she wobbly got up and was assisted up to her room by one of the Innkeepers.

I sighed, my heart ached, and my mind wanted to explode due to the pain, I had so many answers accumulated, yet no time or knowledge to answer them.

While lost in thought, the respectful old doctor came back with a sack of equipment…
