Two men can be seen atop a large tree in the forest of Lunois. Both men are dressed like adventurers, but there is neither enthusiasm for hunting some kind of demon nor a sense of impatience, as if they are lost. They just have an air of aloofness about them.
"How are you doing?"
"I'm completely caught off guard. It's as if we've already won.
It's reassuring to hear you say that.
It was Linos and Knogen who were having a leisurely conversation in the tree tops.
Knogen returns the clairvoyant mirror to Rinos and looks at the sky with his arms crossed. Then he slowly looked at the castle of King Juka in the distance.
"Still, it is better to be careful before we know the identity of the enemy," he said.
"I'll leave it to you."
The two slinked down the tree and disappeared.
Habilak yawned and looked up at the sky. It's a beautiful day. The wind was getting warmer. Spring will be here soon..." he thought. He was guarding the north gate of the capital of the Kingdom of Juka.
He was the only one guarding the gate. There is another soldier in the guard station, but he is taking a rest. There are only two men guarding the gates of the capital. With this number of guards, they could be breached in an instant if the enemy attacked, but there is no need to worry about that. The possibility of an invasion from the north is absolutely nil. The only thing we have to worry about is whether or not demons will appear from the forest spreading out in front of us. If demons appear, we can close the gates. Then the demons will not be able to enter the capital. It was a simple and easy job.
We took part in the battle when they invaded the capital, but since then we have been sent to the north gate just to kill time. It is an easy job, but I have no time. Is there anything exciting going on? I've been selected for the elite squad. I'm confident in my swordsmanship. I'd like to try my hand with it. And I wish I could use magic and fly... Habilak's body floats as he thinks about this.
I get a strange feeling. The scenery in front of me passes in slow motion. What's that? You see the ground down there? Are you flying...?
Just as he thought this, Habilak's consciousness was interrupted.
"I knew it. It has the same structure as plate armor.
"So it resists magic, but allows physical attacks to pass through."
"The sword is ... normal. I guess I put too much emphasis on the armor."
Knogen's men chat amicably as they peel armor off Lamaron's soldiers. Knogen is carefully checking the steel threads that May has made.
"Well, it's wonderful. It's as thin and light as fishing line, but it can pull up a soldier of that weight without a scratch. That's what I'm talking about, Master Mei.
"No, I think your fishing skills are more impressive."
Knogen threw a steel line from the forest, wrapped it around the gatekeeper's neck, and pulled it with tremendous force. The soldier flew to us like a flying puppet. The soldier fell head first to the ground, already dead.
"Oh, there's another one! Let's go fishing."
When he could not see his comrades, another soldier came out from the gate. As he looks around suspiciously, a steel line of kunogen is released from the forest. As before, the soldier flew toward us with his helmet under his arm. He slammed his head against a tree and died on the spot.
"That's it!"
Quickly stripping the armor from the corpse, Knogen and his men put it on.
"It fits."
"Well, it looks like these two are the only ones at the north gate."
"It's more of a monkey than I thought."
Knogen turns around and gives orders to his men.
"Hey, boys, I think we're going to have a pretty easy job this time. Let's take a break until we get some action.
I take out a cooking set from the infinite storage.
"Hey, Ferris, Ruara, help me make lunch for Knogen and the others."
"What? Won't they smell it or something?"
That's the time. Gon, you're back inside the castle.
"Yes, sir. That was the plan all along.
Then we'll try to break in at the gate.
Be careful.
"It's exciting, like playing explorer. It's like being a kid again.
Although his whole body is covered with armor and his facial expression is not visible, I can tell by his gestures that Knogen has a big smile on his face.
"I'm not going to say anything to you. But first, you need to eat."
We boil pasta, fry croquettes, and make salads for 300 soldiers.
"... No. Not a single person."
"I didn't see any sign of people in the east area. It is probably uninhabited.
"I looked at the west area, but the farmland was deserted. The commercial district seems to be inhabited. Would you like to explore more?
No, let's wait for the enemy to move.
"I can explore on my own without any problem...? My armor hides my face."
"No, sometimes in battle it is necessary to stay still."
"...Indeed, you are right. Then, let us wait and see how the enemy reacts.
It was not until nightfall that the soldiers of King's Landing made their move. 5 of them were caught by my presence detection. They seemed to be heading for the north gate on horseback.
After a while, soldiers in jet-black armor appeared outside the gate. Seeing them, Knogen and his men slowly stand up in their armor and walk out of the forest toward them.
What were you doing in the forest? We're not slacking off!"
"You guys don't come back, and everybody's pissed off. You're really getting on our nerves, you know that?
"Hm? What's back there? Adventurers? You've been holding these guys..."
In an instant, five men are downed. The daggers held by Knogen's men had pierced the soldiers' vital points with precision.
The soldiers are stripped of their armor on the spot. And then the Knogens come back to us with their armor.
They're moving slow, these guys. They must be bored.
We were talking about such things, and we were enjoying our dinner in a friendly atmosphere. Just then, Gon came home.
"The enemy is concentrating on the west gate. The western part of the city is occupied. And the enemy headquarters is located at the south gate, where the Royal Army headquarters used to be.
"Well, Gong, thank you very much."
As I was listening to the report, I sensed another 30 or so cavalrymen heading for the north gate. As before, they too were preyed upon by Knogen and his men.
"...Whoa! Now they're all coming together, about 100 of them.
"All right, this time we'll all go. Good grief, how good you guys look!"
These 100 riders, too, were reduced to rust by the blades of the Knogens, who put up little resistance.
"All right, strip them of their armor and put them on. I'll leave it to you to choose the best men.
I order the Knogens to move back to the house. I'm going to tell Rico and the others that I'm not coming home today." I could tell them with a "thought," but I want to see Rico's face if possible. It was a bit of a stretch for me to move.
Welcome home.
I'm home. Rico, we're going into battle. I won't be back tonight.
Please don't be too hard on yourself.
"I know. I know. Don't worry. I'll be back when I have time. If there's an emergency, call me with your thoughts.
"Yes, sir."
Seeing everyone in good spirits, I feel at home. He then leaves the dining room and heads for the transition zone.
"Linos!"
I turned around and saw Rico.
"What's wrong, Rico... ugh..."
Slowly Rico's lips parted.
"Have a good day."
I'm off."
This has made me more determined to make the mission a success at any cost.
"All right, then, it's time for them to go to work.
When I returned to the site, I headed for the faerie dragons that were waiting behind me.
The faerie dragons disappeared from the wards in an instant. About five minutes later, the faerie dragons all returned unharmed.
<
I'm heading back to Knogen and the others.
"Okay, is the armor on? All hands, let's move out! We'll have it all done by morning!"
