Principality of Niza. Located in the northwest of the Heedata Empire, it has been ruled by dwarves for generations. Although it is surrounded by forests and mountains, the weapons and armor made from the ores produced in the mountains are of the highest quality, and the wealth generated from the trade sustains the country.
The ores produced from the mountains of the Principality of Niza are diverse. The Duchy of Niza possesses, above all, mountains that produce mithril ore in abundance, as well as gold, silver, and copper mines. For this reason, this country possesses the world's only technology to produce orichalcone.
The fact that this country is in danger of extinction means that its supply of the best weapons and armor will be depleted, and the impact and influence on the world will be tremendous. This is an event that the Heedata Empire, which has been allied with this country for hundreds of years, cannot ignore.
Before I left for this country, I made very careful preparations. This is because there is starvation in the principality. I gathered most of the food harvested in Krumfal territory and had it bought by the Empire. Then I decided to deliver the food as relief supplies. The crops will not be harvested immediately after the farmland is restored to its original state. They would need food to last at least a year.
And so we put them in the endless storage and set out. At first, I was going to go with Gon, Ferris, and Ilimo, but Mei and Ruara insisted on going.
In May's case, her father was a Dwarf and his birthplace was Niza, and she wanted to see her father's homeland and learn Dwarf skills. As for May, I decided to bring her to Niza as soon as I arrived there and set up the transfer warding. As for Ruara, I allowed her to accompany me. I decided that if we were to have a battle with a large number of deer, Ferris and I would not be able to handle it alone, and that we would need another person who could attack. Ruara decided to go to Niza while raising her level by having her hunt demons in the forest.
First, we entered the forest on the west side of the house and headed northwest to Niza. There is a big valley in between, which is impossible for ordinary people to cross, but we have Ilimo. If we fly on her wings, we should have no problem.
In fact, the journey to the valley was uneventful. The harpies led by Jeneha usually destroy the demons of the forest, and the picnic was a delightful and totally relaxing experience.
When we arrived at the valley, Gon and I got on Ilimo and Ruara was carried by Ferris and we jumped up into the sky. We crossed the valley. On the way, a flock of large chicken-like birds attacked us, but we fought them all off, and they are now in the infinite storage. They are said to be "Scary Birds" and hunt their prey by coordinated attacks, but they are a far cry from the harpies and are not our enemy at all.
Once we crossed the valley, the situation changed drastically. A plant called "leak feather" was growing wild here and there. It has small white flowers, but its stems and leaves are covered with tiny needles that paralyze you if you touch them. It is also called "a trap in the forest" and is said to be a plant that makes adventurers cry.
Basically, I am resistant to paralysis, and it is unlikely that others will be paralyzed by the plant, but I keep my wards up and keep going. After a while, to my delight, there was a herd of Casuarina charolais. Needless to say, I was overjoyed and hunted them all down.
Three days after our departure, we finally left the forest. There was a vast expanse of cultivated land.
"Wow, this is terrible!
"It's true. I didn't expect it to be this bad..."
"Ugh, that's awful."
In front of us was the sight of a large number of deer devouring crops. Hundreds of deer were eating crops all over the area.
"Ah! You can't do that!"
"Stop it!
When I turned my head to look in the direction of the screams, I found that deer had entered a field surrounded by a high wall and were eating the seedlings of a crop that had sprouted in the field. Around the fence, a family of dwarves is screaming. The man and the woman are small and look like junior high school students. And an even smaller girl, probably their daughter, is running around the fence, screaming.
"Don't eat it! Don't eat it!
I'll never forgive you!"
A junior high school student who appears to be the father tries to get inside the fence with an axe in his hand. Then an adult dwarf appears from somewhere and strangles the axe-wielding dwarf with his wings.
Don't stop! God sent me!"
"What god? You're devouring our crops!"
"In this country, killing a deer is a capital offense! Stop it!"
I don't care! If they devour the crops that have just sprouted, we will have no choice but to die! I'd rather be killed than starve to death!"
Shaking off the man who had strangled him, the middle-school dwarf stepped inside the fence and swung his axe at the deer's back. The deer, suddenly struck in the back, jumps back in surprise and stares at the middle-school dwarf.
After a while, the deer leaps out of the fence with an amazing leap. It stares at the dwarves again and disappears into thin air.
"Gamich, what have you done?
"I don't care! If we don't do this, they'll attack us again!"
"Gamhi..."
Middle-school Dwarves were crying. I took the lunch boxes I had made for the relief supplies and some of Krumfal's harvest from the endless storage and went to the crying family.
"Please eat it, if you like."
! You are! ...adventurer? You can't take that kind of charity..."
"No problem. I'm sorry I'm such a poor choice. By the way, are you sure you're in the Principality of Niza?
"... Oh, yes. The Principality of Niza. But you're unlucky. There is no food in this country now. So even if you stay at the inn you will not be fed.
"I heard rumors. We'll be fine. We have food. Excuse me, we want to go to the palace. Which direction should we go?
"Oh, well then, if you go straight down this road, you'll soon see a large town. Then you will find the royal palace.
"Thank you very much. In that case, would you be so kind as to accept this food as a thank you for showing me the way?
The dwarf called Gamhi took the food from us, thanked us and immediately went inside the house.
"Thank you very much. I don't know how to thank you.
"Don't worry about it.
"Are you an adventurer, big brother? Then get rid of those deer."
"Janis, don't say such things!"
Is the deer damage that serious?"
He told me that the deer started to appear in large numbers two years ago. Since then, they have been appearing in the village and devouring the crops. The Principality of Niza is a small country. It is a mountainous country and can only produce a minimum amount of food for its people to live a self-sufficient life. And then the deer strike. The damage to the country was immeasurable.
The first year, the country managed to survive by releasing its stockpile of food, but when the situation was the same in the second year, there was nothing to be done. Even though they are receiving food aid from other countries, they cannot gather enough food to feed the entire population. Even so, they managed to get a small amount of food rations this winter, but for the past two weeks that has stopped. It was against this background that the Dwarf King requested emergency assistance from Heedata.
We gave the father and his son more food for about a week, and we headed for the royal palace. On the way to the palace, we encountered many times a large number of deer devouring the crops.
I wonder how many deer there are out there.
"I don't know, sir. It's a relief at least that people haven't been attacked..."
"But if all the crops are eaten up..."
"It is conceivable that they could attack humans..."
We have to stop it before it happens."
Soon we entered the town and arrived at the royal palace. In the town, smoke was rising from everywhere. Probably the workshops of the dwarves. There are stores selling weapons, armor, etc., with various signs, but most of them are closed.
When I arrived at the palace and told them my name, the guards jumped for joy and most of the soldiers in the castle welcomed me. I was then shown into a large room. The room was apparently used by the royal family, and the furnishings were truly magnificent. Before I have time to relax, the Prime Minister, Yury, enters the room.
"Thank you for your early arrival. We have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the marquis. The King will meet the Marquis early tomorrow morning. Please make yourself at home today.
"Um... I brought you some food as relief supplies from Heedata..."
"What! That would be great! I would like to receive it as soon as possible."
Well, it's a bit cramped in here.
Okay. This way, please.
We are taken to a very large basement. It is a dimly lit, eerie room.
This is the room where they used to store food. As you can see, we have no food in our country. We would be most grateful if you could help us with food.
I take out a large amount of food from the endless storage. At first the Prime Minister rolls his eyes, but his face soon turns into a big smile.
"With this much food, we should be able to eat for several months. Marquis Bertham, I am truly, truly grateful.
The Prime Minister shakes my hand firmly. Then he calls his soldiers and orders them to organize the large amount of food.
"Tonight, we will entertain you with food from the Duchy of Niza, so please enjoy it to the fullest.
Night falls and food is brought to our room. As this is a mountainous country, most of the dishes are vegetables. We eat the dishes served to us anyway.
"...Subtle, isn't it?
"What is this taste?
"It's not good."
"It's not good..."
One bite is enough. The bitterness and harshness of the vegetables were not removed. Maybe the vegetables were not prepared at all.
We immediately set up a transitional ward and returned to Heedata's mansion. We left Ferris in his room. Ferris was the only one who had the telepathic skill to let me know when someone was coming.
We enjoyed our dinner, admiring the food that Rico and Peris cooked. Ferris prepared a special lunch for me and Irimo brought a lot of carrots from Krumfal back to his room at the palace of Niza.
I told Rico that I might stay at the palace for a while. Rico agreed in his usual manner, but I am sure he was not at ease. I hope things will be settled soon so that I can be with Rico.
I take some carrots to Ilimo who is outside in the stable.
"Thank you so much! The food here is not so good.
Maybe the Dwarves' palate is quite different from ours.
The room we were given, besides the reception room, had three bedrooms, each with two high quality beds. Apparently, one of them is for royalty, and the rest are waiting rooms for guards and maids of honor. I am given the largest bedroom, and Ferris and Lenore seem to sleep in their own rooms. Gon is sitting on the sofa in the reception room.
I look next door and see an empty bed. I go to sleep, wishing I could bring Rico or Mei to bed with me at least at night.
