Picked up an Adolescent (2)

“What are you doing!” The boy yelled anxiously.

Anna chuckled: “It’s hard for weaklings like me to serve a big shot like you, so I’m seeing off the guests.”

Anna opened the door, but the boy hooked the door frame with his feet and shouted in a low voice: “Okay, I apologize! Don’t throw me out!”

Anna paused. She dragged him back and closed the door.

She did not untie the rope on him; instead, she dropped him to the ground fairly casually, sat cross-legged in front of him, and began her interrogation.

“Name.”

“Abel!”

“Age.”

“Don’t remember!”

“Profession.”

“What?”

“How do you make a living?”

“Don’t have one!”

“Oh, beggar.”

“”I am not a beggar!”

“Then you’re a tramp.”

“I’m not a tramp, either!”

“Then a beggar. The reason for your injury.”

“…”

“Stolen something was beaten?”

“Who stole? Don’t talk nonsense!”

“If you don’t want me to talk nonsense, then tell me the truth.”

“…”

“Peeking up the bottom of a little girl’s skirt and was beaten by an angry parent? Coveting a child’s lollipop and was beaten by a righteous passerby? Or…”

“Shut up!”

Anna was taking notes with a serious heart, while going back and forth between angering and comforting him, she managed to get an answer to pretty much everything she wanted to know.

The young man’s name was Abel. According to him, he was inexplicably chased by two mages and was severely injured to become what he was now. He was very repulsive of the identity of the fallen mage and refused to admit it, but when Anna asked, he admitted that he could only cast dark spells, but now that he was injured, he couldn’t cast any. He had no relatives nor teachers; he learned magic by himself.

Anna felt that the authenticity of this young man’s words was open to question. From the very beginning when he woke up, she felt that he was not a very honest person.

“Now can you let me go!” Abel said, dissatisfied.

Anna shook her head: “No. I think you’re still hiding things from me, it’s too dangerous to let you go.”

However, if she threw him out directly, the dark lines on his face that weren’t going away anytime soon were too obvious. He would be turned into the church by a pious commoner before he could even walk a block. Although she had never been to church before, in the communication between her family members and in her own memory, the priests of the church always promoted the doctrine and highlighted the goddess’s kindness by belittling fallen mages and exaggerating how dangerous they were. In the long run, civilians were of course the Vatican’s best scouts.

Throwing him out onto the streets was like killing him with her own hands, while letting him stay with her made her feel uneasy. Anna was caught in a dilemma.

Abel glared at Anna, snarling like a vicious little beast: “Then what do you want! You can’t keep me tied up! I can’t do anything to you now, what are you afraid of!”

Anna looked at Abel who had made a threatening speech, and the balance scale in her heart leaned towards throwing him out to the streets.

In the past, she had helped Dubian smoothly and comfortably. Dubian would not let her, who was helping him, put herself in danger, but this young man made her feel that helping him would bring trouble to her own self.

“Hey, did you hear what I said?” Abel saw Anna staring at himself silently, and couldn’t help but narrow his eyes and ask.

Anna was growing impatient with his noisiness, and said casually: “Between being tied up and being thrown out, choose one.”

Abel fell silent. He pursed his lips and snorted: “If you’re so capable, tie me up indefinitely.”

Anna smiled angrily: “I’m not capable. Why should I keep you tied up, what good is it for me? I’ll choose for you. I’m guessing you definitely prefer to be free roaming outside.”

Seeing Anna coming forward to drag him out again, Abel quickly shrank back until he was almost hiding in the corner. He said: “I’m not leaving! You vicious woman, if you throw me out you are committing murder!”

Anna thought it was a miracle that this young man was still alive and not beaten to death yet.

So, did she want to continue this miracle?

Anna sighed slightly, she seemed to have no choice.

Presently, she did not have to worry about burdening her family members. Her tolerance for risks was much higher, and she really couldn’t send people to their deaths by her own hands.

But the attitude still had to be delivered.

Anna squatted in front of the boy and said coldly: “I’ll give you a chance.”

Originally, Abel had shrunk to the side. He stopped when he heard Anna’s words, and his clear eyes fixedly looked over: “What chance?”

“The chance to prove that you won’t cause trouble for me.”

Abel stared at her as if he wanted to curse, but he endured it in the end and whispered: “Then you will let me stay?”

“For the time being.” Anna emphasized, “When the dark lines on your face disappear, I can give you some travel money so you can leave.”

Abel said quickly: “Okay, deal!”

“Don’t agree so fast. I haven’t said the next arrangements yet.” Anna said grumpily, “The next few days, I will keep you tied up until I believe you will not cause me trouble. If you don’t agree, you can leave now.”

“I won’t leave!” Abel said very firmly.

Anna assumed that he had agreed to the premise of being tied up.

“Okay, it’s getting late. I’m going to bed. If you don’t have to eat or need to use the toilet, for my safety, I’m going to change your binding method.”

Anna couldn’t help but yawn. Since transmigrating, she was no longer the night owl she used to be. There was nothing to watch, no drama to follow, no Weibo to scroll through. Nightlife was simply not necessary at all. She had become accustomed to the new schedule of early sleep and early rising.

Mobile phones were indeed the enemy of routine work and rest.
